MERGED: Ed Reed Comments On Flacco

Wow....as critical as I've been on Flacco....the amount of pressure that is on him this week is at a sky high and I'm not even sure is deserving..

Its one thing if its bc the team and players on it are coming to wits end due to Joes body of work in big games...its completely unfair if this is bc the Texans game... Why? Cause for the most part even though I saw bad Flacco appear at times last Sunday he eventually ended up with 2 Tds and no Ints against a damn good defense..

Like I said...I'm not defending Flacco...fire to Flaccos butt is good in my opinion but not if its bc people assume he had a bad game against Houston...when in actuality it wasn't that bad at all..
If both of us are saying this then you know it's getting ridiculous.

So what happens if we lose? Then we'll start to see the calls for a replacement. Absolutely ridiculous, it's to the point where I'm not even excited for the game anymore, just exhausted.

Bottom line is Reed had no reason to make the comments he did in a public forum weather you believe they are valid or not. This needs to be taken care of in the locker room not in public. If they were misconstrued then set the record straight. Otherwise, Reed needs to be set straight.

Talk about a non-story. After finally hearing the actual audio, thanks to LFW, it doesn't seem like Ed was calling Joe out. It looks like PFT, or whoever broke the story, was taking snippets to stir up some drama.

People need to calm down and actually listen to the whole thing. If you are mad at Reed, you obviously didn't. He said the whole team needs to play better, which they do.

interesting Ed takes off 15 weeks and comes back and has a good game and now wants to open his mouth. Where were you ed when scott in the bengals game ran right by you when you thought we were playing two hand touch football?
Because Ed obviously didn't make a single play between Week 1 and this past Sunday.

Ridiculous...

It's really sad how quickly fans are drawing battle lines over this. And I'd wager a good amount haven't even listened to the audio or read the entire transcript.

I haven't chimed in here until I heard it but I listened to Reed last night on Webbs show and it wasn't even brought up.

Today on the Fan it is all they are talking about.

Ed shouldn't have made those statements but at the same time they are not as bas as people are making them out to be.

I am sure this has been dead and buried as of this morning between Ed and Joe. Time to move on and focus on the Pats.

IMHO, both Reed and Flacco need to stop talking to the media for as long as we are in the playoffs this year.

Flacco starts talking about other quarterbacks getting respect and the media spins it into "Joe Flacco thinks he's an elite quarterback but no one is noticing."

And then Reed says that it didn't look like Joe had control of the offense and it turns into "Ed Reed hates Joe Flacco and would prefer to have Mark Sanchez as his QB."

Whenever you answer a question in a way that the context can be changed, the media will go ahead and make you wish you hadn't said anything at all. Just stop answering these stupid questions that the media tries to use to bolster it's ratings, and everything will be okay.

You give too much credit to "analyst" ... Just like politics, if you're simple enough... The media will tell you what you believe, if you let it.

who are you? What have you done with IAL? We will hunt you down and find you if you if you dont give us IAL back!

But yeah, seriously, people are feeding right into this nonsense...especially if, like you said, this is specifically about this one game.

This is a bragging thread now. A shot at all the people saying that Flacco is playing well, particularly in that last game. Pathetic post? It obviously served its purpose, it got your attention, and made you show your ignorance in the education of Miami University students.
Pathetic. lmao
Your ignorance, it's all over your face. It's obvious you missed the point, only athletes or those who watch sports call it "The U" . To scholars, it's certainly not called "The U".... Which brings me back to my first point, the Majority of NFL players aren't making millions with their brains, more like in spite of their brains.

I love how ESPN cut out the part of Ed's quote where he said "It's like he's being told to throw at one target" (not exact quote but it was like that). I see it as more of a dig at Cam than Joe.

Shhh. Don't let this get out. We saw what happened. Hopefully the Patriots' D listens to the media and doesn't take this offense seriously. However poorly it's played, the fact remains that we've played 2 passing defenses ranked 20th or below this entire season, Arizona and St. Louis. We saw what the passing game was able to do there. New England is close to dead last in the league in passing defense, that game against Denver was an illusion, IMO. But if the media keeps wanting to play the disrespect card and downplay what the Ravens have done this season, the better it is for us.

Not really? He broke up a passes against the Texans and 9ers, broke up another agaisnt the Bengals and intercepted another. And for all the missed tackles people want to focus on, he still made his fair share. And even though some people seem to believe so, splash plays aren't the only way you can impact a game. We'll never know how many times QBs hesitated or completely failed to pull the trigger on passes because they saw #20 down-field.

