[Blogs] Comparing Flacco To Remaining Playoff QBs

221 posts in this topic

I like this type of stats and how it shows Flacco's worth, but it doesn't help us much for this week. Of course, its exciting to see how well he's doing and how he can improve even more in the following years, but it's a completely different matchup this coming week.

I really enjoyed this article, I've always believed in Flacco. Makes me appreciate what he has already brought, and will continue to bring, to this football organization. People in my home state (Utah) call me crazy walking around with a Baltimore jacket on; and when they ask who my favorite offensive player is, I proudly say, Flacco. People just don't understand that he has so much potential. He's my teams QB and he does a Hell of a good job. Go Ravens!!!!

Joe Flacco has shown the integrity composure determination and most of all the SKILLS to match his statistics.. Comparisons are an everyday occurence and in some of my circles comparisons are bad business. Everyone has there"solution" to Joes "inability to be elite". Many alternatives are available to our management staff who have developed him into a force to be reckoned with.. 4 years 44 wins speaks for itself. Id like to see the ankle weights of a washed up innefective approach to 3rd and 4th quarter running plays that give the ball back to the opposition.Cmon man !!! We have the talent Houston just had the problem and Brady is in our way. Get er done boys !!!!

I believe Joe Flacco is a very good QB. I have seen him do what needs to be done to win a game. I have also seen him look to the sidelines on almost every play to get plays from his OC. I also noticed that the elite QB's don't do that. This means that Joe is only as good as the OC let's him be. Another problem is the other members of the offense have to be there to do their jobs. Last Sunday, the Ravens played one of the best defenses in the NFL today. He held his own and we won the game. His stats were not great, but then again, how many teams have good stats against the Texans this year. Proud of the win the Ravens got Sunday!! This Sunday is a serious challenge. I have no doubt the offense will be there to do their part. I have no doubt the defense will chill TB. Go Ravens!!

Joe flacco has won allot of games , numbers dont lie .Points do not fly on the board when the defense tackles someone ,,,,, Yes we all vent when we lose but we won we are two games away from a superbowl ring . Give it a rest or go find another team with an elite qb oh thats right i forgot all the elite qb's are home playing madden save one (brady) and i am confident the ravens will take care of that this weekend. Isnt it bad enough that every single station is saying how we are going to lose because of flacco do we really have to agree with them? I for one believe we can do it .

Not bad for a quarterback who started as a backup, didn't come from a division 1 school or was expected to contribute from the get go. Anyone who doesn't see the improvement in Flacco over 4 years is either blind or named Skip Bayless

The no respect thing is all going to be water under the bridge when Joe stands on that podium after the game. Their going to ask him how does it feel he's going to respond this is great, and he will lift the Lombardi trophy over his head. enough said! Go Ravens!!!!!!!!!!

According to outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, the Ravens will be facing one of the top three quarterbacks of all-time this Sunday in New England’s Tom Brady.

