[Blogs] Late For Work 1/18: Wow. Never Cross Suggs When It Comes To Joe

131 posts in this topic

Fact remains.. if his name were Tebow.. people would be saying those game winning drives against Pittsburgh (2x), SF, Cinci(2x) were ALL about him! Last I checked Flacco has yet to say he's unimpressed with the Def that has all this "so-called" HOF's that can't shut down an Cardinal team w/ no running game or SD; when they got chewed up like a J.V. Secondary.

Do your job and let him do his... All I know is he's in his 4th yr. They finally gave him a complete offensive team. It's not like this Offense was scaring folk with Todd Heap & Derrick Mason over the last 3yrs.

Why wasn't Ed screaming about QB play when Baltimore had Kyle Boller... or a broke down Steve McNair?

If you scared of Brady it's ok Ed.. Most of the league is too! How about you sack him a couple times and see what happens!

in 7 wins against playoffs teams. QB rating near 100. . .10 td's 2 interceptions. Sounds like a big game qb to me. Don't forget the 92 yard drive against pitt AT heinz field to win the game. I love fairweather fans who forget the qb that we have because our defense has had to win a couple games. Flacco's won a few himself losers.

Reed was just speaking the truth...Joe was rattled, but Joe still got the ball out with not much time in the pocket...and the receivers dropped 4-5 passes. I thought Joe had a solid game with very few mistakes. He did have his almost automatic pocket fumble/s but he got it done. I think joe has a big game this Sunday leading to the Super-Baugh!!!!

Let's be sensible.....could Ed Reed comments been kept inside the locker room ..."yes". At the same time there is a thing in sports called 'father time" where players begin to age and are willing to put forth their best foot to win it all. This partcular incident of criticism is not intended to bring Joe down or place added pressure on his shoulders, but to identify areas in which can be improved. Flacco is unquestionably a good QB; however, there are various things that he needs to improve, just like the rest of the team. This said, I have a good feeling that with all this unnecessary media drama this week, that Joe Cool will have a career day against that good ol Patriot defense :-)

There were a couple times I thought (but you don't know cause on TV you can't see what's out there) that Flacco had enough time to get rid of the ball and make a play, but ended up taking a sack. But ultimately, one of the reasons we won was because we didn't turn the ball over, so who knows how this turns out if he tries to squeeze the ball in on one of those plays and it gets picked.

For the most part, when he did let go of the ball, he put it right on the money ... and in a few cases to totally covered receivers. That's to say, it was a tough day across the board for the offense.

I'm with those who think it might have been one better for Reed to wait with the criticism - even if he's right and even if he's earned the right to criticize. These are typically the things that should not be shared with anyone outside the locker room.
Do we thing Ray Lewis is satisfied with everyone? Do we thing the coaches are satisfied with everyone? Surely not - still you don't hear Ray or the coaches criticize any of the players to the media...

(BTW, I agree with those too who say that the Reed didn't really hurt Joe with what he said - and I agree with him in what he said. It's just that it should be kept inside IMHO... Let talking negative about the teammates to the media be the Jets' weapon ;)

Every quarterback gets rattled with pressure, but it's how they react to the pressure that makes the difference. Example Tom Brady got rattled in the 2009 playoff game against the Ravens, and thats what I would like to see in the 2012 championship game, Tom Brady rattled!!!!

First of all the offense struggles to much, flacco bn wit us for 4yrs n he lookz like he cant run the offense consistently!the past couple games the offense keep goin 3n out im tired of hold my breath til 4th qrt,why cant we score n red zone, why cant the line block long enuff, why is we not running the ball down plz throats.I dnt see y we the offense still strugglin!

It'd be really nice if this web site had a spell-check feature. (Or does it?)

BTW - Flacco's QBR was 97.1 in the last game. Was he perfect? Absolutely not. But he did what we needed him to do against one of the top defenses. Flacco has faced the stiffest defenses in the league all year. All the other "great" QBs have had the luxury of playing against non-existent defense, for the most part.

Flacco is going to have a great game this weekend. Just sit back and watch.

If we get to Brady on D we may not even need Flacco to do to much. I smell another 3 sack game for Suggs.
Exactly. Anyone remember the stats of that wild card game two years ago? Flacco was 4/10... Tebow numbers - yet we won - and we won big.

I'm positive Rice will have a big match again. And that's a sign - I'm the one who was positive the Niners would beat the Saints and the Giants upset the Packers ;)

lets be honest the pats will be ready and fired up, it is the afc championship and they are the home team in front of there loud screaming fans. we need to want this more than they do and create turnovers and get pressure on brady. if we can do that and get the running game going than we will give ourselves a chance. go ravens and i believe!!

That's what happens when people type the way they speak. Mix that in with a little internet shorthand, and it mind as well be a cryptograph.

Would it kill people to bash the o line sometimes, well i guess its easier to criticize the qb for people who don't know football.
I think Reed's criticism was more about the O-line than Flacco.

Yesterday, McKinnie was supposed to go on Mike and Mike. They didn't end up having him on and I later learned that he was a no-show. Then, Suggs was supposed to be on First Take yesterday and he was a no-show. I thought at that moment that we as a team decided to just not participate in the media frenzy. Actually, I thought that would have been a good idea.

Then, I see that Suggs was only late and they taped the session with Skip to be broadcast today, then the viral Reed interview took place. I was then left wishing that my assumption was correct.

Look I love Suggs and his jousting with Skip brings us on the national stage, but I have to think Sizzle's got better things to do than try to defend our ugly win last weekend, defend his performance in the game and the performance of our QB. I thought this would have been a good week to just say, "Skip, I don't have time to listen to you insult me and my team this week ... I've got a game to get ready for"

to Ravensfolyfe: I remember us scoring twice while in the redzone against the #2 defense, and it was on Flaccos arm.
Flacco is right, the media is making way to big a deal about what Reed said. Journalists ask questions, players answer them. They dont get much time to think about their answers so sometimes what they say doesnt come out exactly politically correct but you can bet Reed backs Flacco 100% just like Suggs does.

the o-line has to step up and give Joe plenty of protection time to make his reads and the wrs to get open. but, Joe has to also get that ball out of his hands a lot quicker than he does!

When are people going to back off Joe Flacco hes a good quarterback might not be great yet but he has done things very few have i mean let me remind you here what we had and tell me which one you would trade him for Vinny Testaverde, Eric Zier, Jim Harbaugh, Scott Mitchell, Stoney Case, Tony Banks, Trent Dilfer, Elvis Grbac, Randell Cunningham, Chris Redman, Jeff Blake, Kyle Boller, Anthony Wright So please back off people or we could always go back to these great players

Well, this should end all debate about whether or not Ed Reed was wrong in saying what he said. Harbaugh said it's no big deal. Flacco said the same. The fans should trust in the ability of our team to be just that...a team. This whole mini-fiasco will be an afterthought come Sunday. And if the team isn't thinking about it, neither should we.

And check out Joe Cool wearing the Ball So Hard t-shirt! LOL!

Thanks very much Sizzle for defending Joe. That's the kind of teammate we need.

Regarding Ed's comments. He should know better than to say anything that even hints of a perception of negativity toward a teammate. You know what Ed? You dropped a ball (maybe 2) during the game that should have been intercepted. Noone (except me now) is calling you out on that.

I might be the only one, but I have a cnspiracy theory that this whole Bayless v. Suggs thing is staged to some degree. Part of the show.

because the NFL is as much for the show as for the sport. And we all know Suggs is a natural born showman. And he talks for the franchise, for the team, for the QB, everything he says he probably really means - if it's really part of the show, both Suggs and the franchise win - so why not?
