Broncos Illegal Formation In Last Week's OT?

Kind of a dead-ender, but interesting...

Was Tim Tebow's Game-Winning Touchdown Illegal?

By Chris Chase | Shutdown Corner – 21 hours ago

A review of the Denver Broncos' pre-snap formation on the game-winning touchdown pass from Tim Tebow to Demaryius Thomas suggests that the play could have been ruled illegal.

Only six Denver Broncos players were lined up on the line of scrimmage before the snap. NFL rules say that a team must have seven or more players on the line for a snap to be legal. As the picture above shows, tight end Dante Rosario was well behind his teammates.

The full write-up w/ a pic of the formation:

His front foot is the same place as the foot of the last guy on the line. You just move a little forward from the guys butt and then go back to the guy outside, yep. Same place. That makes 7.

I knew there would be something to come out of somewhere though to indicate the Steelers were robbed.

Doesn't matter. The defenders still go beat and Denver made the play.
If seven guys are close to line and set, Pereira implies, then the formation is fine. The seven Broncos were close to the line and set, so there was nothing to call.
I guarantee in the thousands of plays that were made in the NFL in 2011, this isn't the ONLY time somebody could have caught something like this after the fact. It's just more of the media hype that the voracious 24/7 news cycle requires.

Remember the Delay of Game penalty that wasn't against the Ravens in 2008 against the Titans?

Penalties happen and don't happen (and this one seems iffy on whether or not it should have been called,) but you have all the opportunities in the world the rest of the game to not put yourself in the situation where you can get hurt by a call or non-call like this.

If the 7th guy was exactly on the line instead of half a foot behind it, Polamalu would've been in position to pick the ball off and score 6 thus propelling the Steelers to their seventh Super Bowl. The league is pulling them down.

I had read on NFL.com (I believe) that the NFL officially announced the play was legal.
Don't have a link, and I'm too lazy to look for it. lol

And then there was the backward pass resulting in a fumble which was called an incomplete pass. That was stupid! But then again; it was Ron Winter.

Wasn't Eddie Royal on the line of scrimmage? Wouldn't that also make 7?? Who cares? Pitt got a gift non-call on the blatant backwards pass/fumble. They should have NO gripes.

This is such a judgement call in my estimation. He was close to the line and he was set. Seems like people are just looking for something to start contraversy. The bottom line is Denver actually outplayed the Steelers, they did not "get lucky."

If it was a possible penalty, it is certainly not the worst one to end a game, how many times do you see blatent offensive holding while Brady or Ben or Manning buys time to throw it deep to win the game?

Yes, lets conveniently forget the backwards pass/fumble that would have put the game out of reach long before that "illegal" formation happened. Typical Steelers fans in the media grasping at straws. And illustrates exactly why I have dispised the Steelers since long before I became a Ravens fan. They get call after call after call that goes their way (remember the refs calling back TWO Ravens TDs in the opening drive in week 9?)...but the ONE time one goes against them, it's the end of the world and everyone is against them.

This is almost as funny as Ryan Clark calling conspiracy because the lights went out in San Francisco. Of course this bull would make the news

him saying it was a conspiracy had nothing to do with the game... he didnt say it was a conspiracy to try and put the 49ers at an advantage.
he said it was a conspiracy to get a new stadium which the 49ers and city of san fran want. nothing to do with the game whatsoever.

That annoys me when people seem to just "assume" things from an article heading and dont bother to read the full quote.

Wow, I could have SWORN I read somewhere that Clark thought the city blew out the lights in an effort to keep the players off of the field so Ben's medication could wear out. My mistake.

thats a pile of crap.. get your facts right first, i hate steelers as much as the next guy but spreading crap isnt on.. here is the link http://sports.yahoo....urn=nfl,wp14337

and he said "I just feel like San Francisco took a big stage to show the NFL and to show the state of California that they needed a new stadium," said Clark, who is also probably a big fan of those moon landing hoax specials on the Discovery Channel. "I think it was a very strategic move and Candlestick may be no more very soon."

he believed Monday night's double power outage was planned by civic leaders or team officials to highlight the inadequacy of the 51-year-old stadium. Earlier this week, Santa Clara's city council endorsed a deal to approve funds for a new stadium, provided the NFL contributes at least $150 million

he did not ever, not once say it was to try and gain an advantage over the steelers... maybe someone else did, buy ryan clark did not.

Get your facts right before you comment....