“When it’s all said and done, it’s going to be Johnny [Unitas], him and Peyton [Manning], end of discussion,” Suggs said.
What Suggs, and others, may not realize is that the Ravens have a quarterback on their own sideline that has in many ways mirrored Brady’s statistics over their first four NFL years.
A closer look at Flacco’s numbers compared to the three remaining quarterbacks in the playoffs – Brady, New York’s Eli Manning and San Francisco’s Alex Smith – shows that Flacco is neck-and-neck with Brady and ahead of the others.
Flacco came out of Delaware as opposed to Brady’s Michigan, Smith’s Utah and Manning’s Ole Miss, all big-time Division I programs.
Over their first four years, Flacco has the second-highest completion percentage (61 percent), only trailing Brady (62 percent). Flacco has the most passing yards per game (215.9) of the three, 2.7 yards ahead of Brady. Flacco has the second-highest collective quarterback rating (85.9). Brady’s is 86.0. Flacco has said before that a quarterback often doesn’t get recognition until they win a Super Bowl ring. Brady won his first in just his second year. Manning won his in his fourth season.
In his fourth year, Flacco can get to his first Super Bowl if he wins on Sunday in New England.
“Hey, this is what a team, this is what a player, lives for is playoff time, and having to win tight games or what could possibly be tight games,” Flacco said last week. “That’s what I, that’s what we all, really want to be in the position to do.”
This season, Flacco has excelled in tough games against playoff opponents.
In seven games against 2011 playoff teams, the Ravens are 7-0. But everybody knows that Flacco is a winner. After all, he’s won more games than any starting quarterback in modern history in his first four years.
In those seven games, Flacco has completed 126 of 202 passes (62 percent) and thrown 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions. He has averaged 224 passing yards per game and posted an average quarterback rating of 99.6.
Those numbers have not only come against playoff teams, but defensively-driven playoff teams.
The four playoff teams that Flacco faced this year – Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Francisco and Houston – all finished the regular season with defenses ranked in the top seven. Pittsburgh was No. 1, Houston No. 2, San Francisco No. 4 and Cincinnati No. 7.
Flacco went 14-for-27 for 176 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against the Houston Texans in the divisional round.
“That’s a winning performance, and Joe – I told him [Sunday night] – I thought he played very, very well,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said.

Flacco has NOT won more games than any starting quarterback in modern history in his first four years... He was simply the starting quarterback in the games in which the RAVENS won during those four years.

OK, who has more wins then?

Of topic, but it appears the Ravens are going into the bunker...

I complained about Mike and Mike having blown off McKinnie - he was supposed to appear at 8:45 and they talked about Tebow. Then, I heard that Sizzle blew off Bayless (I said on a previous post that he shouldn't be going on that show this week). I have now learned that McKinnie actually blew off Mike and Mike.

Good for the Ravens. Let the national media bash Flacco and our inept offense all week. We'll not provide any more sound bites. We're busy preparing.

I wish more articles and commentators would talk about the Ravens playing the Pats last year and losing to them 23-20 in OT with Gronk,Hernandez, welker etc...the ravens had a double digit lead in the fourth quarter and really the only reason the ravens lost was because of a BS roughing the Quarterback call against the ravens that set NE up to score...the Ravens will come through as long as they play fundamental and discipline ball

After a miserable start that lasted for a number of years, Terry Bradshaw was booed unmercifully by Steeler fans and then, all of a sudden, he said a light went on in his head. In an instant, he understood completely what quarterbacking in the NFL was all about. He never again had to think about anything, it bacame automatic and he became a star performer, however lovably strange he appears to be. It is not unlike most rookies at other positions report that after their rookie year/s, the game slows down for them

I like that Ed Reed pretty much called out Joe Flacco said that he doesn't have a hold on the "O"... Joe Flacco better step his game up if not we'll get blow in New England... He has all the talent to be a Elite QB but, the Game is still to fast for him and it shows... Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are so sharp That its going to be a very tough game for the Ravens to win... I hope that we win but I'll take Tom Brady over Check down Joe any day... I think that its going to take a couple more years before the game slows down for Joe, then he'll be OK....

That's not what Ed said, RavensMan2003.

In short, he said what we all know from last Sunday : Joe needs more time each play, and less instruction from the sideline. That's all he said.

(The man would be a fool to criticize Joe days before a Championship game. And Ed is no fool.)

Go Ed. Go Joe. Go Ravens.

now, i will be one of the first cats to mention when Joe is just flat out stinking up the joint at the qb spot. however, vs the texans the man was literally running for his life nearly the entire game because the o-line just layed down for the texans d. give Joe some time and he can shred any defense! we will need that next week.

I believe in Joe. Joe has had passes in big games in clutch situations that coudlnt be thrown any better and the receivers have dropped it. True Ravens fans remember. Of course he has things he could be better at but dont we all. Its called development. Fans that rip Joe Flacco give Ravens fans a bad name, just my opinion. I guess some people will never be satisfied. Time for Joe to redeem himself in Foxborough after Mark Claytons drop pass a few years back. Only one team I hate more than the Patriots and we know who that is...come on Ravens the time is now!
