3 Wr Vs. 2 Te

16 posts in this topic

What do you expect to see more of from the offense on Sunday?

Apparently Flacco's QB rating is a 0.0 when throwing to Evans (4/25 for 74 yards, 0 TD, 3 INTs). Granted, they haven't had time to establish a rapport, but still. And I help but remember that endzone INT vs. Indy (or it might have been Cleveland, my memory escapes me). Evans didn't even fight for the ball. If you can't make the catch, at least prevent the INT.

On the other hand, the Flacco-Pitta connection seems quite strong. Together, they're third down monsters.

Evans would probably be more of a wrinkle for Houston, since the tape on him is limited, but I'm not confident in how effective he'll be.

I expect Evans in very limited snaps. He'll be out there to provide a different look. But our norm should be the two TEs. Cushing is a beast in run support. We need to keep him occupied with having to worry about the TEs.

A TE in the slot is a mismatch against any one their guys. But if we use Evans, Boldin should be in the slot and can cause damage. If we use this look, Evans might get covered by Kareem Jackson, which is a win.

But to me a 2 TE set is the way to go. Plus the chemistry is there.

I still don't understand what people are watching on that Sheldon Brown interception. The ball was thrown well behind Evans. Unless he defied physics and completely reversed his momentum, there was no way he could have broken that pass up. He still made an effort to fight for it when Brown came down though.

As for the question, I'd like a healthy mix of both. Evans can still get behind DBs and the TEs can obviously make plays.

Evans has been a non-factor so far this season. While Boldin was out, I wouldn't have used him on a deep route, but I would rather have sent him out 8-10 yards to get him back into the rhythm. Thanks to Cameron for dialing up the wrong play again. Now that Boldin is back I wouldn't even think about throwing to Evans unless he is wide open. Maybe Cameron is planning one of his patented end arounds for Evans. I'm hoping that he get one or two receptions on Sunday so that we can have a glimmer of hope that he will be back in form for next year. Otherwise, that 4th round pick will be haunting us in the draft. Stick with the TE sets. That's what has worked in the past weeks and will continue to work. Pitta has golden hands. Throw him the ball. Dickson can come in to make a few catches too. Throw the deep ball to Smith not Evans. I'd like to see Boldin have another 100+ yard game against Joseph. Go Ravens. Indy awaits your arrival.

If they want to use Evans in this game. I suggest they get him an easy early catch. Get him involved early. Let him feel a part of this offense.

what's with all this Evans hate? Do you not remember the critical 3rd down conversion he had to FIGHT FOR that might of secured that win for us?

Don't get on the guy just for being out due to injury... Plus do you remember how much success him and flacco had in the preseason?

I'd put in a special package to make Lee Evans run deep outs whenever he's in, if for no other reason than to make the opposing CBs very tired. If we get lucky and he's wide open we take the shot, but otherwise, he's just stretching the defense to make things easier for everyone else.

But for that whole 3WR vs 2TE debate, I think a lot of that depends on down and distance and position on the field. The further away from the end zone is where I would like to see 3WR to take advantage of their speed. Once we get closer, play more 2TE to take advantage of their size.

Wide open or not sending Evans deep can help spread the defense.

If anything I think we can spread this defense out with 5 receiver sets. We have Boldin,Torrey Smith, Dickson, Pitta, Evans/Rice and someone is bound to get open.

But running should be top priority. Rice/Ricky combo is very sexy and I think the Texans will have trouble with both.

If only he can play half of what he has done in buffalo. He needs to MAKE plays. We need that x-factor to compete with patsies, packers, and saints. But i dont think Evans really realize how crucial his roles are in this team. Maybe his been in a losing organization for too long and his used to dissapointing fans. He better show us something.

If Joe and Lee can establish a connection it could be huge in terms fo changing up looks on the defense. It's certainly a big if given Lee's lack of production this season, but I think changing up the looks would be really beneficial in our game plan. Being unpredictable is something we need to do.

This has been one of the biggest problems, IMO. Since Evans got back I feel like Cam is constantly dialing up long pass plays for him, and they are difficult for any receiver. He and Joe need to hook up on a few early balls. I don't see what the harm is in letting him run a few short routes and making positive catches. It will boost his confidence and Joe's confidence in him, and I think we'd see an improved Lee Evans if he just had some positive plays.

Cam needs to establish Evans quick and early. throw him some quick slants, out routes etc. then of course...send him deep to open up things underneath. with Evans and T. Smith, taking the top off the defense....there is no reason why our TEs and Ray Rice can't do work underneath.

I'm pretty sure we'll see more of the two TE sets but I would like to see Evans drawing coverage and maybe getting a catch.

It will be nice seeing Boldin back on the field as well.

Correction: If ANYBODY gets covered by Kareem Jackson, it is a win. I hope we can get to the QB enough that way it won't matter.;)

Not sure what people think but an interesting look could be a 3 tight end set, per say. Our third tight end is kris wilson, and he is a much more established blocking tight end, yet proved in the preseason he can be a threat in the passing game as well. I would love to see around the goaline splitting boldin and pitta out wide with rice in the backfield, and wilson and dickson on the line. I think it would be an interesting look where we could motion wilson to the fullback position or rice out wide. Also its difficult to cover 6 foot 4 dickson and pitta, 6 foot 2 big bodied wilson, rice with his ability to get open, and boldin with his ability to get position and make plays. just a thought that could possibly create match up problems down around the goal line to get touchdowns instead of field goals. I also trust rices hands more than smith right now
