X Factors Vs. Texans

28 posts in this topic

You can call them keys to victory, you can say what is/isn't in our favor, but what do you guys think we will/need to do well in order to get the win?

For me, my biggest X factor is health. When we played the Texans the first time, we were without Lee Evans and Ben Grubbs. Now they're both back. Ray is expected back, and Q is saying he feels better than he has at any point this season. Haloti seems to be dealing with his injury better than he was earlier. I feel like this might be the healthiest we've been since week 1, and I think it will have a major impact on the outcome of this game.

My keys to this game: 1) Feed Rice and Williams early and often
2) Get Lee Evans some easy completions early to build confidence.
3) The offensive line must protect.
4) The defense must neutralize the Texan's ground game and force Yates to beat us.
5) No YAC. If AJ gets a 20+ yard completion, that's fine but he can't be allowed to
do anything with it. I think the CBs need to make the Texans earn every yard the
hard way.
6) Get everyone involved. WRs, tight ends, pass rushers, whoever, I think they
should all be subbed in and get snaps early. The more they're in the game, the
better I think everyone will play.

1) Pass-rush/Protection. Whichever teams gets after the QB better will definitely have an advantage here. I dont think either team will have a lot of success rushing the ball so a lot is going to fall on the QBs.

2) Ravens TEs/RBs vs Texans LBs/safeties. I think this is an element of our passing attack that can exploit their defense. Their LBs are not great in coverage and I think Ray RIce, Pitta, and Dickson can have a big day if properly utilized. I would like to see a lot of 2 TE sets.

3) Suggs/JJ ability to set the edge against the zone-stretch run that Houston loves to run. In week 6 we did a great job containing Arian Foster, and if we want to win the same discipline of defense will be necessary. It's virtually impossible to beat the Ravens running up the middle, but if they can get to the outside Foster can rip off some big runs. JJ and Suggs will have their hands full, but I believe they will be up to the task.

We only have 60minutes of the game. If evans wants to be part of a x-factor, he needs to make the biggest game. Like a hail mary catch. His a verteran. It's pointless dumping him 'easy catches'. We'll know if his ready at the biggest moment when we need him.

Agreed. Your number four is the most important but otherwise that pretty much covers everything.

You people have a short memory dont you, well i dont.

Flacco and our D won this game, Rice of course helped. I remember this game like it was played yesterday. I didnt even want to make the Video because of the play calling. Everytime Flacco saved us on third down with a first down throw , we would run it. Everytime Flacco threw a bomb to the red zone, what did we do. We ran it over and over again. But i think Cam learned his listen and realized we score a lot more in the red zone when Flacco throws it, you guys can look up the stats i know i dont even have to bother. Since mid season or so , Flacco has been thrown more TD passes in the second half the season in the red zone than he did in the beginning. Im positive.

Dont you guys remember when Rice had that Huge gain, what did we do after that. We ran Rice (knowing he was already gassed) and we didnt gain a yard, we actually lost yardage.

Same with the Boldin and T.Smith Deep passes, we tried running it over and over again. But like i said before, i do think Cam realized it.

I want Rice to have a great day but if it comes down to Flacco throwing it, i have Faith (no punt intended lol)

You cant say that , remember that little yardage pass against the 49ers for a first down. That was HUGE and i feel it was a game changer, it kept the drive alive and we did end up scoring.

Well, I guess what I meant was, in order to be prepared, I think getting Lee involved early will help. It's one thing to believe in chemistry, but I think it's another to have early success with a receiver early on in a game, because then you have a lot of confidence in throwing him the ball at the end of the game when you need him.

1. Fans loudness
Its simple Make sure it is super loud in stadium, penalties all day and offense cant get rhythm

My favorite part about the noise is that it makes their offensive just a tick slower to react to the snap. The Ravens can see the snap. So that puts the O Line into more of a reactionary mode. In our history when this happens, we swarm the QB.

-Joe's quick decision making and pin point accuracy on his passes
-WRs/TEs catching the ball
-Cam's proper use of his personel..especially Ray Rice
-Cam's variety of playcalls and not merely the normal "script" (i.e. run, run, pass, pa etc.)
-O-line pushing back the D-line...great pass protection and run blocking
-Defensive pressure and sacks on Yates
-Containing the run
-Creating defensive turnovers
-Special teams

I'm going to go with Webb a singular x-factor.

