Who's Had Our Number?

32 posts in this topic

This is a thread dedicated to players that just had our number over the years. One of the ones that comes to mind for me was

Amos Zeroue. wheile he was a Steeler, I swear, we made him look like Barry Sanders or something. I would watch him just run the ball at will against our top tier defense and then facing weaker teams, the guy looked like a scrub! How could he perform so well against us, and nobody else. Thats what killed me about him.

Whos next....?

I really can't think of anyone besides Peyton and Big Ben; and I think they pretty much put a nail in that Big Ben owns us coffin. I'm not afraid of anyone else ... we've beat them all.

It seems like once a year Peyton Hillis has our number, rushing for over 100 yards. But then the other game we play them, we shut him down to below 50. I'm sure if thats really "having our number" but i know last year, he was the main reason the game was close when we won 24-17. Same with the 2nd to last game of this year (besides the punt return for a TD by Josh Cribbs), he was their only weapon against us.

Brady hasn't had our numbers over the years... we've beaten them a couple of times with one of those times being in the playoffs at their own home in which we destroyed them just a few years ago. It feels like to me Brady always wins against us because ref's give him sissy calls like when somebody puts their hand on his helmet or gets pushed into him. Thats not him owning us; thats the ref's owning us.

P. Manning, Palmer, Holmes, Polamalu (before this year, much like Worthlessburger), and Rivers comes to mind here.

People have already mentioned him but Santonio Holmes used to kill this team. I think he scored a TD every game he played against the Ravens from '07 to '09.

Why are people mentioning Brady? 2009 playoffs we shredded him and the *gulp* Clayton drop a few years ago we should have won. Hell, we should have won last years reg season meeting as well. I know there are some "shoulds" there, but I don't think Brady "has our number".

Rex Ryan.

We really need to change our number. He keeps calling and calling trying to take our players, luckily for him, we allow him to pick only at the scraps.

To be fair, Manning hasn't played exceptionally well against us all the time. 2 games in 2009, 3 TDs 3 picks, rating under 90 both times. He won in 2006 in the playoffs but was putrid in the game - QB rating under 40. He and his team just have a knack for making one or two plays against us at times, and Joe in his career until this year had been absolutely terrible against the Colts (although the first two meetings were in his first two years). I'd like to see a healthy Manning vs. Joe sometime down the road when Joe returns to/surpasses last year's play.

As far as quarterback play goes this honor goes to Peyton Manning, and Matt Hasselbeck. Have we ever beaten these QB's? I think we beat Peyton his rookie year, and I can't recall beating Hasselbeck ever.

Luckily we don't play Aaron Rodgers very often because he could have our number as well. Carson Palmer and Rothlisberger have given us fits over the years, but we are responsibile for some of their worst games as well.

As far as running backs go I don't think any have ever really had our number. I remember Brandon Jacobs and the Giants really taking it to us a few season ago. But those kind of games are few and far inbetween.

Lastly there are some receivers out there that just own everyone. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald seem to be in a class of their own. Kenny Britt got us pretty good earlier in the year, and it makes you wonder where the Titans would be if he didn't get injured this year.

Peyton has generally ben sub standard against us. Ed Reed definitely has Peyton's number. The reason they won all of those games are because their defense has had our number. Our offense is a big play one and their defense is predicated on preventing big plays. Just a bad matchup overall.

The AFC South besides Houston has generally had our number though. We have losing records against Jacksonville, Tennessee and Indy. Mark Brunell used to kill us normally. Even put up 36 in the 2000 season. Our games against Tennessee have always been close defensive struggles.

In terms of QBs I'd say
Tom Brady
Bretty Favre
Mark Brunell
Peyton Manning (Until we drafted Ed Reed)

The Ravens have only beaten the Patriots one time in franchise history.

Mark Brunell and Jimmy Smith were the first that came to mind. We could not beat those Jaguars when we became the Ravens.
