Ok. So tell me then more about the vocals for Iron Maiden. I like the higher pitched guy voices, and I cannot stand female voices. Vocals make or break a band for me. Thats why even though I am a metal-head, I love Journey. Steve Perry, imo, is the greatest vocalist of all time. Also, I always subconsciously avoided Iron Maiden because the name, being derived from the medieval torture device that was a poster child for the cruelty of humanity, was always a little creepy seeming to me, and so I stayed away from them.

lol yes their albums are pretty scary. But the band is not crazy or anything. They are actually a drug free band actually. Anyway about the vocals. In the early days they had a guy who had a more punk voice but they fired him because of his bad live performances and drug use. The bassist(creator of the band) wanted a singer who would fit better. So they got a pilot and fencer but also a singer named Bruce Dickinson. According to most people he is considered a opera like tenor. He can really get up there. Today he is a bit lower but still pretty high. He proably is the best sounding in the album "Powerslave". In the early 90's he like got a little raspier in singing but went back to his normalness after his pretty good solo career. If you like high vocals listen to them.

It seems like this forum is overrun with metal fans.
[/quote]

we should make a heavy meatl thread so we don't swamp up this music thread which carries topics of all music. I mean i see hip hop songs on here the most lol.

They sound pretty good. I'll check them out. Drug free? Thats surprising. I was also surprised to learn that one of my favorites, CCR, was anti-drug. Proud Mary was about a riverboat, not drugs. Lookin out my back door was about a children's book, not hallucinating.
Your comment about crazy brings to mind a Crue story i find entertaining. I read in Tattoos and Tequila that they bought cap-guns. They would ride the tour bus down the road and shoot at bicyclists who would fall of their bikes in fear. They also had a cap gun war in a hotel lobby where they overturned sofas to make forts and they fought with each other. Pretty ballsy.

my father has that book which i have been waiting to read. I need to steal it from him one of these days.
BTW that sounds fun to have a cap gun war!

The Iron Maiden albums that don't have bruce on are:
Iron Maiden
Killers
The x factor
Virtual IV

The last 2 above have Blaze Bayley who is an okay singer. He is more of a bariotne bass dude lol.
The first 2 were the first 2 albums with Paul D' ainno who was just bizarre. I like the music but not the vocals on those. Bruce does better versions of the songs on all these 4 albums.

Iron maiden has been related to Rush a lot. So if you like Rush...

Skynyrd - Free Bird

Hard to remember a day gone by where I didn't listen to that one at least once.

That's the one song I can't listen to on the radio if they play the whole solo. I'll be in a 35 mph zone, then the solo comes on and by the end of the thing I'm doing 80.
