I just keep thinking how awesome Joe was.

It wasn't like the offensive line was giving him much hope. How many times did Joe have to move away from the pass rush to make the throw? A ton. How many times did he have the tiniest little pocket to make the throw? A ton. Even when Joe was getting hit, he still was able to chuck the ball downfield and give Torrey a chance. One play he was flushed to the left, on the run, throwing it awkwardly to Pitta to pick up a big first down.

Then it was his time to shine, to win the game. He bullets an awesome throw between two defenders right into Lee's breadbasket. Joe's time to shine! And Evans doesn't secure the ball.

Flacco played a great game, yeah he probably shouldn't have thrown that pass at the end but that is the only pass he had me worried about the whole game, even that interception wasn't awful. Joe outplayed Brady, but Brady's WR outplayed Joe's.

You mean the 3rd and 1 pass to Pitta? I think he threw it for 2 reasons: his pocket collapsed and he scrambled out, but he knew he was caught from behind, and he was NOT making that first down on his feet, he was being dragged to the ground and he made the pass to avoid the sack, plus Pitta was being held like crazy and he figured if he threw the pass, no matter the result the flag would've been thrown and he'd have a good result for making the throw. Honestly, it was a good decision to throw, and the ref should've thrown the flag for illegal contact. The refs also should've reviewed the Evans play. I think an argument could be made that his toe had already grazed the turf before Moore punched the ball out, and it should've been a TD. I don't know for sure because I haven't been able to do a frame by frame analysis of the play, but I've watched it a couple of times and it looks close enough to me that they should have at least REVIEWED IT.

Wow

Skip Bayless is saying Baltimore got robbed and he's loving on the Ravens and Flacco
Of course he's loving on Flacco. He doesn't hate Flacco, in fact I don't think he cares one way or the other about him. He's just a contrarian and Flacco is an easy target. Skip likes to bring him up so he can constantly question guys like Sizzle whether they trust him or not.

Joe was the general last night. He answered any doubters. If Lee Evans just holds on to that ball, there's serious discussion as to whether or not he's entered the club of the truly elite QB today.

But it didn't happen. This is going to be the worst offseason since... well... last year.

Nice thread in the aftermath of disaster Perk.

I'm proud of you too Joe. Heck, I'm proud of the entire offense.

I'm proud of our D too. While that "bend but don't break" stuff gives me heart attacks, how many teams can hold Brady and company to 23 points?

Cundiff. I just don't know what to say man. Sorry, but this isn't your first big miss. And 32 yards? You gotta make those man. I think you might have to move on.

Evans, man, you took 2 steps. Inside 2 mins it should have been reviewed since there are no challenges. What can I say? NFL didn't want us to win and it showed. But we almost beat them anyway didn't we?
I thought i may have been the only one that was thinking that way as well. It is a catch once you have contorl of the ball and take 2 steps. Or in the End Zone if you have control and then someone knocks it out, isn't that an admission that the guy caught the ball..STOP...TOUCHDOWN..

Something else to remember, the media's golden QB of the 2008 draft class, Matt Ryan, still has yet to win a playoff game, Joe's made it to the AFCCG twice!
Lol I was looking at the Falcons board and they were so happy when we lost, just so it wouldn't reflect badly on their golden child. They're still convinced Ryan is head and shoulders above Flacco. I'm glad the rest of thr country is finally giving Flacco respect.

Hahahahahahahaha. Yep, I'll take the guy who wins over the noodle-armed checkdown artist anyday. People dog Flacco for poor postseason performances, but Ryan's three games: 2008 was his best, 2 TDs, 2 picks rating 72.8. 2010 1 TD 2 picks rating 69. This year nothing, rating 71.1. So in 3 games he has 3 TDs and 4 picks. Joe had 4 TDs and 1 pick this year alone. In Joe's last 2 postseason appearances, in 4 games he has 7 TDs, 2 picks, not including Lee's dropped game winner. Go on Falcons, keep your pro bowl quarterback. I'll keep my playoff winning big-game quarterback.

Yet he'll never go to the media and blame them. Never.

Couldn't resist
Yep, when asked about all the drops in the Browns game, he said "none were on my receivers" when they were. When asked about the o-line play, he said "they're giving me time against the best pass rushers in the NFL". And yet the guy makes a joke and people call him a whiner. Boggles the mind sometimes.

Yes flacco played well but he wasnt playing the steelers or the texans, he was playing against the 32nd ranked defense. Im not trying to be a jerk but why does everyone on this board always so optimistical. We lost the game. We scored 20 points against the worst defense in the nfl. Congrats.

because we all know flacco actually drove down the field in foxboro with 1 minute to go, with the superbowl on the line, and threw a gamewinning td. the only problem was, lee evans couldent hold onto it for one more second. flacco was clutch as anyone ive ever seen

Did you watch the game?

