Looking Back At Broncos Trades

9 posts in this topic

Trade#1: Jay cutler traded to Bears
Cutler is 1-1 in playoffs. With the bears. 2 seasons he and bears have missed playoffs.
Broncos received Kyle Orton who is now with chiefs however he may have won starting job their leading them 2-1 as starter for chiefs at end of season.
1st round pick that the Broncos got from bears was used to get Lb Robert Ayers.

Trade#2: Brandon Marshall to dolphins
Has Marshall done much? No playoffs with Dolphins but has made it to probowl yet has had injury and off field issues.
Funny thing a pick the Broncos got in return was traded to Ravens which turned into Sergio kindle after Denver traded with baltimore. To draft Tebow.

Trade#3: Peyton hillis to browns
Despite this season,Pillis was great last year and was madden posterboy.
Broncos got Brady Quinn who has been backup since the trade

Trade#4: Broncos trade for Ravens 25th pick
Broncos drafted current QB Tim Tebow who has led the Broncos to playoffs as AFC West champs.
Ravens on otherhand with picks recieved from Broncos. Ravens get Sergio Kindle in 2nd round and also drafted Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta.

It wasn't a trade but now Josh Mcdaniels fired by denver and fired by st.louis so now McDaniels will or is now back with Patriots...same team that Mcdaniels left to be Broncos head coach.

So looking back , Do you guys think the Broncos have benefited?

Ravens definitely Benefited but part of me thinks the Broncos lost out. Essentially you can look at it like this they lose cutler and Marshall, Peyton Hillis, 3 draft picks(to ravens for 25th pick) only in return they get brady Quinn, kyle Orton, draft Robert ayers and draft tebow.

Trade 1 - No they lost a franchise QB.

Trade 2 - Yes, while BM is talented he wasn't worth the risk for them.

Trade 3 - A wash after this year.

Trade 4 - Ravens got two players who are the future of their offense and Denver got Tebowmania. I'll call it even for now since you need 4 years to judge a draft class.

Isn't it a win-win for almost every team though?

-Bears get a franchise QB, Jay Cutler
-Dolphins get a top 10, pro bowl WR with Brandon Marshall
-Browns even though he had a down year still have a probowl RB and a top 15 RB with peyton Hillis
-Bronco's received what seem to be their current starting QB Tim tebow who led them to a division title and a playoff win.
-Broncos also have LB Robert Ayers who has had a good year on the Broncos defense and is a playmaker for them
-Ravens got 3 players, 2 of which start on offense and are playmakers in their own right. Kindle has potential to be good.
-Josh McDaniels is now back with a winning team, same team that made him famous and got him his coaching job.
-Chiefs and Romeo Crennell may have their starting QB with Kyle Orton.

Seriously so who loses?

Josh McDaniels in the end gets the last laugh...... look at how it went down. McDaniels drafted Thomas 22nd overall, and then jumped back up to the 25th Pick and drafted Tebow. How was the game won... 80 Yard Pass from Tebow to Thomas.

Denver Fans can now realize that Josh McDaniels essentially won the playoff game for them, if McDaniels doesn't get hired as Head Coach and they keep Shanahan, does Thomas and Tebow come to Denver? No. Does Cutler and Marshall stay in Denver, Yes. So without McDaniels short reign in Denver the Broncos don't even make it to the playoffs, without McDaniels Fox has to put in Brady Quinn to relief Orton, not Tebow. In the end it all worked out for the best, but McDaniels essentially won the game for Denver.

True but they could of still won with a Cutler to marshall pass? Peyton Hillis/Knowshon Moreno could a been a possible 2 headed monster.

Yet in reference to what you said then we never get Kindle, and we most likely only get either Pitta or Dickson and not both. Then Bears never get Cutler so perhaps they use their 1st rd pick that year to get a Jimmy Clausen or Tim Tebow?

The broncos really lost out in every aspect to me.

trade 1) Cutler is Franchise caliber QB ( has had ups and downs with martz system and no linemen ) sure Orton threw for lots of yards but they were rarely in wins.

Trade 2 ) Marshall had tremendous off field issues in Denver including that murder he was present for also. But he and Cutler had tremendous Chemistry. Once cutler was gone neither marshall nor E.Royal were as effective.

Trade P.Hillis - although this also looks bad in retrospect it really wasn't a bad deal. Because Hillis only got to play last season because Hardesty got hurt before his rookie season and J.Harrison was let go. Hillis got his shot made the most of it. In Denver Hillis would have still played behind Moreno and under a coach that didn't run as much....
Since B.Quinn hasn't played a down by default Denver must lose this trade regardless.

Trade 4 ) Tebow draft trade. 3 picks for right to tebow ( next year will truly tell the tale of this trade.) will Kindle breakout and have a role on this team will Dickson and Pitta become game-breaking weapons for this offense (- Cam Cameron lol) Can tebow actually continue to be the Denver starter? If he is then Denver will have to commit to putting players around him to fit the system.

Also lost in this mix broncos traded away Scheffer TE to the lions. Which could have been a receiving TE to help that offense.

Without McDaniels Cutler/ Marshall/ Royal continue to develop along with TE Scheffer ( traded to lions by McDaniels also ) B.Lloyd still doesn't have his breakout season because he would be #3 veteran WR on dept chart.
Brady Quinn trade does not happen because Quinn was essentially insurance for if Orton failed after trading Cutler. Therefore P.Hillis remains a bronco but not a relevant Bronco.

Broncos could still draft D.Thomas or Dez Bryant, OT Bulgua, CB Mccourty
