MERGED: Ed Reed Comments On Flacco

345 posts in this topic

The offensive line consists of more than one person. If the line can't hold up their part, then how could any QB expect to get anything done? Did anyone happen to notice this past weekend, the elite QB's who got their butts kicked?? Brees and Rodgers got beat by some very good defenses, and their own offensive lines. Was anyone paying attention to how much time Eli Manning was afforded by his offensive line??? He had enough time to eat lunch and dinner on some of those plays. A lot of times Joe Flacco did not have to time to hand off the ball, let alone pass it. He may not be perfect but this season he's one ahead of Brees, & Rodgers. And in his past seasons he's done a better job than any other QB in Ravens history, and other "elites". So lets stop the blame and bashing and support our team, every member of our team till the fat lady sings, then we can go back and correct the problems. Joe Flacco is the best thing that ever happened to the Raven's offensive line, so give him a break.

Reed and Flacco exchange words (playfully) at practice

Reed had criticized Flacco earlier in the week; the two pretended to argue for the media Thursday

By Matt Vensel, Baltimore Sun
5:45 p.m. EST, January 19, 2012

With the media assembled -- their cameras rolling and notepads being scribbled upon -- beside the primary entrance inside the Ravens’ indoor practice facility, quarterback Joe Flacco and Pro Bowl free safety Ed Reed walked out together for the start of Thursday afternoon’s practice.

Flacco and his backup, Tyrod Taylor, turned left. Reed and veteran linebacker Jarret Johnson veered to the right. When Flacco and Reed got about the length of a first down apart, Flacco turned and uttered two words to the teammate who publicly criticized his offense this week.

“[Bleep] you,” the quarterback said playfully.

“[Bleep] me?” Reed responded. “[Bleep] you.”

Reed called out Cam more than anyone. He made a comment somewhere along the lines of Joe looking like he was throwing to people that he was told too.. which made me think Cam.

Just now on Sound FX, the winning catch by T. Smith in Pitt.. Cam tells him.. "You knew I would come back to you."
I know that could just mean that Smith was the 1st target on the route.. but I wouldn't be surprised if Cam tries controls the passing game to that extent.

i didn't have a problem with what ed said. here's why:

-ed stated that joe looked rattled...then he said why....because the defense had a lot of guys in the box in his face and getting to him - that was true! the o-line folded like a deck of cards nearly the entire game

-ed stated that he thought joe could've got rid of the ball - joe did hold the ball too long in the pocket at times

-ed stated that he didn't know how much of the play calling that joe could've audibled into or anything or checks - we already know how cam feels about audibling-it's overated

-ed stated that it didn't look like he (joe) had a hold on the offense of times past....then he said why not...it was kinda like "they" (cam) were telling him to throw the ball to certain guys - we all know that cam plays ultra conservative and limits joe

-ed then said..."he (joe) can't play like that!" - that's true! flacco has to be unleashed to step into his full potential as a qb

imo...Ed was pretty much saying that flacco's hands were tied in that game vs the texans and now that the Ravens have advanced to the AFCCG....flacco has to be allowed to spread his wings. to me....Ed was "indirectly" calling out Cam Cameron!!

How many times do we play teams from these areas? Maybe 1 time a year? So yea the fans are uninformed because they get to watch ESPN and hear what Joe Flacco did not really watch the games.
Yeah so We didn't play the Eagles at all this year so myself and everyone else not from Philly probably didn't watch their games at all so everyone not from Philly is soooo uninformed about that team. YOU better never talk about another team ever cause you have no idea what your talking about unless your from that area. Yeah your definantly right.

You talking about the same people that said Matt Ryan, Freeman and Bradford are light years ahead of Flacco? The same people who call Ray Lewis and Ed Reed over the hill and our defense is "old".
What are you talking about, you have no idea who im talking to or what they have said? I tell you that just about everyone ive discussed football with who is from another area doesnt consider Joe Flacco good; and you ASSUME they also have said Reed and Ray are to old. Well Fly you no what happens when you assume

