The same Jon Gruden who said during the Redskins-Ravens game in the pre-season that John Beck was the best kept secret in the NFL? And that he would bet anything he had that John Beck would be the starter for the Redskins in week 1? Jon Gruden is always over the top with everything, everybody is just a little better than they actually are when you hear him talk.Im watching georgia vs michigan st and georgia has a MLB ogletree thats all over the field. Gruden is saying that he has 1st round talent and is only a RS sophmore. He is already playing in a 3-4 at georgia and if we wait a year maybe we can get him as a ray replacement.

He's a violent hitter with the vision of a ball-hawking safety ~ after all, he was recruited as the nation's #3 safety (ironically, he dropped as far as #3 because his coverage skills, as a 6'3, 210lb 17yr-old, were justifiably less refined than some...). Despite his safety/WR instincts/hands, he's right at home clogging holes, shooting gaps, and busting heads indiscriminately; and with an extra 20-30lbs of muscle...he's quite at home leading the defense from the inside linebacker position.
I won't pretend to be unbiased: I graduated from UGA..........and I watched Alec and his twin brother, Zander (who plays fullback for the Dawgs), grow up and play football where I also played (they were also both great basketball'ers).
REGARDLESS: I wouldn't dare to make the Ray Ray comparison.....out loud, at least....but since you mentioned him [Alec] as a potential replacement, I'll say that you're definitely on the right track. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Ray an outstanding running back and all-around athlete in high school? Also, wasn't he a legit 4.5 guy...covering ridiculous space, without sacrificing physicality? Well...I think Alec might be just the guy to fill in for Ray Ray...and that's BY NO MEANS to say that he could EVER replace Ray Lewis---as a player, teammate, specimen, or leader....but what more could you want from the replacement for the greatest and most outspoken linebacker in history----a quietly, yet vicious specimen that brings speed you haven't seen from Ray in a decade, who leads by example and talks with his shoulder pads........? Y'all are thinking....and I respect that!

Ogletree needs to put on some weight, though. He looks a little small to be a Mike or even an ILB. Maybe it's just his frame, though. Either way, I think he has a lot of talent.

You make a lot of good points about Ogletree. I agree with most of them. He plays a lot like a safety playing linebacker. That's my biggest knock on him. He has very good instincts, hits pretty well, and is pretty good in pass coverage. I don't think I agree completely about him being a complete liability in the run, though. Regardless, he needs work. He two biggest problems are not getting juked and weight. He's got to add at least 20 lbs to make it inside.I am not sure I would be wiling to spend a first on him right now - after watching him against Florida yesterday he really does not stand out that much, he missed several tackles (he tackles like a S, which he used to be, and dives alot and I rarely notice him making solid form tackles) also he has alot of trouble taking on blocks. He really needs to add some bulk and technique to his game. I will not deny however he is a beast in the pass game, but he is a complete liability in the run. I would much rather us use a third on a guy like Bostic
I'm still holding out hope that somehow we can get Te'o, as unrealistic as that is. I also like Jackson.
Edit: also, I'm very tempted to hope we can get Nix, the DT who is a big reason why Te'o is doing so well. He's a beast. If we can't get Te'o, I'd rather we draft him if we can and get an ILB in the 2nd round.

Ogletree is listed at 232. I dont think he needs to add much weight at all, maybe 5 or 10 at the most. Wasnt Ray playing under 240? We dont need another 250+ LB that is too slow to stay on the field for 3rd downs. A fast, athletic LB like Ogletree is exactly what our D needs. That and a NT. And a DE. And an Ed Reed replacement.

Perhaps "at least 20" was a little extreme, lol. Regardless, I think he needs to be between 240-250. He's 6'3" if I'm not mistaken. I think Ray is like 6'1"? I think he needs another 10-15lbs.Ogletree is listed at 232. I dont think he needs to add much weight at all, maybe 5 or 10 at the most. Wasnt Ray playing under 240? As for the needs, I think we need the LDE & then NT. After that, everything else will sort itself out, I think. The line needs to be reworked more than anything. I also still believe Reed returns.

Agreed I would be surprised if he currently weighs in at 232 even. He really does look lanky out there. If he becomes a more aggressive and downhill player this may not be an issue but from what I have seen he can get washed down the line alot and allowing OL to initiate contact. In many ways he reminds me physically of Martez Wilson when he was coming out and I think he should hold the same 2nd round value. Combine may drastically help him though, any guesses on his combine numbers - I will go with 6'3, 240, 4.45 40yd dash, 24 bench reps.
We do need an athletic game changing ILB and his potential is truly amazing but I am with Grim that the DL is more of a need. Plus I worry of his bust factor

And... And.... And... Lol we've a lot of holes, but the ones you listed are our main ones. Possibly sold if Kruger goes, a pass rush specialist one. Possibly a cb for depth of Cary goes. I think we need on starting caliber lineman. Possibly more backups if McKinnie and birk are gone.
It's scary to think about all the holes we have. It's going to be mighty hard to fill them this year.
