Kinda Glad We Are Away For The Championship Game

49 posts in this topic

What is this foolishness you may ask????

For those of you that were at the game Sunday...what did you think? Honestly.
All four of us agreed the day was just a bit 'off'.

The offense was called onto the field which never gets our fans as fired up as when the defense is. It's just weird trying to yell YANDA, MCKINNIE, GRUBBS, OHER, etc.
Then as Mishael hurriedly sang the National Anthem we all looked to the sky for the flyover thinking it must be coming early. I guess we weren't completely deprived as it did show...3 minutes later. :D

But the entire environment just seemed flat. The stadium was definitely louder for the Thanksgiving Day game and we had to beg people around us to stand during key defensive plays. Harbaugh even tried to get the fans fired up during the 5th playing of the White Stripes, but it just never seemed to take off as it did during the Steeler's game.

Even on the way out of the stadium it just didn't seem like we were a team that was going to the playoffs.

So because of all this, I honestly feel it is more advantageous for our defense to get into their 'everyone disrespects us' mode for Sunday's big game at Foxboro.

I agree. I was saying this during the game. I didn't go to the game, but it did look like the crowd wasn't very energetic.

I remember there was 45 seconds left, TJ Yates went to a huddle and the place was quiet. Yates looked like he was using his 'inside' voice as he clapped to break the huddle. That's not imposing much of a home field advantage.
And every time they cut to the fans, you see them sitting, not making a noise. 49ers game was totally different. We've seen games at M&T where the fans are rabid.

Maybe it was the cold, maybe it was an early game (and the tailgate started late), maybe its because we struggled so much. But I agree, I don't mind going on the road.

BA was asked if it was the loudest game at the Bank this year and he said it definitely wasn't. The Steelers and Jets games were two examples he mentioned when it was louder.

I could tell from watching on tv that it wasn't that loud. I guess all the loud people couldn't afford to go. I thought it was due to our offense falling on it's face, but you saw how loud the Jets game was, and that was one of our worst offensive performances.

I do think people (including me) are getting tired of watching this offense struggle with so much potential.

It was plenty loud but certainly not as loud as it could have been. The fact we didn't convert many 3rd downs had people deflated. The severe wind chill was just blasting people as well. Personally, I lost my voice.

I wasn't there but I was thinking during the game that it didn't seem like the fans knew what the hell they were supposed to do at that game. During the regular season games, fans go crazy in the Bank, but during this particular game, every camera cutaway to the crowd showed soooo many people just sitting there not making a peep, even on 3rd downs for our defense. It was ridiculous! It must be the bandwagon effect, or something... The people who ponied up the money for playoff tickets weren't the same individuals who go to all the regular season games, I guess... Couldn't really say but I wanted to slap some people whenever the crowd was shown on TV because it infuriated me how lacking in energy the place seemed.

Sometimes I wonder if the cameras pick the worst fans on purpose sometimes. Our section was up and yelling on every third down. I'm still recovering from all the screaming and maybe by this weekend I'll have my full voice back.

Same. I was standing on my feet at home raising my hands and yelling. And then they scan to the crowd and 75% of them were sitting down, staring. I kept commenting on it every time. Frustrating. Next time we have a home game. I'm going to have to fork out the dough on two tickets, just so I can smack some energy to the people around me. When I'm at the game, my voice and energy doesn't break (no matter how cold it is).

I have no doubt the majority of people were up for the game. Yelling. But it just didn't seem the same.

Ray has said in the past that its easier for the defense to operate through all their checks on the road because they can hear each other communicate. On the other hand, we were pretty doo doo on the road this year against some mediocre and crap teams.

Glad you guys saw what I did. I was very disappointed.
You know who the idiots are that jump to their feet every 3rd down and wave their arms yelling "GET UP, GET UP!"?

I was one of them. lol

the Ravens defense will play extremely well against the brady bunch. i'd rather the game be played in baltimore of course...but...i believe that in spite of the Ravens losing to the titans, jaguars, seahawks and chargers on the road....this game is "bigger" than all of those. and...the Ravens (for some odd reason) always seem to get up for the big games.

I have always wondered how loud the stadium would be if every single capable person were to yell DEEEEFENSE at one time during say a fourth down.

Anyway, part of this is leading me to finally want to shell out the 30K to get to the lower level where it appears more people stand. But with my luck...we will get stuck in some old biddy section with guys wearing sweaters and sport coats. That's the shame of the whole things. The loudest people are usually the ones with the cheaper tickets and who drink more up in the 500 sections. . We gotta find a way to get those people down low. The TV scanned to the lower level people. And they were a lot of older folk, sipping hot chocolates, whispering in each others ears.