He's probably going to be on Johnson more than Cary and Jimmy. Even when he'll have good coverage on him, I can see Yates still trying to get the ball to Andre.

He's going to be returning kicks and punts too and we know he's electric on those.

Time of possession.

I expect us to be up at around the 45 min mark holding onto a slim-ish lead (it's happened in most of our games the last two years). The tricky part is by that time, we need the Texans D to be more worn out than ours will be. It happened in week 6 and we might not have won if their D wasn't on the field as much as they were. Unfortunately our all-or-none style of offense is terrible in terms of TOP. Either we have a 3-and-out or a long bomb setting up a TD, or Ray Rice breaks one early in the drive.

That said, my X-factor/breakout performer for our team is Boldin. Getting him consistent first downs will be crucial. And the Texans, as I mentioned elsewhere, haven't been that good against #1 WRs.

Run Rice and Ricky. Play action pass. Utilize the tight ends.

Stop Foster. Double team AJ.

yeah. that´s pretty easy right? shutting down the best wr in the game and one of the best running backs. we should´t have any problem to do this....smh

we need a a+ day from each and everyone of our guys. everybody has to bring bios best to the table. i don´t see any of the defenses having an advantage above the other team.

i don´t see any team having an advantage on offense. maybe the texans are a little better suited but they still have a rookie qb.

if we are able to force the texans running the ball more than they wanted to we should have an advantage. we are very good against the run. we struggle when the qb gets into a rhythm. i don´t trust our secondary as much as i did in this year before. i don´t know why. they give up a lot of yardage. especially on their downs.

i hope we win. but this one will be closer then a lot of people might think...

-Stop the run " set the edges and funnel everything to the inside with Cody Ngata and Ray"

- Webb on Johnson "Man on Man with Reed Deep"

- Suggs and JJ after Yates " Keep him on the move"

- Rice run off tackle "Our most successful run play"

- Boldin and Pitta over the middle "Sould be open when ML comes in to protect aginst the run"

- Joe in the shotgun " Much more effective"

- Torrey and Evens Deep "Take your shots deep after we get the leed to seal the deal"

- Crowd Noise "Won't be a problem"

-Stay Focused and Play like Ravens

I never said it would be easy? But thats what we have to do to win... And how are the Texans better suited? Ravens have a major advantage over them at QB and Defense. Flacco is way better then Yates. Plus its at HOME after a bye and Ravens are all healthy? I dont think it we'll blow them out but saying the texans are better suited then us is crazy! And last year the ravens secondary was horrible! Smh, I dont get your logic

Having Boldin back will be huge. He killed the Texans last time. We need to get the mid-range passing game clicking--running will be tough sledding, and they're going to be watching for that deep ball after the last outing.

I personally think they're most vulnerable in that mid-range passing game. Cushing is a heck of a tough customer, but I saw Dalton exploit his coverage again and again last week. That's not his forte. I want to see them go to Boldin and the TEs with eight yard crosses until the cows come home, and a healthy dose of Ray Rice to keep them on their heels. If we can do that, I think we take control of the game and ride it on out to a W.

Not gonna be a blowout, though--unless Yates gets squirrely and starts trying to make plays. If that happens, it could well become one.

I know they had Shaub last time, and now they have AJ, but AJ still can't be completely healthy, and he's catching passes from Yates, not Shaub. Besides, I really think home field plays a big role in this. I feel like the Ravens are a completely different team at home than on the road. Most of our impressive games this season - Pittsburgh, Arizona, San Francisco, have come at home, while all of the eggs we laid were on the road.

Houston's offense in the red zone. They are going to end up settling for 3 instead of punching it in. I think the only way they score on offense is via a big play.

Football is a simple game and for the Ravens it is no different. For me the keys lie offensively, it is Ray Rice. If we can have success early running the football, Flacco can throw easier. Boldin is Flacco's favorite target to control a defense, not to mention our two TE's exploiting and spreading out a defense.
Beware, if Flacco hits Smith for long pass plays, it could be a big day for us offensively.
