Moving Forward

There are simple things we can do to be better next week. First, we need to play more physical. The Colts simply manhandled us. They were emotional, they swarmed to the ball, they bullied us around.

If we play more physical, our running game should improve. This will put less pressure on Flacco to produce. Hopefully, the turnovers will go down. Ball security is key since our offense isn't built to score often. As good as our defense is, it is hard to play defense when the opponent is starting past midfield...

Our defense really isn't all it's hyped up to be. Tackling has got to improve. Our secondary is very questionable with the injuries we have.

Just remember Peyton Manning's first year. We are one win away from tying Manning's rookie year wins. Be patient everyone...

What do you think we need to do better for next week?

We need to improve on special teams. Having our rookie QB and our young OL starting from within their own 20 all game is really begining to hurt us. When you are down that close to your own goal line, your playbook is really limited.

I agree that there is way too much blame to go around than to begin pointing fingers at any one aspect of the game or any one person. Our failure is in playing fundamentally sound, well rounded, hard nosed and physical football.

who said that?

i've seen other offenses scoring from their own 10 yard line, i've seen
Mcnaab throw a TD from his won end zone,

it begin with a scoring mentality,
we didnt have it
and have nothing mixed with a good defense

Thats not how our team is built. We didnt have an explosive offense before this season started and we are not going have one right now just because people want it. We play a ball controll- field of position game. We need it to be successful. Other teams dont but we do.

Ok I have been doing alot of thinking lately of how the Ravens can improve and be better for the rest of the year and in the coming years. I have made some interesting observations and theres alot of things that the Ravens can do to improve this team.

1. Trade Todd Heap. Ok, he is a Ravens household name but what has he done all year and last year, just get injured or do nothing but be inconsistent. Trade him for a 3rd or 4th round pick that way we have another draft pick to build for the future. Pick up a good free agent tight end or draft a brand new rookie tight end so we can start over with a new Tight End.

2. Bench Willis McGahee, start Ray Rice. Look like I have said before(In the Ray Rice thread), if the Ravens do make the playoffs we need a healthy McGahee not a McGahee on the IR list. Give Ray Rice the start the next 3-4 games and let Willis rest.

3. Keep Joe Flacco in as starter. There were talks when the Ravens were 2-0 that he was going to turn into the next Ben Roethlisberger but I am now convinced his career is going to take the Eli Manning career path. Both him and Harbough will take alot of heat(like Eli and Coughlin got) and eventually Flacco and John Harbough will lead the Ravens to their 2nd Super Bowl Title.

4. Trade Certain Defensive Players for draft picks so the Ravens can start getting younger. I for one say Samari Rolle needs to be traded along with Corey Ivy(well actually they can release Corey Ivy) Release Corey Ivy and we have more cap room to work with. Trade Rolle for a late 4th round pick, that way we got a 1st, 2nd, possibily either 2 3rd round picks(if they Trade Heap for a 3rd round pick) or 3 4th Round picks(Trade Rolle and Heap to get the extra 2 while we still got our orignal 4th round pick)

5. Focus all 2009 Draft Picks on Offense and some defense. Right now I say pick up a good CB in the Free Agent Market or draft a really tall good CB. The Ravens need to start getting younger on Defense. Ray Lewis only has a few good years left in him, draft his replacement in 2009 Draft or the 2010 Draft. Now for the Offense, Draft a tall speedy WR. Right now we got average WRs. Or like someone has said before go after Roy Williams. But even if they go after Roy Williams they still need a tall Rookie WR to play on offense.(Ravens need to find a Desean Jackson of the 2009 Draft.)

What do all 5 things listed have in common. BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE! That's what the Ravens need to do. That is just my opinion of the Ravens need to do.

2008 Ravens Predicted Finish: 10-6

I think we already drafted Lewis's replacement in Tvares Gooden. He's going to develop into a great Linebacker. I agree, we need to get rid of some of our aging secondary players (i.e. Rolle). We need to draft some quality corners and maybe even another tight end.
