What Did Yous Honestly Think At The Time?

45 posts in this topic

i know hindsight is great and all, but try and think back to what your gut told your right at the time..

4th and 1, on about their 3/4 yard line, did you want the points, or where you thinkin go for it?

To me, at the time i thought it was the right call, then, when the pats went for it it and brady scored, i thought, that killer instinct wins you a game..

I didnt think it would come down to three points (ie get a TD there and we win) but i still didnt want to risk getting stopped and hand over momentum.

what you all think?

my friend and i were in a sports bar and both of us were saying to go for it because this is the AFCCG. i was disappointed that we didn't but celebrated the FG. Lee dropped the game winning TD and Cundiff missed a FG. it's a game of inches and you have to scrap for everyone of them.

I thought we should have gone for it. 1/2 yard playing against a prolific offense. You have to have the balls to go toe to toe.

i felt worse and worse as the play clock ran down, they were definately rushed and a timeout should of been called by someone.

sorrry not thinking of the right kick, stilled disgusted.

I was thinking we should have gone for it. Worst case we turn over on downs and have a shot at an easy safety and possibly get the ball back anyhow.

I also question the 4 and 6 play. When they decided to go for it I said " good call, they should run a PA rollout to the right". Joe had successfully gained yards on that play when no one was open.

you cant just solely blame cundiff, or evans though, yes thatll be the lasting memory, but what about harbugh not having the "balls" or not calling a TO on the rushed FG, or suggs offside on Carys only INT all year.. i suppose im just trying to take the heat off billy

Do you know what ticked me off almost as bad as Cundiff. Ed Dickson. His false start forced us into 4th and 6 and his dropped probably cost us a field goal at the end of the half, though Cundiff would have likely shanked it.

Take the points. We are terrible at short yardage situations, and Wilfork was beasting the whole game. If I didn't see so many failed attempts this year, then I would have said to go for it.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

On 4th down and and a half yard at the Pats 3 - we kicked a FG.

Harbaugh lost this game for the Ravens. We have a 6'6 QB - and he can't lean forward to get a half yard?

When we kicked a FG - I Said" We will lose the game - due to the typical Harbaugh conservatism".

Even though the 49ers kick a lot of FG's - JIM Harbaugh would have gone for it. JOHN - always goes for the wimpy decision.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME - and with JOHN Harbaugh - we never will.

It was the right call at the time. The game was won with the Lee play. He just let it get popped out of his arms.

After what happened in Houston last game, they made the right call. Lee Evans should've caught that ball and we win, that's all there is to it. But then to miss a chip shot field goal to tie it and go into overtime. I don't know what to say. I don't want to see Lee Evans or BIlly worthless Cundiff playing for the ravens ever again.

I liked going for it. I did not like running over center AT WOLFOLK!.If I wanted to bugger the play I would do that. The idea in football is to find mismatches - not to run your smallest back directly at the other teams HUGE All Pro load on a day the line was not blocking well at all.

Points are essential in the playoffs. I woulda taken the points with cundiff but i would have taken a delay of game and not rushed him on the field. He went on pretty fast, probably trying not to get a delay of game penalty, which I'm sure contributed to his miss. I'm not defending him cuz my friend is the kicker to my high school team and he makes 30 yarders with ease but we should have taken it a little slower.

The way Flacco was playing, I liked the decision to go for it. It was just unfortunate that the pressure got there so fast.

Honestly I was a little pissed we did not either run on third down to pick up the first, or that Joe did not try and pick it up. If we had first and goal with 15 seconds left, we could have taken one or two shots at a touch down.

You're right hindsight is 20/20. I cannot disagree with the call even still. That is a hard situation, get the FG and you are criticized, convert and you're golden, don't convert and you are crucified. Only one possible outcome of that would have went over well with the fans, okay 2 if the last kick was made. If we took it to OT and won then it would have been a brilliant decision.

At the time I want them to get to the line of scrimmage faster so that we could have 15+ seconds to line up view the defense attempt to put guys in motion. Then determine if run play or call timeout.

At the time it was the right call. In hindsight yeah I would've rather we gone for it. but we have a hell of a time with short yardage conversions sowho knows

I would've gone for it. The probability of winning in OT is 50/50, the probability of completing the pass is 60%. And that's even assuming Cundiff makes the kick and after the kick, our terrible coverage team doesn't put them in FG range. I wanted to see Flacco end it right there.

some of you are confused, im talking about our first FG we went for, we had a 4th and inches clser to one yard form their 2/3 yard line and we kicked a FG

I knew what you were referring to...

I still say we should have gone for it. Worst case they get the ball at the 1/2 yard line with no "real" threat out of the backfield. It would have put us in a good position for a safety and to get the ball back.

Sure we'd have been down another 3 points but in reality who cares if you lose 23-20 or 23-17? I think it would have drastically changed our game had we gotten the TD on that drive.
