The Stuff We Choose To Talk About

2 posts in this topic

Sometimes I find it funny, sometimes annoying, the things we decide to talk about here. I guess we're kind of conditioned to talk about the negative in our society and especially in sports. Anyway ...

Maybe I missed it, but have we talked about the fact that this week Terrell Suggs was named Pro Football Weekly's 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and then named NFL 101's 2011 AFC Defensive Player of the year? Maybe I missed the thread .. if so, sorry about that but I thought that we as fans should at least acknowledge that not everything the talking heads and media say about this team is negative.

Well let me try to explain this as best I can. Why does the news solely focus the majority of their stories on the downtrodden, or the crisis' around the world, or murders, planes crashing, the fear level and terrorists. It's because we have all been conditioned to see and hear those things and it be okay. It's normal now to wake up, turn on the radio or tv and hear about some suicide bomber who took out a bus on the way to work. Or whatever it is, you get the idea.

So why are negative? It's because we are conditioned and I guess to a certain extent it's what we want. We tune in to NASCAR not for the cars to keep taking lefts, but for that one time when that big accident happens.
