O Line

80 posts in this topic

Ladarius Webb was phenomenal though, and Ed Reed stepped up big time. The secondary was the reason we won the game. Both lines were pathetic. What's up with Ngata I ask? He get paid big time and decide to stop playing or what? He hasn't done anything in weeks.

Horrible performance by the offensive line. They stunk it up so bad. I agree Ray Rice should get all those watches back and get his money back. A bunch of lazy players I tell ya. Did you see that play where Yanda stepped to the side to allowed Flacco to get sacked. He should be fined and penalized by the the head coach and owner for that.

So the offensive line played great? Is that what you are saying? Yanda didn't just get brushed by a defenders hand and knocked out of the way? Were you watching the game? THey showed a close up of it. It wasn't like the player knocked him forcefully to the side.

The offensive line didn't play good at all, but the rest of that post was beyond asinine. Yanda let Flacco get sacked? Rice should give the watches back? And they're lazy? And Yanda should be fined and penalized? That was a joke.

I think our line needs a fire under their butts after playing like that. They were a joke. THey didn't run block and they didn't pass block, but Flacco, as usual, will get all the blame for everything even though he was under fierce pressure all game. They played like this in New England, that game will be a blow out for sure, much like the Denver New England Game. I don't know about fines or being penalized, but something has to be done after such a horrid performance. It's not the first time they've played so dreadful. It's like they're not getting the hint that in the playoffs you go home after just one loss. The defense saved them this game, but I don't expect the defense to be able to do the same thing against Brady and force that many turnovers. THe offense needs to step up and stop playing like they're on vacation. This must start with the offensive line doing their job and not looking like a JV squad. If your in the playoffs I agree you play your butts off and may the best team win. What I saw from the Ravens offensive line though was a lack of effort, which should be unacceptable by any professional team. Look, I'm just letting off steam. I'm glad the Ravens have gone as far as they have, but witnessing what we saw in that game today was painful to watch. Thanks goes to the secondary for stepping up big time.
Why? Cause he didn't get a sack? He actually did a great job containing Foster on his side and tackled him on third down on 2 occassions. He was also the only one getting close to Yates.
132 yds, 1 TD = NOT contained on either side.

How can you even say that? 132 yards doesn't mean he got them on both sides. he got the majority of his yards up the middle and offtackle on JJ's side. Suggs did a pretty good job on his side. He had two key 3rd down stops on Foster.

As someone who wanted JJ Watt and Brooks Reed as the first 2 picks by the Ravens , it hurt watching today as they each got 2.5 sacks lol

We need offensive line help but we also need our own Von Miller to our Elvis Dumervil

LOL, you must get alerts to your phone.

I didn't go to an extreme and say get rid of the whole D line or something equally irrational. I did point out the fact that both our O and D lines got beat today. I don't know why you got sensative when I called out Suggs along with the entire D line, but the fact is the entire D line played poorly. NO pressure what so ever was put on Yates, a rookie QB, in the most pressure packed game he's ever played. We should of showed him looks that had his head spinning in circles. He threw three picks with zero pressure. We should of made him look like Tebow 2.0. Suggs box score was 6 total tackles, a below par box score. Not that Suggs was on the left side (from the O perspective) every play, but Foster went Left Tackle or wider 10 times for 70 yds to include a 28 yd romp down the sideline. Check the play-by-play. He ran left, right, and middle.

the line play was very bad. but it does´t help when joe has to hold the ball for such a long time because NOBODY is getting open. also does´t help when my 10 year old little sister can predict the plays that are called from our sideline...

yesterday showed bright and clear that cam isn´t able to do it. bolding always going deep? one time he comes across the middle he gets a first down easily. i know those two deep throws on him where good and all but that is not how you use him. our tight ends didn´t do anything too.

i am glad that we got the hard way in the playoffs. that shows what we still need to change. but if i where the pats and was sitting in front of the TV watching this ravens defense i would be very scared right now!!!

Some of the plays were pretty bad but i for one cant put all the blame on. It was either our O line messing up or it was the WRers dropping gimmie balls, i know the Ball Flacco threw to Dickson was a super laser but he still should have caught it. For the most part , Flacco was looking down the field the whole time , even in serious pressure.

I do not blame Cam for the entire game except for the last field goal drive. Why would he run passing plays the last two plays before the field goal. Up until that point he was doing a great job of running out the clock. Then he got greedy and could have cost us the game...and might have even cost us Reed by leaving too much time on the clock. Worse, what if Flacco got sacked again for another eight yard loss and put us out of field goal range.

This game is an anomaly from Yanda, he's one of the best in the league. It happens.
I agree its an anomoly. Just look at what he did for us against Cincy with bruised ribs and just after having surgery.

There's been a lot of bad talking about the offensive line today and last night, I'd like to point out that this was probably the first time all season they allowed 5 sacks in a game. This was an anomaly. They will bounce back. No one on that line is going anywhere except Birk and McKinnie *potentially* retiring. They are not a "mediocre" line, as so many have said. They played a poor game. That was as bad as it gets. It was awful. But, it was an anomaly, and the majority of you are acting like thats been the story all season.

Profootballfocus said Oher had a terrible day and McKinnie had a great one. I know I saw Yanda with some trouble as well, especially considering both Watt and Reed (2.5 sacks apiece) were primarily on that side. That made me think this might be due to Marshall playing though that injury he needed surgery for. I thought the 2 weeks would be enough, but maybe it wasn't. This is my best guess as to why the O-line fell apart. After all, if one side of the line is weak, the other side falls too as Joe has to step away from pressure from the right and into pressure from the left.

Any thoughts on this?

Do you know which leg Yanda had the surgery on? I do have a theory about his performance.

No I don't, but for anyone looking for a quick overview of the injury, it's here: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-01-11/sports/bal-yanda-reveals-he-had-calf-surgery-in-december-20120111_1_marshal-yanda-leg-compartment-syndrome

This wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened this game. Why else would their top rusher (Barwin) do little against us and their two rookies do all the damage?

Everybody needs to calm down and realize that the Ravens just beat a team with the #2 defense in the NFL. It was promised to be a tough game and that was no lie, but we made it though. Our team is one of the last four teams in this tornament, lets not forget that. The Ravens have an edge in this next game because the Patriots are #31 in defense. We can take this and we will.

The article says the injury was in his lower right leg. When in pass protection, thats where alot of your balance and power comes from. I know in both sacks he was beat on the outside with a speed rush, so I think it's possible that his leg is not full speed and doesn't have all of its power back yet. With a bum leg, he's probably not as quick or powerful in pass protection or run blocking.

Their top rusher Barwin is a better speed rusher, and isn't that big, so its possible that McKinnie just swallowed him

Oher always has issues with speed rushers, which explains why Brooks Reed dominated him. Reed is a great up and coming speed rusher.

Yanda has had minor issues with quicker interior linemen, and his injury certainly does not help with that.

I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly, BUT you fail to take into account how good that Texans front is. VERY VERY good. The line had a bad game, straight up. I'm sure it'll be addressed. If they play anything close to their potential (which will be the case this Sunday) they should have no problem with NE's front, which isn't even close to Houston's
