My Level Of Respect For Ed Reed And How Much It Dropped

168 posts in this topic

I stuck up for Reed when he was missing tackles, when he wasn't fast enough to catch up to plays, when he freelances and creates big plays for the other team. I didn't even get on him for his horrible attempt at tackling people these past few weeks.

I respected Ed Reed right along there with Ray Lewis, if he wanted to call someone out the right person would have been Cam Cameron and the rest of that Offensive Line. Calling out the QB the week of the AFC Championship after the weeks of criticism Joe has had gone against him is pretty shallow. I would expect more from Ed Reed and I am supremely disappointed in him.

ED!!!! Go after Cam and hos lame play calling, not the QB who is limited by what he has.

I'll always enjoy the opportunity I got to watch Ed Reed's career but he really messed up on this one.

Way to go Ed, throw the QB under the bus. THATS TEAM right there....pathetic, if that's his attitude about our QB than we should just not show up because now guys are going to questions Joe and maybe the faith needed to beat the Patriots won't be enough now. We can't beat those guys, Ed said so...so why even try?

Maybe I'm being extreme here but I don't care......

ED REED, you let me down big time, buddy

Did you even listen to the full sound-bite? This thread should be locked.

Ed criticized Joe, the O line, and the team as a whole.

Well everyone around the league is sounding off on Ed Reed and they all agree HE SHOULDN't HAVE SAID IT....like I said go after Cam but dont call your QB shaky, or he was rattled and should have done this or that

Guys on NFL Network were even like wow, YOU NEVER throw the QB under the bus

So if a guy tells the truth, that a QB needs to play better, along with his offensive line, along with himself (Reed), and his defense, to beat an upcomming opponent, this is throwing people under buses?

Its like when I hear about people "hatin", simply because they tell it like it is, the truth, and people don't wanna hear that.

If my QB, and O-line sucked, and I dropped 2 possible interceptions....to come out and address these issues is wrong?

NO, its not.

The defense, and special teams stops were the only postive thing to come out of the divisonal round win. All other issues must be fixed, before we play Tom Brady.

And can I ask you again, did you listen to the entire soundbite, or just what ESPN/NFLN has spoonfed you?

PS- When you get sacked 5 TIMES, you start to become "rattled". I would.

Did you even listen to the whole thing. The media is turning nothing into something, it's what they do. And your doing what they want you to. Reed pretty much said the whole team (himself included) needs to play better. He didn't single anyone out. People need to actually listen to the interview instead of listen to the media. It's always been my opinion that pro football has the worst media out there.

Is it so hard to think for yourself anymore? Joe said he doesn't care. Harbs said it's all good. Why is this still being talked about?

It was a 14 minute interview in which Reed criticized not only Joe Flacco, but the entire team including himself, he also gave props to the team and Joe. Context is huge in this case. Please take whatever you hear from ESPN or NFLN with a grain of salt; they're nothing short of sensationalism; sports tabloids. Ed wants his team to do better, he wants nothing more than for the Ravens to go into Foxboro and bestow (another) playoff beat-down on the Pats.

I have to believe that Ed Reed was just foolishy oblivious of the repercussions his comments would generate this week. However by him being a veteran I would have assesed him as a man who would not insult his offense days before a big game. Now all I'm hearing on espnn is how divided our team is.

Our team is not divided. On 105.7 the guy was saying he asked Jamel McClain about the comments, and he had no idea what the guy was asking. Then, he asked about the pats TE's, and he couldn't shut McClain up.

The Ravens are not distracted by this nonsense, non-issue. They are focused on getting a Ring. For Ray, for Ed, for themselves.

Ed never said we couldn't beat the Patriots. He said if we play the same way like we played against the texans we wouldn't beat the Patriots. He didn't "throw his Qb under a bus", he simply said he needs to play better, he even said the team needs to play better.

schrock dude, usually i agree with most of the things you say, but i disagree completely here. He got asked the question about Joe's play, and he answered with the truth. While Joe wasn't all to blame for his "poor play" (i think he played well, the media thinks he played poorly), cause there were was always tons of pressure from the texans, which caused him to be rattled, many dropped passes, and so on. This locker room isn't divided, Ray said it's not a issue, Jameel said its not a issue, even Joe said its not an issue. The ONLY reason people are talking about this is because they have nothing better to do.

