Matchup Problems Next Week.

13 posts in this topic

Obviously, the first adjustment needed to be made is on offense. That performance will not get it done next week against an explosive New England team that will put up points. The question that has been plaguing me all day is how we are going to matchup physically against Gronkowski and hernandez. Obviously putting A linebacker on their tight ends is a huge mismatch. Would putting the Bigger, Physical Smith on Gronkowski or hernandez be a possible solution to neutralizing the tight ends? You most certainly have to double Gronkowski with Reed and another player. What are your thoughts? How can we slow down the play of their very explosive tight ends?

I say we put Jimmy smith on Gronk, Webb on Welker, and Cary on Branch.
Play alot of zone defense, Make them beat us running the ball.
We have to put pressure on Brady and Im confident Suggs will! He steps up vs Steelers and Patriots

I agree with everything you just said, except for playing a lot of Zone defense. The elite quarterbacks like Brady, Brees, and Rodgers always carve up zone defenses. You have to man up and cause pressure to beat them.

web on welker
smith on gronk

The most important thing of all is to get pressure on brady to make sure he doesnt sit back there and carve us up. we have to hit him and hit him alot to make him want to get rid of it right away. The only way to beat brady is bring the pressure

We absolutely can not play zone defense against Tom Brady, he picks it apart every time. Welker is a YAC guy more than anything, and is a product of the system more than anything. I think the defense can handle him. The matchup I'm worried about is Gronk against whoever.

Probably going to bracket him with a LB and safety help. Then you have to account for Aaron Hernandez who is a beast himself..

LBs must play disciplined football and the DL must get a strong rush.

Man press to jam up the timming...and if you play zone to break it up disguise and drop 8 into coverage and hope 3 man rush works.

Jimmy Smith on Gronk? Am I the only one that thinks that Gronk would completely demolish Smith every time? Maybe if we put Jimmy Smith on him with Ed Reed over the top of Smith can try and jump every route on Gronk.

The problem is I don't think Webb can cover Gronk either. We saw how our guys did against VJ, Floyd, and the Chargers' receivers. The Patriots' tight ends are basically the same thing. The best bet would to somehow keep hitting Brady.

I think the best solution for Gronk would be put a linebacker underneath with a safety over the top. So anything he does catch, the safety can either make the tackle or slow him down enough for the linebacker to clean up.

Smith would be better suited for Hernandez I think.
