This Joe Flacco Hate

103 posts in this topic

I dont know what it is, I guess we had a BYE and the media, the talking heads, needed to create a story...so they say all the pressure is on the Ravens, which may be true...but now its if the Ravens lose its all on Joe Flacco and if Joe loses to a rookie 3rd string QB then the Ravens need to ditch him

There were always Flacco doubters but recently its gotten turned up to 11 (if dial goes 1-10)

Its a little ridiculous, I dont get why all of a sudden Joe Flacco is the scapegoat if we fail, it wasnt just Joe Flacco who lost us the Steelers game last year and if we won that game maybe the haters arent out to get him this year

It really went to another level when he had his media presser the other day, if the Ravens lose it must be because Joe Flacco cost them the game....thats a witch hunt man

the media is really trying to build this pressure on Joe and i really hope he doesnt pay any attention, i dont think it will get to him but u never know...he's always been Joe Cool and I fully expect him to lead us to victory because chances are that the Texans defense will do well enough against our run game that Joe will have to pass the ball, I just hope its not so predictable that his chances to succeed are slim and none

its crazy , even some of the articles on this site have brought it up

Alexir's right. I understand your frustration, scrock, but sadly the media are who they are. And I keep saying, the people who trash Flacco know next to nothing about quarterback play - Warren Sapp, not a quarterback, Jamie Dukes spent most of his time as a reserve o-lineman, Ashley Fox - really do I need an explanation, Dave Dameshek - same with Fox, Skip Bayless is an actor, that 105.7 dude nobody knows who he is, etc. Listen to what Steve Young says, what Kurt Warner says, what Trent Dilfer says, what Mariucci and Billick and Michael Irvin say. They know quarterbacks, and they like Flacco. Young and Warner, especially, know what it's like to be deemed not good enough to play, to be demoted and traded, to have a large portion of their own fanbase against them. And guess what? They're in the HOF.

All I'm concerned about is that Ravens fans who claim to actually watch the game have it out for the guy. Why, I don't know - this season should be such a big boost in Flacco's favor, IMO. He's shown the talent to be one of the best in the league, several times. Has he been maddeningly inconsistent, yes. But he certainly isn't a game manager quarterback. What he needs is proper coaching and more time with his new receivers. I really do believe that in 3-4 years he could be like Drew Brees, if given the proper coaching. But as fans we should be used to the national media disrespecting our team, disrespecting our quarterbacks especially.

And I really believe that Flacco is going to have a solid game against Houston. It may not be Week 1 spectacular, but I think people will be surprised.

The producer? I'm positive that guy's a Colts fan. Regardless, it's useless to get hung up on what the media(especially the national) says. They're fickle and often uninformed.

I am getting SICK of the negative talk about him and am glad he spoke up about it.

Even Dungy got in on the negative crap.

Come on Joe, shut them all up this Sunday!

Yeah, the guy who said "Dalton is already better than Flacco". I'm sure he heard a lot about that one this past week.

Blah, Blah, Blah. No more discussing about Joe. Who cares about what sort of respect he isn't getting or should get. What he is, what he isn't. It's all moot at this very point in time.

He's our quarterback for this game. Every Ravens fan should be the biggest Joe Flacco fan for the next three days. Plenty of time to talk about the details during the offseason.

For now, its as simply as 'Go Joe!"

All I know is that if Flacco has a clunker on Sunday...god help him.

I don't care about the media as much as the local fans. He's going to he killed.

The talking heads need to have a bad thing to say about our team, and Joe's just the guy they pick on. Ignore them. All that matters is 44 wins in his first four years (48 including playoffs) which nobody else can say.

Listen...Here goes my rant, and i say this seriously.

I don't think there is another QB i would rather have, in our system, than Flacco. Bash all you want, i'm being serious here. Here are my reasons.

1. Just look at this wins, he has BROKEN NFL RECORDS. Now granted, this is a team sport and Flacco didn't win these games himself, but could another QB of done it? who knows, i know Flacco did.
2. I really don't think any of the league's "elite" QB's would fit here. We run a balanced offence, not a pass heavy offense. We have one of the league's best RB's and I feel that if we had a Brady, Brees or Rodgers there would be some team frustration/arguments on who gets the ball-causing problems in the locker room/team issues.
3. You just can't look at Joe's stats and base your decision off of it. Stats don’t mean anything in my book. His pass completion % means nothing. Are you taking into consideration the number of drops he had ( I know he didn't have a significant amount more than anybody else but still)? Are you taking into consideration how many pass attempts he had vs other QB's (he is actually up there in comparison to others)? Are you taking into consideration how many high risk/high reward passes he made (20+yds)? Are you taking into consideration that our WR/TE corps are young, for the most part? There are so many variables here that you can't just look at his pass completion % and say his is good, bad, ugly or whatever.
4. He is a tough QB. At least 50% of the QB's in the league could not handle our division, the most competative and hard hitting devision in the NFL. Joe has never missed a game. Heck, a lot of people give him a lot of flack for one of his playoff performances in the past but do you remember he was playing with a horribly bad leg? Joe is one tough guy, i don't think Brady could handle the hits Joe takes all year.
5. He is a team player. You don't see him going for glory. You don't see him in media frenzy's (recently maybe…). Joe plays for the team, not for his own personal stats etc..
6. Cam Cameron restrictions, nuff' said.