Yeah, I agree. I dont have season tickets. I go to 2-3 games a year though, the past 3 years.

I am usally the only one, along with those I go with, who are screaming our heads off. Most season ticket holders become complacent, and forget their duty to be as loud as you can possibly be.. it doesn't help alot of season ticket holders are OLD.

I get angry when they only get loud when its 3rd down, AFTER the huddle!!!

I scream 1-2-3rd down, from before huddle to after snap. Thats how it should go.

You know, I just checked out Sunday's Fan Cam and did notice something.
Almost every single fan is standing in the fifth level cheering and clapping as the players are running on the field. The fans on the lower levels are mostly standing too, but talking amongst themselves. Many are not even watching the field. Now the club level...it's a joke! Hardly anyone is standing. WTH?!
I am actually shocked more people in the suites are standing than those in club.

So I guess you are right, 5th level is where the fun is at. This is something I do truly need to think about before making such a huge investment.

Forget about the club level. Most of those people are casual fans. Those seats are owned by businesses. And usually during the big games, the people who have the most money show up to those corporate tickets. That's every club level in the NFL though.

I've been to game in the suites before. Its the same thing. Only about half of the people are true blue Ravens fans. Though I wouldn't mind spending more times in the suites.

I was born and raised in Bmore. But now I live 4 hours away in Suffolk VA. The last game I went to I got seats in club and it was like I was the only one standing and cheering in my entire section. Some where actually looking at me like I was crazy.

We went the Browns game a couple years ago and sat in one of the suites. We won it on a silent auction. It was our Christmas gift to our managers. Let me tell you, that was one of the most painful games we ever attended. So lame.

Same here, I was like "this doesn't feel like a home game right now" at one point. It must've been a function of the ineptitude of the offense, as usual

That explains it right there, LOL. I'm always somewhere in the 500's and I definitely try to get loud.

As a season ticket holder;

1. I go to every game and scream my [profanity deleted] off. I'm still recovering, and I do it more often then you. Also I'm not old!

2. Lots of people who AREN'T season ticket holders don't know when to yell and when not too, and are loud as hell when the offense is on the field. I've heard chants of "LET'S GO JOE" and crap like that when people just need to shutup.

More on topic, yeah I'm not quite sure what it was but the energy didn't seem to be there. Maybe it was the cold, it was absolutely frigid. Maybe it was the extraordinarily flat offense, I don't know. It was good at some points and flat at others, but at the end of the day we got the job done. Of course its already warm again too...

Also, some guy 2 rows behind me was so drunk he forgot how to stand and fell down the seats and landed next to me, and his stupid buddy laughed and bought him another beer. Almost texted to get them ejected just for their own safety. Some really fat drunk woman in front of me did the same thing, never seen anyone fall before and then 2 in one day. Maybe people were just drunker then normal?

I still rather face them at home. But we play better when were underdogs. And almost all ESPN see us that way

CORRECT!!! I had the pleasure of attending the first Ravens/Texans game this year in a suite. Awesome experience, great food (crab cakes), endless beer/wine/liquor. Nice not fighting crowds to use the bathroom and the list goes on and on, but the fan excitement is very low key. Me, my wife, son, and mother-in-law were the loudest in the suite of about 20 people. We were outside on the balcony the whole time, while majority of the weekly occupants were inside the suite on there phones or whatever new electronic device was just released that week!

It was a great time, and one I won't forget, but if it's loud, loyal, fun loving fans you want, sit in the cheap seats, if they exsist.

For one... the Texans are a likeable team. If it wasn't for the Ravens, I'd actually be rooting for the Texans. They're a great team that has had really unfortunate injuries to almost all of their stars for parts of this season. top defensive player, top offensive player, starting RB, starting QB, etc.... etc...

Two... this is what happens when you see the same story over and over. Defense plays great, offense does nothing.

Three... the PR/Event staff really needs to get their act together. This is not the first time they have rushed through the national anthem for absolutely NO REASON. They started the anthem while fans were still cheering the defense coming on to the field. The players weren't lined up and were running down to the end zone they normally do. It was so sloppy. I don't blame any of this for the fans spirit during the game, but it was already mentioned in the post so I figure I'd comment.

But I don't get why you'd want the game away. The Patriots get enough calls already, and are sure to get more being at home and their crowd influencing the officials. Also, our defense would be introduced this game... so the whole point about the offense introductions being flat don't really matter for this game.

I was section 508. It was plenty loud in my area. Yet, overall, still very loud but not as loud as Steelers and Jets. Still loud though!!
