2000 Super Bowl Rematch

45 posts in this topic

How would you feel about a rematch against the Giants in the Super Bowl this year. I know I know, lets just win the next game 1st, but it's always nice to think big. Honestly, Eli is playing lights out right now and just like their last Super Bowl win, they're peaking at the right time.

Ravens would definitely have to put someone on Victor Cruz and their running game is coming around.

Don't like that I am even responding to a post with "SB' mentioned, but the board is lacking any substance right about now, so here goes!

I would prefer (in this order) San Fran, Atlanta, Detroit, NY, NO and then GB. So, they'd be in the back half of my preference. All in all, a Balt/NY rematch would be a great way to grab another and send Ray and Ed out on top!!

That is the only reason I posted it. The board has been pretty dead after we clinched the 2nd seed.

I'd have to say that if we beat the giants again in the superbowl that may just make them my 2nd favorite team (2 SB wins both aginst the giants). would also make next years game aginst them that much more exciting

Peaking at the right time? They're 3-5 in the second half of the season and those three wins have all come against teams that have been absolutely imploding (the Cowboys twice, who finished 1-4 and the Jets who finished 0-3).

Eli Manning has been playing lights out? In only one of his last 5 games has he had a completion percentage over 60%. Three weeks ago against Washington he threw zero TDs and three interceptions. Two weeks ago against the Jets he went 9 of 27 passing. He had a great game against the Cowboys this last week,, but the Cowboy's pass defense is terrible.

Hell, after making this post, I'm going to go move my pick of the Falcons in the confidence pool to a high confidence.

I just heard this am that Eli holds the record of 9 come from behind TDs thrown in the 4th QTR this season. Whatever you want to say about him, he's getting it done in crunch time.

I would feel good about this only if we won. Not only would it suck to lose but at the start of the season I made a bet with my friend( a Giants fan). The bet was whichever team wins a SB first would win 50. I'm already behind currently in other season bets because the Ravens couldn't keep a hold on #1 in sacks and both of us know if both our teams did make the SB the loser will be hearing much [poop] for a very long time. Hell I still laugh at him about 2000. Would probably be a good game though.

And knowing Cam's play calling, we'd be up by 2 scores and then decide to run the entire rest of the game. Then get beat by Eli late in the 4th.

That being said. The Giants will probably have a tough game when the Falcons come to town this Sunday :)

I'd pass. A lot of times in a rematch, the team that originally lost becomes the victor. Just like we feel we are going to get past the Steelers this year. The Giants would feel they get past us.

Their passing game scares me. They can run the ball. Their D Line is finally getting healthy and playing up to par. They've won before.

But in the end. I ofcourse would love a rematch, because it means we'd be in the Super Bowl!!!!

If we could contain their pass rush and Cruz then I'd feel good about our chances of beating them (we'll see next regular season for sure, of course).

That's easier said than done however.

I don't think you can look at a game from 10 years ago and really worry about it.

Different players and Coaches, it just doesn't mean diddly.

I don't care who it is as long as we make it! RAVENS SMASH!

It'd be NY, 49ers, Atl, Detroit, GB and then NO for me.

Giants are the easiest out in the NFC.

I don't think a game from 11 years ago would have any implications on this game... Eli Manning was 20 when we played that Super Bowl. Flacco was 16.

I didn't think there would be any implications. Only Karma. But the Giants have won a Super Bowl since then, so all Karma should be a wash.

Would just like to make it there. Don't feel that the Giants will get by ATL this weekend, and if they do, probably have zero shot at getting by GB.

The Packers will make the Super Bowl. They have a backup quarterback setting NFL records. How in the heck do you stop that?

The odds are slim to none for that rematch...GB &NO would need a major meltdown for the Giants to get there.

Man, I must be opposite guy from you. I don't see Atlanta playing outside of a dome in the cold and winning this game. They haven't won a playoff game in a long while. Giants playing at home against a bad Defense and a dome offense. I see the Giants winning that game.

I actually think the Packers get knocked out. The weather is going to get worse in Green Bay. Now I believe Rodgers can still get it done. But it will be a factor. Plus they rank dead last in defense. Rodgers will not have played in 3 weeks.

I could see a Giants team go into Green Bay and knock them out in the divisional round. Or the Saints playing on fire. Saints at least have a competent defense. Green Bay can't stop the Saints offense either.

You could very well be right. I don't see Atlanta going in there and winning as much as the Giants just blowing it. They've been good at doing that all too often this year, and I think they used up too much against Dallas last week. However, they could have just caught fire, and if that's the case, I do see them having some potential. Atlanta's secondary can be effective with Grimes back, though--so they may be able to slow Cruz down.

Green Bay is not unbeatable and the Saints on any given day can beat any football team that has ever played the game. It wouldn't surprise me to see either GB or NO make it. I just had to become a believer after what Flynn did last week. Maybe it is the coaching, system, receivers more than just Rodgers, but honestly, if that's the case--that really isn't much consolation to opposing teams.

It's the playoffs, though. We could very well both be eating our words as we watch Matthew Stafford and Ndamukong stomp their way into the Super Bowl!

They arent really that good of a team, but if this game were to happen, they match up to us well enough to keep it pretty close if they bring their A game.
But, we'd control most of the game...I think we'd win by 10 - 13 points.

So yeah! Wouldnt mind the rematch.

I agree with that for the most part, but i would rather play the Giants than the Lions. Just not sold on Eli.

I hear you my brother's a Giants fan and I hear all the garbage about NFCE champs now as it is lol. If they beat us I'd have to move. Plus I've been flaunting our SB win in his face a long time hahaha. We're both going to our perspective playoff games of the postseason too.

On topic, I'd love to play the NY Giants though. A 2nd victory would be so sweet. I don't want to play GB or NO at all because they will attack our secondary.

Its hard to believe. But Tony Gonzalez has also never won a playoff game. He's 0-4 in his career.

Agreed. I would MUCH rather Ryan go without a playoff win. Perfect scenario is that Joe wins a Super Bowl before Ryan wins a playoff game.

So having the giants as my "sleeper" pick wouldnt be well received here would it?
They are mine too, so i agree with you. People think that the Packers would light them up, well when they played, the Packers won 38-35. But that was on a questionable touchdown. The giants could've easily won that game. I'm usually not a "coulda, shoulda, woulda" type of person, but the Packers can be beat. Their offensive line is destroyed by injuries, and their defense isn't very good at all.

But back to the topic, i wouldn't mind a rematch. My best friend is Giants fan, so i already told him if it happens, don't expect to talk much the week leading up to the SB hahaha.

I think if we played the Giants it'd actually be a heck of a game. Our teams have a lot in common, we're just in different divisions so our teams focuses are a little different but we are fundamentally the same teams. (Giants focusing on the pass first, Ravens on the run first)

It would depend which Eli shows up. We would have a tough time taking away Cruz and Nicks together, and their Oline can be elite at times. I feel we match up fairly well with them though, HBs in general don't do too much damage to us. This game would come down to whether or not Tuck/JPP/Umenyiora decided to completely obliterate our Oline. Simple as that.
