If The Defense Had Forced A Few More 3 And Outs...

62 posts in this topic

I don't take anything from the interceptions that the D had today. I don't take anything from them holding the Pats to 3 on several occassions. What I DO exception with is the fact that our 'elite' D only made the Pats punt like what 3 times? This is unexceptable. On damn near EVERY possession the Pats put some points on the board. Pags is cool and all that but why in the hell was he NOT disguising the blitzes? Cundiff and Evans were atrocious with the game on the line, but truth be told, they shouldn't have been in the situation to begin with. It's crazy because its not the first time its happened either. The D needs to be revamped also. /end rant.

The defense held Brady and the Patriots to 23 points. They did their job for the most part. Yeah the allowed some underneath stuff and allowed BGE to run on them but these plays burned clock which was I am sure part of the game plan. My primary complaint is that Brady did not get hit enough.

Stop. We held the Pats to 23 points. The D did their job.

I don't think we held them to anything. Brady wasn't as HOT today as he usually is. He missed some easy throws/receivers drop some passes, 2 of which would've been FOR touchdowns. The D got some help and the final score/stats don't tell the whole story.

Nah, the defense played bend but don't break football. They held Brady and all of his so called scary weapons to 23 points. Our defense kept us in the game, and we had a chance to win it. They played their hearts out and I wish they could have been rewarded for their efforts.

Considering the players NE has along their o-line and the players Brady was throwing to, they made a valiant effort. The impact of the two interceptions can't be understated and they forced a punt when it mattered most to give the offense a chance to win the game.

This. The defense did exactly what they intended on doing. Everybody knows Brady will get his scores

So you just give Brady his scores? You miss tackles, ignore run D and do what? Play for the interception? Can't do that every time. Everybody also knows that Brady could throw 5 INTs and STILL throw the ball and possibly score. That's why you take the ball out of his hands.

I don't know if I like this 'bend don't break' mentality anymore, because it ALWAYS bites us in the rear come playoff time. Give me EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink.

Almost the entire team played well today. What it really boils down to is 2 plays - a missed TD catch and a missed fieldgoal. That's the difference between win/overtime and this loss. That's it. It happens, it's football. We can second-guess every single play in this game from now until the end of time, but what matters is in the end, two miscues cost us a trip to the Superbowl.

The Ravens were outplayed on defense a bit. But when push came to shove, they made a play to put their team into a winning position. Joe Flacco did the same.

The weakest part of our team was Special Teams.

What? Brady is arguably the best to ever to play the game. The talent level on that offense is off the charts. The defense forced 3 turnovers and made a critical stop to get the ball back for a chance to win. The team showed tremendous heart that game. I don't think I can justify blaming it on the D

The talent we have on D is off the charts as well. We are supposed to be feared damnit! Bellichek and co really pegged the Ravens D perfectly. He probably thought "they'll be too busy trying to play the pass, and they'll forget about the run." Turns out, he was right. It was Pags DUTY to realize this and adjust accordingly. It didn't happen. Hell, the Steelers dismantled them and I think our defense is better than theirs.

Internet posters kill me with this. If you don't like the post, why read? Or better yet why comment? This is officially the offseason now, what else do you think is going to be discussed besides the 'if ands and buts?' Come on man!

Nothing makes you feel better until next year, so that point is basically moot.

If anything blame the offense. They did turn the ball over and put up 20 points vs. a last ranked defense and wasted the first three possessions. The defense played well by limiting one of the greatest of all time to 23 points and making stops in crunch time.

Its got to stop though

Two years in a row Joe leads the game winning drive (potentially) and both times the pass is dropped

That has to end, guys better work on their hands....Torrey Smith needs to be more consistent

The defense holds an offense that averages over 30 points a game to 23, nabs 2 ints (one right after our offense turns it over), and forces a 3 and out when needed most and we're still complaining. I agree that more pressure on Brady was expected but bottom line Brady had 2 picks and 0 td's. Give the defense a break.
