It's Time To Take The Gloves Off

Ok, now that we know the defense can't play lights out every game and the offense can't run the ball every play, it's time to turn up the heat/focus. If we're going with the people we've got on the field then we treat them like adults. That means:

* Get in Flacco's face when he's making crap decisions. I like Joe. I'm very much a supporter of him for the long term. But the perpetual, "I'm learning and I'm happy to be here" commentary doesn't mean squat when you're lofting the ball up to whoever wants a pick - that's not an NFL level issue - that's an every level issue. They've got to get into Joe's grill and tell him it's time to pick up the pace of everything he does - drop back faster, make your reads faster, aggressively step up into the pocket... They're telling him to just manage the game and take it slow and he is... and it's costing them. Joe's got the talent and will be great. Don't let him get into this habit...

* Cam, buddy, if you run the same 6 plays even I am going to be able to defend your offense well. Hey Rex, you just played Peyton Manning. I thought you ought to know the license plate number since you've got the bumper imprint all over your face.

* Blocking and tackling are your friends. Some "tacklers" put in some junk efforts and ought to be ashamed to occupy the same stadium as Ray Lewis.

I have faith in this team and this staff. You know what? That means I expect more from them. If they lose, fine, but lack of effort is an embarrassment. Lack of preparation and fire are ridiculous. The kid gloves need to come off. It's time to play, win or lose, like you've been doing this for 20 years and you have the opportunity to play a game for millions of dollars.

i can fully agree with you. that the offense cord. needs to change his stupid play calling cuz its not working and that flacco needs some major work, and our defense needs to stop trying to make big hits and just tackle.

Flacco needs some work, but he's much further along than I'd expect at this time of career. That said, he's got to stop floating the ball into places as a last resort. He's shrinking the field and then making things impossible for himself, even with that arm. He's very good, but he's crippling himself with the decision making - but so is Cam with the crap play-calling. He's not protecting Joe, he's killing him.

zhamato , you need to seriously think about what your saying. Flacco is very good? You are delirious. This guy does not make good reads he holds onto the ball entirley to long and he is slow in the pocket. I agree that the OC is not the sharpest or he would not have not been fired after 1 year as the HC with the fish but he is calling plays that allows Flacco to get rid of the ball quickly but your golden boy is to slow . The ball the free saftey picked today was just a bad read . The dig route was wide open and he threw it to the wrong guy. That is not on the coach that is on Flacco. But the staff named flacco the starte for the emainder of the year which is absolutely pure stupidity . If the team loses another 3 games and is 2 and 6 and golden boy throws another 3 picks , shopuld he be on the field? heck no he should not even be teaveling at that point , they shoul;d put him on the PUP list ( Physcially Unable to Perform )

newsflash: he is making rookie mistakes, they all do

BUT, three plays this year are a microcosm of the bigger picture....

The 4th quarter touchdown drive to tie the steelers
The 14 second scramble in the same game
The 38 yd touchdown run in game 1

If you analyze these plays, they show much more about what Flacco is made of than today's performance. The Kid has potential, and I support him.

That explains many of your other posts. You're the guy that infers people aren't thinking if they don't agree with your ideas. How's that philosophy working for your in winning friends and influencing people? Wait, I withdraw the question. I already know the answer... I kinda' chuckled at a few of your other posts, but I see now from whence your worldview comes.

There are many improvements to be made, but hyberbole isn't a lifestyle brother. Flacco will be fine if he mans up and makes an effort to improve his current flaws. Newsflash: He's a rookie.

Let me start before I say anything else by stating that I am a true fan and I still support my team and everyone who is playing for them.
That said, I think you hit all of the nails right on the head, especially about Joe. I understand the perpetual "I'm learning" thing and I support him being on the field to learn as much as he can. But, it's pretty pitiful when your offense only scores 3 points and Flacco looks like he learned very little from the Titans game. I was looking for Smith or Bouman to come in the 4th quarter for some garbage time, especially since according to the coaches, developing Smith is important as well as they have said multiple times. Get Zbikowski and Nakamura and Gooden in there starting in the 4th, get all of your guys experience playing, because we played that whole game with our starters and by the end of the 3rd quarter it seems like everyone had just rolled over, excluding the guys who were finally getting playing time, like Ray Rice.

But whatever, it's all said and done and we move on to Miami. That said, as a fan I expect some changes by next week. I know we're not going to win every game, but that was embarassing yesterday on our entire team's part.

The play calling seemed a bit more interesting the first two games but seems to have become more vanilla lately. We probably assumed we would just run over the Colts and did not know what to do when we couldn't. Making adjustments seems to be a problem for us.
