Trade Ray Lewis Now!

49 posts in this topic

I believe in free speech, and defend your right to susggest this as a result, but disagree that the Ravens do not have the will to resign Ray Lewis. I think Ray going elsewhere is inconceivable and hope the Ravens will do everything to resign him.

NO WAY! Trading Ray Lewis the like the Orioles trading Cal Ripken. Ray Lewis is the heart of this team and defense. I agree that at the end of the year Ray will sign a 2-3 year deal than retire after that. I honestly believe Ray Lewis is going to want to do something with the Ravens after he retires. I believe that when Ray Lewis retires he will want to become the new Defensive Coordinator for the Ravens. He won't be out there but he will be able to help mentor the young guys on defense. I think Ray Lewis would make one heck of a defensive coordinator for the Ravens. Ray Lewis began his Hall of Fame Career with the Ravens and he will end his Hall of Fame Career with the Ravens. Period.

We all know Ray Lewis is probably the greatest LB of all time, but considering his age your probably not going to get full trade value for a player of his caliber (i.e. players or draft choices that would make up for the loss of Ray

Lewis). The same thing is keeping Tony Gonzalez from being traded out of Kansas City. Secondly, even if we DID get everything we wanted for Ray, I know I for one would die a little inside if I ever saw him playing in another jersey.

Ray IS the Baltimore Ravens. I want to watch his last game in NFL. I want to partake in whatever fanfare comes along with him retiring. I want to see the number 52 retired when he leaves. I want watch his induction into the Hall of

Fame. And, I want to know that he did it all as a Raven. Someday we will all get to tell our grandchildren stories about how we watched Big Ray, the greatest LB and Raven to ever play the game of football, tattoo offensive players around the league with

the number 52 week in and week out.

Call me selfish, but that's what I want. ;)
So do u think we will have to let both Suugs and Scott go after this season. Suggs said last night on his show that the Raven's should first sign Ray Lewis and then do what they can to keep the other 2. With in the next few years someone is going to have to take 52's place and next year someone may have replace both Suugs and Scott. Suggs is a beast there is no doubt about that and I like him better at the LB position rather than DE. Scott on the other hand, I like his personallity and energy but I think he is a product of his enviroment(Ed Hartwell like). The question now maybe who will replace these 2 in our defense? I want Ray to stay forever like all Raven's fan but at the end of the day if a decision is not in the best interest of the team then it does the team no good. So will it be easier to replace 1 guy or 2 guys.
Ray talks the talk, and walks the walk.
Can Bart and Sizzle say that every game? Bart can be replaced. Sizzle, I'm still waiting to see him live up to the high pedastal he was placed on.

The only other player I see on our defense that is consistent is Reed. Letting Ray go to another team would be HUGELY deflating to us the fans and our team. When Ray is not in, there is something missing on the field. You just don't feel like our team has its heart and soul out there.

I cannot imagine the time when 52 is not hunched over in the middle.

I must admit though...I am floored that a guy with the Ravens' logo tatoo'ed on his shoulder would even mention trading Ray Lewis. ????
I liked the analogy of comparing it to the O's trading Cal; even Penn State releasing Jo Pa.

Yeah but you fail to realize he doesn't have a Ray Lewis tattoo, it's a "RAVENS" tat. No player is bigger than the team and it surprises me how many people yell blasphemy when trading him is mentioned. If we can get a 2nd/3rd round pick plus some late picks in addition then I say trade him. We need to free up cap space and we need some fresh young receivers for Flacco to throw to. The D has played fine without him in the past and we need to invest in our offence

I dont care if they gave us randy moss or TO for ray lewis... That guy has been with us since day 1 and has stuck with he teams through good times and bad... He the face of Baltimore... When you talk about Baltimore defense, They think ray Lewis first and then the rest of the rat pack... Your insane for thinking of getting rid of Lewis...

Love Ray Lewis .. 52 is awesome no doubt .. is energy and commitment to excellence IMO is unmatched by Anyone ! I personally hope he has 2 maybe 3 more good healthy playing years ! but let's be real people .. look at Cal ripken .. did keeping Cal too long at short really help the Orioles ? there does come a time to brinig in the up and comers !

Even though I understand what the original poster is saying, I don't think it will happen. Not having ray would free up a BUNCH of money to add some punch to the offense, but it would be like if the Orioles traded Cal Ripken jr. I mean, how sick would it make you to see Ray playing for any other team? But then again, who ever thought we would see Brett Favre wearing a NY Jets uniform?

THANK YOU! Let me ask a question, CAN you read? I want Ray to stay but at what cost to our team? How much is to much and how much is not enough at the end of the year? At my house my biggest RAVE"s picture is of Ray Lewis in the all black Pitch Black promotion and it is autographed. I have the 52 jersey in every color and 2005 Pro-Bowl. So yeah I like Ray Lewis but I LOVE the RAVEN's and there is no player bigger than my team! So how will it play out Ray stays we give him a big pay out. That's fine but now fill in the gaps! ;)

Well maybe he might decide to take a GIANT pay cut or decide to retire.

If you look at it this way.

1. The man has made his money
2. If he has already made his money he probably wants another ring
3. To be the best MLB in the history of the NFL

and

4. Even said himself he bleeds purple & black

Hes done quite a lot for our team already. What makes you guys think he probably wont do more?

Do you honestly think hed want to go to a different team with a defense thats probably not as good as ours?

I sure as hell wouldnt if I played like Ray Lewis.

I hope that is what he does. In my mind I know he want this team to be the best it can be and I do not think he puts himself before that. ;)

Marc2k6 you make excellent points and you seem like one hell of a fan. Thanks for being supportive for the ravens. Some fans would rather criticize the players and bring the team down but you don't seem like that kind of fan.

I understand fully what you are saying and I agree to an extent but he's still a great player and we need all the great players we can get this season. If he decides to walk next year, I'll be heart broken and the Ravens D would never be the same but life goes on. I am not a big fan of trading him. He's a 33 year old linebacker, his value on the open market compared to his value to this team just doesnt match. We wouldnt get better then a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him (thats a very generous offer), when for this team he's probably worth at least a 1st.

I think he'll retire as a Raven just like his draft mate J.O. I definatly don't want him wearing anything but purple, and Ray Lewis said it himself, when he feels he can't play like he knows how to then he's done. I just hope he gets what he's after before then, u know what I mean.

Nobody should ever think Ray Lewis would leave Baltimore. Ray Lewis is Baltimore! You ever been to a game and seen Ray's Force. The man is a monster, He keeps the other players motivated at all times, He plays hurt and hes a fan favorite. Ravens would most likely offer him any price he asked. Ray will 100% Retire a Raven.
