Very good read. Was nice to get some personal insights into what happened during Trent's career as well. What isn't so nice is that the same thing might be going on with Flacco.

Great article. Some good insight about the situation that Joe's in right now, especially about he can't help the hole he's in with the media by talking.

This is exactly why I like Bill Belicheck who only gives non-answer answers to the media b/c you just can't win by talking to those vultures.

Everyone of those bland monotone post game interviews is him giving them a giant middle finger.

I love Belicheck's press conferences. He gives the media absolutely nothing to run with. It's got to drive them crazy, and he know's it.

But yeah, great article.Everything said in it was pretty much accurate. Flacco's numbers might not ever be good, but he's an important piece of the offense.

If trent can see all the cam controlling joe instead of joe controlling the offense why cant other analyst see it? Hell even after sundays game brian cushing said baltimore wasnt doing to many different things..in other words he was also calling our offense vanilla smh cam has go to go man!! He is not letting joe do nothing besides managing the dam game and hes gonna be very sadly mistaken if he thinks thats how were gonna beat brady smh!! Why wont he let joe off the leash? Im glad somebody noticed it and put it out there

you may be confused.

you mentioned in your first post that the same thing (dilfer being on a leash) could be happening to Flacco. i quoted your post and said that it is and that trent explained it (the situation that Flacco is in as the Ravens QB) in great detail.

Baltimore is just not the place for a QB, i swear. No matter what caliber of QB we have, we always complain and the media loves to kill our QB's. If Flacco left i dont see any QB wanting to come here through free agency. No way no how. Flacco's caught more heat than Romo this year...

Go Dilfer, screw the author.

Trent has little credibility from anyone outside of Bmore, and I'd have to believe it may be because he was the "worst QB to ever win a SB" and because he was a journeyman in this league after that. But I respect his insight and mindset. It's a shame that he, himself, is viewed as an idiot from everyone else because of this, but he's come to terms with it and knows it. I think as you get older, you start to settle into your negative light and the media battle is no longer relevant. I think Tony Romo went through that earlier in his career, but now he's a veteran in this league and played lights out late this season.

In a couple of years, I suspect Joe will reach the stage where being the public enemy doesn't matter anymore and he will settle in, SB title or not.

It's time.

This game is Joe's coming out party.

Take the cuffs off this 6 foot 6 beast and let him throw the football. Enough is enough.

Manage the game??? Manage the game by only giving Rice at most 10 times, and every once in a while gives Rice the ball 20-25 times like he should. I can call it managing the game if Rice was getting 20-25 carries every game, but he doesn't. Cam is not only limiting Joe, but the entire offense. We got the speedy receiver in Torrey Smith, we got a reliable receiver in Boldin, we got Pitta and Dickson, we have the talent but Cam is doing everything possible to limit the offenses full potential. If this was Madden, the offense total potential would be an A but because of Cam, we are stuck at the C potential range, because that's all this offense is with Cam, AVERAGE.

Ray Lewis said it best during America's Game: 2000 Ravens, the game plan was simple back then, give the ball to Jamal 20-25 times, play hard nosed defense, get a 3 and out and repeat. I don't know who our OC was back then, but he had it right, we should be doing that with Rice. I love the fact we have Boldin and Smith, Pitta and Dickson but we are a run first team and Rice needs to be given the ball 20-25 times and let Chuck do his thing on the defense to get the 3 and out. That's the type of offensive coordinator we need, not just someone who can take the handcuffs off Joe but also utilize Rice the way he should be which is make him the guy on offense, just like we did with Jamal.

meh. You dont spend a 1st on a QB, a 2nd on a WR, and trade for Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans to be a run first team. This offense is supposed to pick your poison -- want Flacco to beat you through the air, or Rice beat you on the ground?

Unfortunately neither of those two things happen with consistency.

You guys could be like the Jets. The best QB they ever had played 40 years ago and well... wasn't good. Respected or not, Flacco isn't the worst QB ever, he's just inconsistent. Things can change, are his issues coachable or does he freeze up like a deer in headlights ala Sanchez?

I think Joe's inconsistency is due to having an inconsistent OL, inconsistent receivers, and an inconsistent offensive coordinator. It's kind of hard to be consistent with his inconsistent supporting cast.

The offensive line has been an issue, but the biggest problem by far are his quarterback coach and offensive coordinator - who happen to be the same person. He showed great growth and consistency under a proven quarterback coach in Jim Zorn last year. In four years the offensive schemes of Cam Cameron have always been inconsistent - some are brilliant, most are strange, and a lot have been downright putrid i.e. the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the season.

I look at 2 examples: Joe Flacco and Alex Smith. Last year when he was being tutored by Jim Zorn, Joe had the best season of his career. Zorn if nothing else is a very, very proven quarterback coach - he got Matt Hasslebeck to 3 probowls, and helped Charlie Batch when he was a rookie, Before Zorn Joe had Hue Jackson, who tutored Joe in 2008-2009. When Joe had 2 proven quarterback coaches, he succeeded quite well.

Now Alex Smith. Alex Smith's highest quarterback rating of his entire career before this season was 81. He'd never thrown for 3000 yards in a season, never had a completion percentage over 60 percent, never threw less than double digit interceptions in any full season, and had certainly never been to the postseason. Now, in a shortened season under a proven quarterback coach, former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh who tutored Andrew Luck at Stanford, all of a sudden out of the blue Alex Smith plays not only the best football of his career, but leads his team to the playoffs? Beats the New Orleans Saints led by Superbowl Champion Drew Brees in spectacular fashion? How did Alex Smith suddenly turn it on, if not for the coaching?

I'm a huge, huge believer that coaching plays a critical role in the development of all players, quarterbacks included. Cam Cameron has proven he cannot coach Joe Flacco - is it any coincidence that our inconsistent offensive coordinator is coaching a quarterback who for the first 3 years of his career was very consistent, and now is having the worst, mot inconsistent year of his career?

Yeah but with an inconsistent Oline it limits that potential. Our Oline has shown up half the time this season, only our really big games did they make an impact and buy joe some time. I dont understand it, just buy joe atleast 5 seconds to drop back, plant his foot and get a reciever. I get mad when watching with friends at home because they scream when joe holds the ball too long.but they dont understand alot is going on, joe is looking but noone is getting open most likely. sometimes yes there open and joe misses them but I swear that Oline just lets rushers right on by like joe pranked them the wrong way.

Five seconds? lol... If our OL could do that, I guarantee we'd have the best offense in the league.

I don't think you can underestimate the injury to Lee Evans. At this point those guys would probably be really in sync. Torrey drops that ball in the Houston game, no doubt in my mind, and he doesn't even throw it to Boldin.
