I have also considered starting the series; I've heard nothing but good things about the show. I can't tell you how good this show is, but I have seen other HBO series such as The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire and can vouch for how good they are.

I haven't started watching it yet (still trying to finish the Sopranos), but I haven't heard from a person yet who didn't absolutely love the Wire, so I say finish the 1st season before deciding if you want to keep watching.

Good show. Obviously most of us here could be biased. I didn't watch the originaL airing. Bit went back later and watched them all.

And what's the deal with seasons being called series in the UK? Who are these people?
[/quote]

Are there any other Countries that called it a "season"? Because I know It's not just the UK that's calls it a series. Just saying! :P

Keep watching - you'll get hooked in the end!! I was so devastated when it ended but all good things come to an end I guess... Greatest TV show ever and I'm not even biased! Ok maybe just a bit....

Just out of curiosity, how far are you into the Sopranos?

I've watched The Wire and The Sopranos a couple times over and they are both excellent series. They are both tied as the best TV dramas I've seen personally.

The Wire shows you both sides of the coin with the cops and the streets. Really gets down and gritty and gives you a different feeling than typical cop dramas because you see prespective through the eyes of the good and bad guys. It is slow moving so it can feel like it drags on at times with a lot of talking, but still has intense moments every episode and "$&#* just got REAL" moments.

The Wire:
Season 1: Great
Season 2: Pretty good
Season 3: Amazing
Season 4: Intense
Season 5: Alright