I disagree. I think that while Ed is calling out the entire offense (not solely Joe) he is doing it in a constructive fashion; as he put it himself, there's a "method to the madness." Now, if Ed said "The way Joe is playing, we won't be able to win, we almost lost because of him" that'd be different. However, he simply said Joe was rattled by the Houston defense (true) and needs to get rid of the ball quicker (true). Even Joe attested that this caught him off guard, BUT he took it the right way and will learn from it.

Honestly, understand the position that Ed is in. He is one game away from his first chance at a Super Bowl. Knowing how much this guy has given to our organization, we should understand how passionate he is about this opportunity that he wants Joe to play at a level higher than which he currently is playing (which, to be honest, is pretty high already). Ed is surely speaking on Ray's behalf as well. These guys are on the fringes of their career and want to take full advantage of the present opportunity, and they want Joe to understand that and leave it all on the field Sunday.

Why do you take what ESPN says to heart? These media outlets are here to stir the pot. Listen to what Joe said about the comments instead (you can find that video on NFLN videos). That's what really matters

Ed Reed was not directly insulting Joe man, he was ASKED about him. Every time he answered, he also mentioned the team as a whole. "Joe needs to play better - we ALL do".

Stupid topic, so wrong

Thank you! I'd rather this than Ed pulling the Harbaugh where it seems like everything is spiffy.

By the way, do you or anyone else have the link to the FULL Reed interview?

Mountain out of a molehill. That's the entertainment side of the NFL. Like the WWF, just trying to drum up soap-opera story lines.

You see this all the time, every team gets the gotcha from the media every now and again and so many fans buy in hook, line, and sinker.

I don't think Joe played poorly against the Texans. I think actually played quite well. His passes were on point for the majority of the game. He could of had a great day if our oline and pass catchers could of done their jobs.

Well i kind of contradicted myself in my own statement lol. I know he didn't play poorly, but the guys interviewing Ed, and im sure the media thought he did. If he would've had completions for all the drops, and gotten better protection, i think it could've been a 250+yard 3 Tds game for him.

Edit: fixed it for you lol

If he did that then that's fine, the media made it out to be Reed calling out Flacco and I didn't hear the mention of him calling out the rest of the players to. I guess that's the way the media spins it

Everything I read and watched had Ed criticizing the QB days before the game, if it wasn't such a big deal guys like Suggs wouldnt have exploded on Skip on First Take, the media wouldn't have swarmed to the head coach for his response......its probably not a big deal but its still one of those unwritten rules, you keep it in house. Reed at least kept his name on it unlike those guys in New York

***on another note this is the most negatives I've ever gotten

Joe doesn't care and he likes to have fun with the media, BUT even Reed's comment kind of caught Joe by surprise. Reed should have called out Cam Cameron, he should have called out Torrey Smith and Lee Evans to raise their games, and the two TEs....and that OL ? wow, they stunk big time on Sunday

gotcha lol, ya he definitely could of had a performance like that if the o-line blocked better and the pass catchers caught the blatant drops imo.

Saying he didn't single Joe out is not true at all. He was VERY specific on plays that he didn't think Joe did well with. Can you say he made comments about specific plays about anyone else? Like Ray Rice falling before even being contacted by anyone? No. This might blow over but going to the media about it instead of the men on your team is disrespectful. Joe found out about it at dinner while it came on the television. There is really no excuse for that.

I agree with you 100 percent. At first I thought it was more of him slyly questioning Cam Cameron but after seeing the reaction from Joe & everyone.. I'm not so sure. People are lying to themselves if they don't think his statements weren't a distraction.... and avoidable one too. Rationalizing it by saying he is trying to get his teammates fired up... okay you really need to go to the media to do that?