Actually I lived in DC for 5 years, and moved to Philly recently. Everyone in DC wanted Flacco last year - they were like "If we had him we'd have won the division this year." Totally serious here, they believed, at least then, that Flacco was a better quarterback than Eli Manning or Michael Vick, and this is a lot of people I knew in DC. And there have been a ton of radio stations in Philly where I live that have made the following statement "Look at the Ravens' quarterback. He's not flashy like Vick, but he's tough, makes plays, and wins games." I'm just reporting to you what I here on the radio stations every day on my way to class.
Ok well im sure there are alot of people saying that to, but that hasn't been my experience, especially now that im living outside of DC in Virginia, I get a lot of crap about Flacco, in fact I cant remember the last time someone here said anything positive to me about Flacco. And there really isn't much to say about Flacco his stats this season were pedestrian at best, and besides the Steelers game Flacco hasn't proven he can win games without the support of a good running game and defense.

You said "people outside of Baltimore". Maybe the small circle of people you personally interact with say differently; but it is common knowledge what the general consensus is of Flacco.

But the point was, it doesn't matter what those people think, because those are the same people that were telling us how amazing Freeman and Bradford are, how old our defense is, etc. They have no credibility.

Well, his point is still a valid one. Most people don't know jack about other teams, unless it's a Pro Bowler. Most people just repeat what they hear, without any real knowledge of what they are talking about, when it comes to other teams.

I'm not sure what you've heard, the only thing I can tell you is that last year, when I was in DC, people were like "Man, if the Redskins had your QB we'd own the division". They probably aren't saying that now this season, but fans are fickle - I'm sure if he lights it up next year they'll go back to saying it. I don't think any quarterback in this league under the age of 30 with the exception of Aaron Rodgers has proven that they can win without having a good defense. Brady can, Manning can, Brees can, but they've been in the league a decade. Eli was all flukey until this year, and his defense was 7th in the league last year and like top 10 all the time until this year. Heck, Green Bay, Miami, Minnesota, and New Orleans all finished with statistically better defenses than we did last season. Now they are among the poorest in the league, and Minni and Miami were aweful this season, and when Green Bay and New Orleans went up against better teams (the Giants weren't even a good defense this season, don't know where their performance last weekend came from) they lost. Tom Brady hasn't won anything since he became the best in the league in 2007. Before that, he was talked about like Flacco is, a game manager who was on a great team with a great defense.

But I will point out Flacco beat the Steelers twice and came back against the Cardinals this season - I'd say he's proven enough to me that he has the talent to get the job done. I'm sorry you feel differently, but I feel like a lot of people are placing unreasonable expectations on him. He's in his fourth year in the league - guys historically don't play their best ball until their late 20's/early 30's when they learn both their offense and their opponents' defenses. It was true for Brady, true for John Elway, true for Joe Montana, for Drew Brees, Peyton Manning - look at their numbers. They all got much better in their 6th, 7th, 8th years in the league. Why don't you think Joe could do the same?

This whole topic is one of the reason I hate the mediots. NONE of it will affect the Ravens a bit. The Pats certainly couldn't give a crap. ONLY for the mediots gain, They have gotten 3 days of easy copy and talking points. For the fans, its meant 17 pages of commentary. Shakespeare said it best "much ado about NOTHING"

Hey man, we're bored, there's nothing else to talk about, and in case you haven't noticed, anything with Flacco's name is like wildfire around here. Almost everyone on the team there's a universal opinion on them or nobody cares i.e. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Ray Rice are studs. Billy Cundiff or Matt Birk, we only talk about them when they screw up. But Joe - half the board loves him, half the board hates him. And this year he's been like Two Face - supporters point to the great division games he had, the way he brought the team back against Arizona, etc. Detractors point to Jacksonville, Seattle, San Diego, claim that he did nothing at all in the team's playoff win. It's a never-ending debate, which side are you on, lines are drawn in the sand. Nobody questions the talent of Ray Rice. Nobody says Terrell Suggs is an average player or a poor player helped out by a great team around him. Nobody else, it can be said of, will one poster say "look at the receivers this guy has and he can't get the job done" while another will say "He has one guy who he threw to more than 5 times last year on the roster - he lost his security blankets in Mason and Heap, and now he's throwing to Dickson, Pitta, Evans, Smith, guys he has very little chemistry with." An argument can be made for either side, which is why Flacco is such a hot topic around here.

Do you really think that professionals need to be publicly criticised in order to be motivated, especially heading into the AFCCG on a national stage?