Aside from the first 3 drives, we moved the ball well. Our run game was non-existant since our O-Line looked like a turnstyle.

We were a stripped pass away from having scored 27 points on the road.. in the AFCCG..

It is time for his extension.

Just looking at the numbers for some fun.

REGULAR SEASON STATS:
pats overall #2 offense 32 pts/gm
pats passing #2 offense 318 yrds/gm
pats rushing #20 offense 110 yrds/gm

pats overall #31 defense 21 pts/gm
pats passing #31 defense 294 yrds/gm
pats rushing #17 defense 117 yrds/gm

and

balt overall #15 offense 24 pts/gm
balt passing #19 offense 214 yrds/gm
balt rushing #10 offense 125 yrds/gm

balt overall #3 defense 17 pts/gm
balt passing #4 defense 196 yrds/gm
balt rushing #3 defense 93 yrds/gm

--------------------------------------------
RESULTS OF AFC GAME:
Patriots Passing 239 yrds
Patriots Rushing 97 yrds
Patriots Points 23 points

Baltimore Passing 306 yrds
Baltimore Rushing 116 yrds
Balitmore Points 20 points

Just stats, but look at how they came out.

Baltimore took away
30% of Patriots average passing but Balitmore surrendered 20% MORE yards than usual.
10% of Patriots average running but Baltimore surrendered 5% MORE yards than usual.
30% of Patriots average scoring but Baltimore surrendered 30% MORE points than usual.

Patriots took away
7% of Baltimores average running game but Patriots surrendered 2% LESS yards than usual.
30% of Baltimores average scoring and but patriots surrendered 5% LESS points than usual.

But Patriots gave up
50% more than Baltimores average passing but Patriots surrendered only 4% MORE yards than usual.

What does a bunch of stats and averages show?
Baltimore defense took away 25% of Patriots total offense but could not keep them within the averages that the Baltimore is used to playing against.

Patriots defense gave Baltimore more total offense than it usually gets but held them under or near the average that the Patriots are used to playing against.

In simpler terms:
A #3 ranked defense(baltimore) slowed but could not stop a #2 ranked offense(patriots). Based on rankings and average stats, this seems a predictable outcome.

But

A #31 ranked defense(patriots) contained a #15 ranked offense(baltimore) to their average. Based on rankings and average stats baltimore should have been able to have a bigger game offensively.

My analysis:
The Balt defense and the Pats offense showed up and played at expected levels considering the opposition.
The Pats defense showed up with their average performance but the Balt offense failed to deliver against, statistically, a much weaker unit.

It was a tough game to watch no matter which side of the fence you were on. However, IMHO, Flacco and the Baltimore Offense just did not get it done.

Flacco had a good game against a young and frequently troubled unit.
How would this game have turned out if the Patriots had a middle of the pack defense? How would we be evaluating Flaccos performance if he had to face anything like Baltimores own defense?

Just something to consider before we start patting Joe on the back. The Balt offense has a long way to go if they had to face a top ten defense. Typical superbowl bound teams just don't have 31st ranked defenses. I think Baltimore put on a good show but came up flat on offense where they should have dominated.

That's my two cents.

I wasn't, but let's be honest. If Matt Ryan had acquitted himself well or even done average in that game, it would maybe have been different. But they got this guy Michael Turner. They traded almost 2 drafts worth of picks for Julio Jones so Matt Ryan could have another weapon instead of fixing the o-line or the d-line or the secondary. He's not the GM, but the GM gave him, Matt Ryan, all the tools to succeed. Then he goes in vs. the 29th ranked defense in the NFL and completes less than 60 percent of his passes, scores 0, 0 points. The only points the Falcons got were off an Eli Manning safety. This is Mr. Probowl, Mr. best young quarterback in the NFL. All the time this year we hear about Ryan being an elite quarterback or on the cusp of Elite, while people are telling me Mark Sanchez and Matt Moore and Andy freaking Dalton are better quarterbacks than Joe Flacco. They all went home with nothing - Joe proved to the nation how good he is, he out-dueled a 3 time Superbowl MVP and 2 time league MVP. There should be no comparisons between Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan, IMO. Ryan will always have better stats, but to me he will never be a better quarterback. It's like Trent Dilfer's article - Troy Aikman was the ultimate game manager. That's what Joe will probably be as long as he is in Baltimore with this great defense. But he showed the nation yesterday that not only is he a great quarterback, but he is a leader of men on the field. I have yet to see that from any other quarterback drafted after 2005.
