Jeff Fischer - New St. Louis Rams Head Coach

27 posts in this topic

Interesting hire. The guy has definitely been a head coach a long time, but I thought the theme these days was finding the hot new coordinator or college coach. Kind of think he's a similar guy to Spagnolo - no nonsense attitude, likes to play good defense and run the football. Probably a good fit considering they have Stephen Jackson and some good defensive players.

Very possible, but nothing is confirmed yet - "According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, "it is all but certain" that Jeff Fisher will be the Rams' next head coach."

I think its an excellent fit for both parties.

Sure the team was dreadful this year, but at the end of the day they have a promising young QB, a pro-bowl RB (who should still give you some really good years), and some talent on defense.

This. For anyone following this then you know Jeff Fisher is interviewing in MIAMI and was picked up by Owner Stephen Ross on one of his private planes and taken to Miami for the interview.

I don't really care where he coaches. As long as he brings back the mullet to the NFL coaching ranks.

Seems like Fisher is getting ready to choose his destination. Jeff Fisher is reportly close to becoming the next Head Coach of the St. Louis Rams. It's nothing final but Fisher is expected to choose the Rams over the Dolphins either next week or "sooner."

Good move if he goes to the Rams. Franchise QB in place with a good WR, probably bring in another one or solidify that OL. Young defense that will improve next year, could use a CB/LB in the draft. It's definitely a team on the upswing

Plus their is no GM there. Where in Miami you would have to deal with Jeff I. So by going to the Rams you have a say in the process.

Where do you start off first in St Louis? OL? WR? CB? LB?

I'd go oline. The game is won in the trenches!

There is just so many things wrong with them. And the time they start getting good Steven Jackson will most likely be done, which is sad to me because he's so talented and has grinded it out with them

Thats true. They have too many holes, and he's been wasted there.

I think the Rams need to trade him for two reasons, get more Draft Picks to help build for the future and allow Jackson to go elsewhere and be on a competitive team. The problem with that is what playoff contender needs a RB and could use Steven Jackson?

Agreed. Hmmm. Jets maybe, first they need to get a QB though lol. Lions? But they already have 2 good young ones already. Idk.

I wouldn't even know who would trade for him, maybe Dallas giving up a 1st round pick to get him. Regardless, giving up a 1st round pick for Steven Jackson would be worth it for any team. If I'm doing a Franchise with the Rams on Madden, every off-season after the first year I always trade him for more picks.

Good. Now draft Matt Kalil before Sam Bradford has more nightmares of Jason Smith and Rodger Saffold getting him killed when he actually gets healthy.

Kalil on the left, move Saffold to the right and try Smith out at guard or cut him before Bradford goes the way of David Carr.

This, if they ignore the offensive line Sam Bradford is going to catch the David Carr syndrome and be out of the league. We saw what Matthew Stafford can do when he is healthy, so I'm really wondering if Bradford can be just as good when he is healthy and plays for 16 games.

Also... please Jeff Fisher trade Steven Jackson and let him go to a team who can be a contender so he can stop wasting away on a team who is somehow constantly rebuilding.

Saints DC Gregg Williams to join Fisher staff?

It was a good hire, but the Rams have a LONG way to go. I'm not at all sold on Bradford. He's a Big 12 QB... give him all day and an open receiver, and he will indeed throw a pretty ball, but put some pressure on him, and he folds like a cheap suit. Very little improvisational ability (which is so crucial in the league). I remember his supposed "breakout rookie season," and his performances against Ds that weren't ranked 30-something--he looked atrocious. The Lions turned him into a pincushion and the Seahawks, with the playoffs on the line... he looked like the second coming of John Beck. His line is atrocious and he WAS a rookie, but again, until he does something that warrants the hype, I'm not buying it. I also don't buy that he has the ability to stay healthy--he couldn't even do it against Utah State. Why would he be able to take the punishment at this level?

I think that Fisher is a heck of a dude though, and the way he quietly supported his son from the background (in order to not usurp any of the coach's authority) when he was a LB at the University of Montana spoke greatly to his character.

Well unless they trade out the players that would be there for them are most likely Blackmon or either Kalil. They could go Morris Claiborne, but why draft a corner if your quarterback is going to get killed anyway and/or has nobody to throw to?

I remember once upon a time Jason Smith was supposed to the "safest" pick out of a draft class.