I know a lot of people here won't agree on all of these points, but hopefully you can agree with at least a few. I am proud to have Joe as our QB and I'm very serious about saying I wouldn't trade him for another in the league. Yes sure there is a lot of Ravens pride built into that statement but heck, i'm a die hard ravens fan that supports the team no matter what, and why not throw some extra support to a QB that has done some amazing things in his 4 year career.

Go Ravens, Go Flacco!!!!

Dude i completely feel you. Im so sick of it. They all jump on this bandwagon thing with us only running the Ball. It makes me RAGE when i just hear it, im sick of it. Do they even watch the games with Flacco. He got us to win when we were down against the Cards. , but no one brings that up, No one in the media brings up Flaccos game winning drive against the STEALERS. I could go on and on.

Even the games we lost, if our Defense could have stopped them at the end of the games ,Flacco could have drove us down the field to win. I say that because FLACCO got into rhythm and scored but our D couldnt stop them. (JAGS N SEATTLE)

There are only 4 QBs that our Better than Flacco imo. But honestly i wouldnt want any of them playing for us. I would pick Flacco over Manning,Brees,Brady and Rogers. No B.S, i really would. Only thing i would change is the OC.

And i dont think i would have said that last season but to me Flacco has Drastically improved this yr.

LOL thats if they even bring him or the RAVENS up,lol. Dont even bother watching First Tebow, opps i mean First Take. I am soooo sick of hearing about Tebow, i want the Broncos to beat the PATS only so we have can play them. But on the other hand that means a whole other WEEK of TEBOW.

I definitely think he's gotten better at avoiding the rush and extending the play. And he's certainly more mentally tough, overcoming Arizona and Pittsburgh the way he did. Plus all the new pieces he's working with, it hasn't been easy. But I still don't like that San Diego "I thought I could get is around him, even though he and I both knew I was throwing it there." That sounds like Cam Cameron to me "I know 99 percent of the time, with anyone else in the league, it won't work, but it's me and because of that it will work." I think with a full offseason to work with Dickson, Pitta, Lee, and Torrey (plus the end of the Cam Cameron experiment), we'll see a better Flacco (numbers wise) than we saw last year.

Actually the Ravens finished 7th in the league with 31 dropped passes. The lowest was 20, so it wasn't a lot more, but I'd still say 31 was significant, also because while other receivers drop passes, they tend to make up for it with spectacular catches, while our receivers for the most part don't.

we don't need another one of these threads!

Joe does exactly what the Ravens need him to do! he is NOT a manager! he throws when needed, hands off or dumps off to Ray Rice when needed, scrambles when needed, throws to the TEs when needed etc. he is a QB! he does what is required to move the chains and win the game NOT what the media wants him to do and for that he is scrutinized. Joe fits our Raven offensive system!

Who cares what the media thinks? You want to know how bad the media got on about Micheal Jordan--THE GOAT? You think it was peaches and cream for him in the beginning?

They said he couldn't play defense---he went on to win DPOY
They said he was a ball hog---he became the Bulls all time assist leader
They said he wouldn't win a championship---he gave them SIX
Then they said "No one will ever be better than you"

Take that approach Joe...

That's because you were like 2 when Jordan played. In his early years, before he won, he was one of the most criticized players in the league, not just by the media but by star players. Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and even Dennis Rodman all said Jordan was way overhyped. For someone who claims to know so much (I still can't believe you brought up Steve DeBerg in a conversation and tried to make it mean something), it's clear you have more to learn.

That's exactly right, I can't think of hardly any "spectacular catches" this season from any Ravens players. All catches are rather pedestrian catches that happen because Flacco puts the ball exactly where it needs to be to make for an easy grab and the receiver got reasonably well open. But I see a lot of players around the league every week make these ridiculous catches, tiptoeing the sideline, or just barely crossing the goal line to turn a catch into a TD instead of a goal-to-go situation, or making crazy one-handed grabs, or leaping over defenders to make a play, etc. I don't see Ravens players doing these kinds of things, with the exception of Boldin against the Cardinals where I can think of 3 crazy catches he made during that game. Other than that one anomalous performance, I can't think of any Ravens receivers making "unlikely" catches in spectacular fashion the way Eli Manning, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees seem to benefit from all the time.

I don't know if you saw the Lions-Saints game, but the entire time I kept thinking that Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson made some absolutely ridiculous catches that bailed Stafford out. He threw to Johnson 3-4 times in double or triple coverage and Johnson made the play every time. And Burleson had an absolutely ridiculous back shoulder catch where I don't even think he was looking at the ball when he caught it. I've never seen any of our receivers do that for Joe.
