Yanda Had Emergency Leg Surgery After Browns Game

23 posts in this topic

Apparently Yanda was dealing with a bout of compartment syndrome in his leg and had to have emergency surgery on Christmas eve. He is a full go for this week. This is the same sort of injury that Nicks had a few years back.
"It's over with now," Yanda said. "I got the stitches out and my leg feels good."
Talk about a tough guy though. Playing with bruised ribs and compartment syndrome, Well worth the money.

When you look up the dictionary under the definition "tough" you will find Marshal Yanda!

Compartment syndrome can get nasty. I am amazed at how Tough that man is. Love you Marshal!
Yea Nicks had it last a while back and missed a lot of games with it.

The article says if it wasn't treated right away it could lead to having the leg amputated. But even if that were to occur, I could see Yanda playing with one leg.

I had a buddy in college who had this same issue with pressure build-up in his muscles... his was called "bilateral compartment syndrome." Anyway, apparently it's incredibly painful, to the point where my friend had issues walking.

Yanda is an absolute beast.

P.S. Anybody else have a heart attack when they opened up BR.com this morning and saw "Yanda has emergency surgery"?

Sorry about that. I did feel the same way when I saw the article. Then after I read it, I was like ahhhh. The fact that he wasn't limited in practice yesterday says it all.

From how painless his contract situation was in the off-season, to how he's taken his play to another level and the toughness he's shown, Yanda is quite simply, the man.

Just a regular ol' humble country boy happy to be playing football for a living. Few and far between and others can learn from him!

This is one of the many reasons I adore the man. I had ZERO idea that he was playing on a bad leg let alone the cracked ribs.

What the heck do they feed baby boys in Iowa? :D

I'm pretty sure it's not formula or cow milk; it's lion's milk!....

The headline seriously gave me a heart attack like others; I didn't even see the word "had" and all I saw was Yanda surgery. I don't think the whole bottle of Prozac can help to calm me down about that news.

There is no word to describe the toughness and endurance about Yanda; so glad he's the Ravens for life......

Yes, I was clicking on it going "ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap"

Still, dude's a beast for playing through this. I can't wait to see what he will look like this weekend now that he's healthier.

Agreed. And not only playing through it... but having an excellent game. Hopefully he gets those same 2nd level blocks against the Texans on Sunday.

My man Yanda is tough as nails. I remember debating with people about whether he was worth it to resign him. People tried to call him greedy, tried to say he wasn't worth the money. Someone even said he just wasn't good. They got their fair share of crow, thats for sure.

We paid him top tier as a G because he can play RT in a pinch. Versatility is priceless IMO. I hope there is someway we can keep Grubbs too. Grubbs and Yanda together for 4 or 5 years will be a top 2 or 3 G tandem in the entire league.
