Joe Flacco Could Set A Record Sunday

30 posts in this topic

I was watching Around The Horn this afternoon and Bill Plaschke stated that Eli Manning tied a record for road playoff victories with four. I looked up the record because I couldn't believe that to be right, but sure enough, it is.

QBs with most road playoff victories, career (all with four):

Len Dawson
Jake Delhomme
Joe Flacco
Eli Manning
Mark Sanchez
Roger Staubach

Note: Super Bowl victories are considered "neutral site" victories, not road wins.

So, with a victory Sunday, Flacco will either hold the record alone or be tied with Eli Manning (if the NY Giants defeat the San Francisco 49ers). Sure, it's not a big deal record but it is remarkable that in all the years of the NFL, the record is four.

Wow... not even the media darlings of Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers aren't on this list, but hey if the Ravens/Giants both win, you know the media will just bring up Eli having the record at 5 wins and completely ignore the fact Eli is tied with Joe.

Well, part of the issue is probably that lots of QBs dont last very long. and a lot dont make it to the Playoffs more than once or twice. Were blessed with a QB at 5 straight playoff apperances.

Another big part is that the best QBs tend to play most of their playoff games at home. Brady and Peyton Manning aren't on the list, but they're not too familiar with the wild card route. They tend to secure one of the top couple of seeds. Brady's has 15 playoff wins total in his career, of which the vast majority would be at home.

I am one of those people that don't like to classify QBs by Ws or Ls. Its a cool feat, but the feat is hardly on Joe. He's played a part on a pretty darn good team.

Yeah...I too subscribe to the philosophy of Joe happens to play on some pretty good teams (overall), and he is fairly proficient at his job. As usual, Qb's get too much credit/blame dependent on the situation.

I guess most of the great QB's played most of their playoff games at home or just plain sucked on the road, interesting list indeed.

I imagine most of the SB winners had bye weeks and then home field advantage. Haha, if you think about it, the fact that he is setting a ROAD wins record is kind of a bash on Joe's regular season performances, i.e. W versus L.

Not Joe Flacco's fault that 11-5 and 12-4 seasons got him only a wild card spot in the play-offs. Most divisions in the NFL and that's a division-winning record.`

WOW! I knew that Flacco was tied with Manning but now that you think about it that is unbelievable haha. Of course, I guess the good quarterbacks were always playing at home!!! :P like Flacco will be doing for years to come

to be fair, teams are rarely as good as Pittsburg has been, and that has pushed us on the road.

I know this:

When this team wins on Sunday (and you know Joe will have to be a big part of that because they will focus on Rice) I don't want to see all the Flacco haters hanging around celebrating.

They can take their negative vibe elsewhere.

No Flip-floppers here. And for Joe's sake, as well as the rest of ours, I hope they win evenmore, lest we should have to listen to the rediculous ramblings of some of our more verbal anti-Flaccos. i.e. RBates, Ratedr, etc.

I definitely didn't want to take away from Joe's accomplishment. Winning games on the road is tough, and it's much tougher in the postseason. I was just explaining why that list isn't exactly a who's who of QBs through history. Staubach is the only truly great one on there, though Manning is one of the best in the league right now.
I dunno, Len Dawson and Rodger Staubach are pretty good company to keep.

Since Joe came into the league he's been breaking records, count this one as another one.

I like Joe Flacco under fire, I think he's coming out blazing and Tom Brady, New England, and the broadcasting world aren't going to recognize what just happened.

True, but I'm just saying the reason we haven't had home field is because Pittsburg is on such a run.

From this morning's Late For Work: http://blogs.baltimo...-of-modern-era/
If he can pull off an upset in Foxborough Sunday, Joe Flacco would become the first quarterback to win 50 games as starter in his first four NFL seasons.

Flacco can also tie the Patriots’ Tom Brady for the most playoff wins by a quarterback in their first four NFL seasons. Currently, Flacco is tied with Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner for second with five wins each.
To me this solidifies that we made a good pick in Joe and he is a QB worthy of being on a team like the Ravens.

I believe a win would also put Flacco at an even 50 (regular + postseason).
yeah your right. I think i read that in the LFW today.
I think Tom Brady is the only other quarterback to that in 4 years idk..but if its true how cool would it be for Flacco to tie that record by beating th guy who set it?

oh wait just look a couple posts ahead of this!
