Purple Punishment

Colts....

Is it just me? I am sitting here wondering why every single analyst is saying, trade Peyton Manning, take Andrew Luck.

Im no analyst but I know one thing. I dont care who you have in at QB on the Colts, they are not well protected. I say, the Colts should really consider trading their pick to stockpile on picks, stay in the first round, take RG3 and draft a plethora of talent to protect Manning and Griffin in the future, and take some good youthful defensive players, you know, to stop teams from making them lose games.

I know Andrew Luck could be the next Peyton Manning but what good will he be if he cant even be protected? Anyone who thinks he will come in and be better than Painter or Orlovsky for at least two seasons is just drinking that kool aid.

Frankly, I wouldnt put it past the Colts to drop Manning, I mean they turned their backs on Baltimore, who the hell is Peyton Manning to them? Only one of the greatest QBs in NFL History and the man that brought a great amount of respectability back to Indianapolis. As far as I can remember, the Colts made the playoffs one time in the 90s? Manning has got them there almost every year. The thought of cutting him is just ridiculous

so what you trade the one pick to browns for example, you get their no.4 pick, they pick luck, and you wait at 4 knowing St louis and the Vikings have their frachise QBs in their eyes, so you know luck will fall.

What then happens if Washington trade with rams/vikings to get ahead of the colts and pick RG3?

that means the colts miss out on a franchise QB, what if manning cant go next year? they ll be stuck in the same mess?

To big a risk, unless Manning is def, def coming back and you will get 3/4 years out of him

Manning is old people.. Time to at least find his replacement..
This would be about as bad as the good ole Sam bowie deal if colts were to skip on luck an he turned out to be half as good as everyone is saying

Find his replacement, but dont replace him just yet.
Let luck train and learn from the master.

Give it a season or two, give him a few snaps here and there and give Peyton a parade for a send off and throw a party for the new franchise QB.

Sounds simple enough to me.

I think Luck would be a mistake for the Colts. They need a complete overhaul, not a gambling away of their current HOF QB by drafting another. Like I said, even if Luck is as good as Manning, that'll amount to one Super Bowl win in 11 years. And Manning only won when he had some kind of defensive help. Right now Luck would have no one. Rebuild during the last few Manning years, then go find a superstar QB who can evolve with the rest of the playmakers they can draft from now until then.

i live in colts territory, i have been telling people for the last half of the season they should trade manning for a new offensive line. the texans, titans, and jags all have above average defenses and the colts have one of the worst offensive lines in the league. doesn't matter who the qb is if you can't protect him he will turn out like david carr or joey harrington

They'd have to pay his $28M March 8th (maybe 3rd, don't recall the exact date) roster bonus in order to trade him. Trade isn't happening! He's either a Colt or he's cut next year.

Draft Luck, keep Manning. Play with Manning, see how he responds, if he doesnt look the same start Luck. But I honestly dont know if any QB can survive that OL they have

First off, they asked Luck about going to the Colts and sitting behind Manning. While he said all the right words, you could feel the underlying attitude there that he wants to go somewhere he will be the starter. I wouldn't be surprised if a power play by Dad comes about if the Colts aren't willing to guarantee him a start.

Secondly, the Colts would be foolish to put all their eggs into one basket yet again. Leaving themselves in much the position they are in this season. One injury to their QB and they are done. Peyton might have gotten them invited to the dance all those years but they only have one Lombardi to show for it.

Thirdly, if Peyton can go, it would be low of the Colts to dump him just so they can give Luck the guaranteed starting job he wants IMO. Oh wait. Yeah, they're owned by an Irsay. Nevermind. It could happen.

Jets will offer to pick up Mannings $28M roster bonus and Manning will be in green and white next year. Bank on it! Its just dumb enough for the Jet organization to pull off!

Ha, well played...although, my post was more a joke to simply point out the idiocy that runs that orgnization. They would be able to get him without a hefty roster bonus if/when he is cut.

No Audible allowed in the Jets offense.....The dude with his genius football IQ might have to wait for Schottenheimer to call plays....*timed out*

Schottenheimer either gets a Head Coaching gig or he'll be fired. The Jets fans hate him almost as much as we hate Cam and, to be fair to them, he seems completely inept.

Could he be like a Brett Favre? Get picked up by another team and continue to succeed in that team. Now he is not as old as Favre but still it could happen, as long as the place he ends up going has a few offensive weapons. This is a debate that will go right up till the first draft pick is announced. I'm not sure if we will ever know.

Dumb enough? If we had room to pull Manning in without cutting key players I'd want Ozzie to do it. If Peyton can win with scrubs on the defensive side of the ball and no running game ever I'd imagine he can do it with the defense we have, Ray Rice, the young TEs and Boldin+Torrey.

Yes, in the context in which I wrote that post, dumb enough!! Pay a $28M roster bonus to get the guy and lose everyone else with Mannings contract is something that the Jets would/could do. I would be livid if Ozzie did this. It was more or less a hypothetical joke anyway!
