This Team Finds A Way To Win

24 posts in this topic

We've been called inconsistent, slow, old, overrated and unreliable. That the Ravens win ugly. But the facts are right there, we win football games. That's what this current incarnation of the Ravens do.

4 Playoffs in 4 Seasons
2 AFCCG
44-20 regular season (4 years).

So people can say what they want. We don't have an elite QB. The Ravens defense is old. etc. They can say we can't stop Gronkowski. But I know one thing, we can find a way to win if we don't.

Just look at our season. Joe made a great drive to help us beat Pittsburgh (QB Play), Billy made 5 FGs for a win against the Texans (ST), Ray Rice Steamrolled teams to help us win against the Browns, Bengals and Indy(RB), Defensive pressure helped us win against the 49ers, Forcing Turnovers helped us win against the Texans.

Sure we don't have a guy like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers who win ALL of their games. But we have a TEAM who help each other win when its needed.

Tebow may have the 'magic touch'. But the Ravens have the 'winning touch.'

this team needs to "find-a-way-to-win" 2 more times.

I have faith that this team will find a way to win. It might be another 'Ugly' win. But I think this team can get it done. They've been doing it all year.

It sucks that our team doesn't fire on all cylinders that often. If they did that, we'd be unstoppable. But even without firing on all cylinders we still win 'ugly'.

This is exactly correct.

I sat during and after the game yesterday listening to my sons talk about the horrible line play, dropped passes, feeble play calling, etc., etc., etc. and it sounded like we were losing/had lost he game! I finally said, look, give it a break. We won the game and are now in the AFC Championship with a chance at Festivus Maximus! Let's be happy and enjoy the moment.

The Ravens as a whole understand they have not put their best product on the field all year, save for a couple of games. And they know they are capable of a much better performance. And that is what is most encouraging to me. If we can just get everything together in the next two games, we will win going away. If not, who knows? Maybe the 2011 Ravens will still find a way to win. One thing is for sure; They show a lot of heart and determination and that in itself is a pleasure to watch and support.

And on a side note; Two of those "elite" QBs are now getting their golf clubs out of the closet. I say we make it a threesome and send tommy south to play with them!

That is what is blowing my mind.

You tell any team that their O-Line will be like a turnstile, your receivers will drop 5 balls, your stud RB (which you rely on) will only have 60 yards, your defense allowed a 132 yard rusher. They will all say that its a L in the loss column.

Not the Ravens. They forced turnovers which proved to be the difference. That single facet really changed the outlook of the game.

It's funny really. Outsiders watch our performance yesterday and call us "lucky".

Those of us who see the Ravens regularly watch that game and know we played well below par and still managed to win. That is important to note.

We didn't play our best football and still won.

This could be a blessing twofold:

The Patriots may well feel a litte too confident coming into that game next week.

plus

Playing poorly should have our coaches and players focusing extra hard this week.

I agree. Just the way the weekend went I can see how Pats and their fans will be over confident (I'm fine with them feeling that way). The Pats blew out the Broncos, the Ravens struggled with the Texans. Even non-Ravens fans in my office commented that the Ravens can't score points and beat the Pats.

But this Ravens will do 'enough' to give themselves a shot in this game. They always do.

And I agree on your last point. After our team puts up a clunker, they usually play very well. We played a pretty bad game yesterday and still won. Now its time to play a good game.

i am always cool with a "W." especially in the playoffs. however, i can't lie...i hate how we look at times in obtaining that "W." to me...that type of "ugly" gameplay eventually catches up with you. i believe that the Ravens will beat the patriots BUT to do so, Cam is gonna have to switch up and change up his gameplan.....something that he's been unwilling to do all season long. what just baffles me is the fact that the Ravens offense can't keep scoring in the 2nd half of games. they come out blazing...score a few TDs in the 1st half and then in the 2nd half....absolutely nothing! maybe a fg. what i am hoping for is an "upset" (for the odds makers and media analysts) in the manner of the packers and saints and that the patriots will be the next "high-powered" offense to fall at the hands of the Ravens.

No doubt. I also hate all the ugly wins. Not only that, but the ugly wins are extremely nerve wrecking. The Ravens do like to do that to us fans. They never put teams away. They always allow teams to claw back in.

But it could be worse. We could be like Packers fans right now.

A win is a Win no matter how it comes. As i have said in other threads its the way we are built. I'm happy with our team without the high powered Offense that most of us would like to see. However i am not willing to give up our Dominate Defence for it. "Only so much money to spread around" Do we need to improve in certain areas? Yes we do. Will we improve? I believe we will. Remember we have 2 second yr TE's, a rookie WR, a Vet WR that has been hurt all year and a patch work O-Line. All those pieces will improve next year. With all that we are still in the AFC Champ. Game. At the risk of turning this into another Flacco debate, Flacco will never develop into a Rogers type QB while he's here because we don't need him to be. He does exactly would he should in this Offense. He doesn't get the throws needed to develop those skills. We are built to compete in the AFC North. We win in the AFC North. We can't get to the Super Bowl if we don't compete in our Divison. So while we may be disappointed some games on how one part or another of our team performs as a hole i think it's a well balanced complete Football Team we can all be proud of.

I feel like going to the AFCCG isn't a big deal to people on here. I've been happy and smiling since we won yesterday!

I said this to everybody yesterday. I am really happy that we beat the Texans, won at home and got to the AFCCG. I still want to get to the Super Bowl. But I am proud of this team no matter what now. A loss yesterday and I couldn't say the same thing.

If our offense struggles again next week I think it will be more than cam that gets let go. I'd replace the offensive line coach and receiver coaches as well.

But this is a Ray Rice game coming up. Feed him the rock and we win.

Bill always likes to aim at shutting down one thing the other team does well. That one guy will be Ray Rice. But I think he will still get it done. Which will open up PA.

But that's the nice thing about the Ravens. You can shut down one facet of our game and yet we still find a way to win.

You're right on the money. The vaunted Saints and Packers were both beat by teams that don't have "star" power but play well together. I'm not a Giants fan. But I would watch them over the Saints any day. Baltimore is the same way.

I'm very thankful for the fact that we have won consistently despite winning 'ugly' a lot of the time, but I think the fact that we can see the potential in this team to play better and to dominate people is why people (myself included) often complain more than we show appreciation.

I agree. If we hinder Tom Brady enough, what else do the Pats have to win? Not much. If you hinder Ray Rice, what else do the Ravens have to win? Defense,Flacco, even the Punter, etc.

An ugly win is a win. The Saints lost gracefully and they still have to watch us on TV next week. When you're in the playoffs you play the best of the best. There is no shame in the way we won.

The team we just played outclasses NE in every area except QB and TE.

This pretty much sums up everything about the Ravens nation since Harbaugh, Joe and Rice coming to town; Like Harbs says it all the time before and after he's hired "#1 Team, #2, Team, and #3 team"

If one of our cylinder fails to funtion, the other one will make up for it; we will assist each other when bad times come to win football game.

That is why we are one of the most 'complete' teams. And look at the teams that are in the playoffs. 3 of the 4 teams are complete teams over the one man army teams. 49ers and Giants can win with different aspects of the game.

Our inconsistency has really been the bigger issue.

Green Bay's loss to New York proves that even the most elite QB in the current season can be manhandled in their house. Ravens can definately do the same to Brady and his bunch. Go Ravens, emphasize on protecting Flacco, using Rice, pressuring Brady and covering their recievers. Anyways, I'm looking forward to Harbowl 2=The Super Harbowl.
