The Recievers Bailed Joe Out?

138 posts in this topic

I know... I know... another thread on the media bias against Joe. You're probably all tired of it, but this is probably the stupidest thing I've heard in a while. I keep seeing people on EPSN, NFL.com, NFL Network and even the Baltimore Sun saying "The recievers bailed Joe Flacco out today." Elliot Harrison said, "Joe Flacco had another so-so game against Houston. He was bailed out by two great catches -- thank you, Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans -- and a defense that forced four turnovers. The two touchdown passes were nice, but if you take out the Boldin and Evans grabs, you're looking at a Flacco line of 12-for-25 for 118 yards."
I really don't understand how people can pretend to know what they are talking about when they really don't. If you watched the game wouldn't you see the obvious drops the recievers had all day long? Do people watch the games or just the highlights and then decide to bash Joe?

I agree with Harrison said to a degree. He should of acknowledged the drops and poor protection in his summary but without those amazing catches (heck one of them should of been overruled by a challenge, thanks Kubiak) we would of had trouble moving the chains and getting field goals.

Jamison Hensley is the only person outside Baltimore who I've seen point out the drops.

I love that when Calvin Johnson makes a ridiculous catch, it's because of Stafford, but when Flacco's receivers do it, they're "bailing him out."

Exactly, these same people gush all over Stafford and Dalton who have a true #1 to catch anything remotely close to them.

Just decide to bash Joe. Let's forget people can't catch or that Cam's long-winded route combinations is getting my QB murdered. Just let the haters hate. Once he wins the Superbowl they'll have no choice but to kneel.

Yeah right. How many games did we watch this weekend with TEs and WRs making spectacular plays? How many drops did our guys have?

I watch Jimmy Graham go after balls and bring them down. I saw Ed get a ball thrown right to him and dropped it.

I also saw Nicks go get balls in traffic. I also saw a ball thrown to Torrey down the sideline that was dropped.

The receivers bailed Joe out? They bailed themselves out - if they hadn't dropped the 5 easy balls earlier in the game, it might have even been that close. Lee Evans had like what, one catch on 2 targets? That's bailing a guy out?

And it's not even the fact that they let Joe down a lot. The real point is receivers are supposed to make plays, that is why you pay them in the first place. Does Joe have to throw the ball and then run out there and catch it with no O-line for him to get respect? They honestly hold him to higher standards than every other QB in the league for some reason.

If we didn't drop those 5 passes then we may not have needed those two passes. The WRs had 5 drops. They made 2 big grabs. 5>2

He was only targeted once.

Regardless, anyone who came away from yesterday's game crediting the receivers based off two great catches is a fool.

It's just semantics but weren't two of the drops on Dickson and Pitta?

Those two catches doesn't outweigh that balls were still being dropped even though Flacco was on the money with the throws.

Dickson had one, Pitta had two targets. He caught one, but the other was overthrown.

You don't include Dickson and Pitta as receivers? Regardless, there were 5 badly dropped passes.

Joe will never get credit. The Texans have an amazing defense, their d-line was absolutely destroying us. And the way our defense was playing, he didn't wanna throw a pick. Glad we recovered his fumble though, that was his only real mistake.

I've come to embrace these moronic Flacco haters. Like the saying goes, you cant fix stupid, and there are countless stupid fans and reporters that continue to criticise Joe at every opportunity.
You can't fight this much idiocy. All you can do is sit back and wait for the idiots to get lost in their thoughts and forget what they were complaining about.

Agreed on all points. The O-line couldn't hold up worth anything and Joe was smashed as quick as the ball was snapped. I wish our receivers could make a better attempt to get open. Run your routes, but if you are obviously not open come back to the ball or change direction. I hope that catch gave Lee some confidence because he needed it. Everything doesn't need to be for 15 yards, but 5 here and 7 there get you first downs. A better performance on the offense and the D need to get to the quarterback. Brady doesn't throw that many interceptions, so pressure is key. Joe is my guy for sure.

Good to know. ESPN has four targets for him. I guess only two were really in his vicinity.

That's why I mentioned semantics. They're TEs.

Wish I could see video of the drops.

Joe sucks because he needed his receivers to catch the ball. The list of excuses is running thin.
Yeah, Brady and Rodgers catch their own 30 yard back shoulder fades. Flacco is a poser.

I actually want to see them too. I really, really hate Deion Sanders right now.

Recievers are supposed to make plays on the ball...they are called PLAYMAKERS for a reason...

Joe made some good throws over the back shoulder, he had a deep 40 yard pass that was plopped into Torrey's hands that was dropped, and he threw some good passes in the out.

The out pass is one of the hardest throws to make in football because you have to hit your reciever right in the hands where only he can catch it and it has to be just barely near the sideline. Joe did a good job on both throws to Boldin and Evans where only they could catch it and guess what...they made a PLAY on it because they are WRs and that's what they are supposed to do..

Loved Deion on the field but as an "analyst", he's just a character that praises DBs whenever he can and random players he likes. Mayock, Faulk and a few others are the only objective analysts on NFLN.

If there is one thing I am truly sick of, it is people trashing Flacco all of the time, claiming that recievers are the only reason we survive. Bull. FIrst off, he had some great throws that were dropped. Second, if Flacco were that bad, recievers wouldnt be able to bail him out. WRs can only catch what they can reach, and the fact that they made catches is testament to Joe, not just them.

Yea, don't listen to Deion. On one hand he's busting on Flacco and ignoring the drops while, on the other hand, he picks the Ravens to go to the Superbowl. He just talks. Mayock, Faulk, La Confora, etc .... those are the guys to at least give an ear.

The drops were big and what was most aggravating is that they were all throws where Joe hit his receivers in the hands. That was really the tale of two of the games yesterday, drops. The Ravens, because of their defense, were able to pull out a win despite them. The Packers (with 8 drops) couldn't; bet sitting Rodgers after week 16 doesn't sound like such a good idea now.

That can't happen next week. The defense is going to need to have time to collect itself because they are going to have to go after Brady. You can't cover all his weapons all game, there are too many with his accuracy. You're going to have to get after him. If the offense is going 3 and out because of drops and stupid play calls it's going to be a long day.

Does that "fan average thing" on NFL.com come from people who get on the site and vote? They gave Flacco 3.5 stars, anyone know how it works?

Yea .. average fan by giving him stars under his photo. 3.5 is pretty good 'cause you know that there are people giving him 1 star; especially Browns and Steelers fans. :D

Sweet. Well that shows you what the average fan knows about football vs. Deion Sanders. I know I keep bringing him up, but c'mon the guy was a Raven for a little while. His quarterback was absolute garbage, absolute garbage his first season in the league, and now he's in the hall of fame.