This obviously wasn't Ed's best season, but saying he took a 15-week vacation is a joke.

He was asked a question and answered it. Him having a relatively down year doesn't mean he should have pretended the offense played well on Sunday.

What exactly is the team dealing with? Some writers have taken his quotes and spun it. And the "analysts" on ESPN are dissecting them like only they can. Is that honestly going to affect how the team plays against the Pats?

uh yeah, instead of focusing this morning on tape and film session harbaugh, reed and joe had to rehearse what to say to the media.to play damage control and now have to continue to answer questions for the rest of the week about this mess. You dont need unwanted press, plain and simple. This isnt the time for team mates critique each other in the press. Do that stuf in house between each other.

If your coworker tells someone at work you arent doing your job properly and in turn gets back to your boss and other people. They start asking you questions non stop and making you half to deal with that instead of getting your job done and ultimately affect your job performance. Smaller scale but same thing.

Nothing that Ed said that was incorrect or divisive for this team. I was reading this story on NFL.com and they were trying to compare this to Holmes and saying this was just what got the Jets into such a mess. Thats a load of hog wash! Ed is 100% in saying that Joe looked rattled and did not play as well as he is capeable of playing. He also said the O-Line did not block nearly as well as Joe needs them too. This also 100% true. Houston is a great defensive front, and if I remember correctly they were punishing Joe last time they played too. People have got to stop freaking out every time someone has an honest assesment of the state of the team. Pointing out flaws, or ways we need to improve inorder to take that next step, is not the same as pouting and walking off on the team. Ed wants a chance at that ring, and the only way to do that is for the Ravens to play like the complete team that they are/should be. Thats the only way we win this game. This cannot be a lopsided performance and expect to escape NE with a win. We need the Oline to play well, we need Joe to play well, and we need Rice to play well.

Reeds 100% right. He wasn't critizing Flacco. He wants him to play to the level that both players believe can do in this upcomming matchup. Flacco knows he has to play the Patriots with better execution. That also should go with O-line and Receivers who has been nothing less than dissapointing(especially Oher & Mckinnie on O-line, and Ed Dickson, Lee Evans on receiver side).

Well see, the problem is Ed did mention the oline and receivers as having to step up. But nobody in the media wants to remember this.

It's all a media ploy to stir the pot. No Ravens fan should believe that a veteran such as Reed is anything resembling of a cancer that would cause problems. If the article is read in full, you'll see that he has full confidence in Flacco. Call it constructive criticism.

Wow. I know it has been noted already in this thread, but I cannot believe how much the media twisted Reed's words.

First off he said the whole team needs to play better which cannot be denied (dropped interceptions, fumbles, dropped passes, goal line stuff, o line getting beat). He talks about the team as a whole and by no means does he call out Joe Flacco. He states what is obvious, the Ravens are gonna have to play their best to beat the Pats. He says Flacco and the O line need to play better but he also expresses his confidence in Joe. Even by listening to his tone of voice you can tell he's not attacking anyone. Whoever in this thread thinks that is the case, you really have to listen to it again, it seems your trying to stir the pot for no reason. smh

Its quite asinine. During their press conference, the press kept pushing at the issue trying to make it a bigger deal than it is. Joe and Ed have talked it over. The team is fine. I wish the media would stop making this into a bigger deal than what it is. Its nothing.

This team isn't unraveling. That couldn't be any further from the truth.

I love this. Bring on the disrespect. Headlines Wednesday "Ravens don't trust Flacco", "Reed thinks Flacco can't the the job done". Thursday "Flacco under fire". Friday "Will Flacco crumble under the pressure?". Saturday "For Flacco, it's win it all or lose everything". Sunday "Judgement Day: Flacco must put up or shut up". Monday "Ravens Shock Patriots to Punch Ticket to Superbowl XLVI".

Your exactly right! The media is turning this thing into a circus because they want drama. Its a whole lot of overblown bull crap. The entire offense needs to step up, and thats what Reed said. Its just selective hearing prevails.

Haha, pathetic, sensationalistic sports "media" completely ignoring what was said and jumping to their own moronic conclusions.

Every "writer" who has "written" an article on this should be fired. Sports "journalism" is quickly becoming complete fiction.

DING! DING!DING! Give that man a cigar. Saw it the same way. If you give it a good listen, the tenor of his responses regarding Joe were more like "he was put in a bad spot by Cam", not "he just didn't do the job".
