Our Sizz And DPOY

Who else is in the discussion?

The only other player I can think of is Jared Allen, who I do believe came within a whisker of tying Strahan's sack record yesterday.

i think it´s also woodson or ware. i think suggs has had most of an impact of those guys. he does´t only rush the passer. he is also playing the run and getting INTs in the pass coverage. he forces fumbles and creates turnovers. he is the DPOY for me.

but i doubt he will get the award as he plays for the ravens...

I also think it'll come down to Sizzle, Allen, Woodson and Ware... Also, Pierre-Paul might be an honorable mention... He's giving his all for the Giants week after week

When is this decided upon? Whens the announcement made?
Week before the SB, I think.

And I just have a very sinking feeling that it will go to Allen....even getting remotely close to Strahan's record is a feat.

Ware is definitely outshined by Allen and Woodson hasn't done anything spectacular on a terrible secondary. Both of those guys have no chance IMO. It's down to Allen, Pierre-Paul, and Suggs. Frankly even Revis doesn't deserve to be on this list at all this year. I've seen him beat too many times.

It's likely going to be just between Allen and Suggs, though Ware and Woodson might pilfer a few votes from Suggs.

Allen did come within a half sack of the record for sacks in a season and also led the NFL in sacks.

But Suggs led the AFC in sacks (8 less than Allen, but the AFC is generally considered harder to get to the QB.)

Suggs led the NFL in forced fumbles, and had more interceptions than any of the other sack leaders.

I think Suggs has a damn good chance of pulling it down because he's been the best player on one of the best defenses and a playoff team in the NFL this year, whereas Allen has just been the best player on a terrible defense on one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Yeah, but the Vikings were terrible while Sizzle's contributions actually propelled us to a division championship and #2 seed. He has to get it because he does more than just get sacks.

Its a close race. But the fact that suggs sacks, forced fumb, int all mostly came in a CRITICAL time and the fact that we are in a playoff might edge him out vs. Allen.

Allen had a great season, but he already had DPOY before. I think its time Suggs deserve a DPOY after all these years. We'll see what happens.

Suggs game last night put him back into the picture I think, and that fumble which led to us winning the game has to hold some weight. Allen is a phenomenal player, I've just never been big on giving awards to guys on teams that are straight horrible.

Not Jared's fault they sucked. It's obvious that Jared Allen did everything he possibly could to make that team win.

In my opinion, it goes to Allen. As 1/28/01 said Suggs disappeared too many games. You don't get 21.5 sacks without showing up to every game.

IMO its Suggs,Pierre-Paul,Allen, Smith
Suggs statline is better then all of them when put together, also his impact on our D is irreplaceable.
Atleast we know a steeler wont get it that doesnt deserve it. :D

Well if Suggs does his usual inte playoffs, it'll e easier for them to give it to him

If Suggs does the Bernie in the playoffs, I think he gets it. Also remember that Suggs is the one who told us and the NFL about Ball So Hard University. That should impact his status.

I think Suggs is the best all around defensive player in the game. Allen has the sacks and the sexier stats, but Suggs is the complete package. Just because he doesn't get sacks every week, doesn't mean he's disappearing. He plays the run better than any other candidate and shows up in the big games, and let's be honest, he gained a lot of respect across the league for beasting when Ray was out. Suggs has a real chance imo.

Sorry to say, but I feel he disappeared in too many games....Jared Allen will get DPOY.
he did disappear in some games but he stepped up big time in a lot of big games. the steelers game at home when he had 3 sacks. the steelers game on the road with that big pick when they were about to score. and then last night with the huge fumble which completely changed the game. also the 49er game which was on national tv. and just the fact that he's on a team thats the 2 seed and won their division whereas the vikings were challenging the colts for the number one pick. i think it will be close though

All I can say is thank goodness the Bears didn't take a dive for Allen like Favre did for Strahan or Sizz wouldn't have a chance at all.

To add to the discussion, I'm not sure if this is still the case but a couple years back when the Vikes were contenders and got more national press Allen was often ridiculed for taking plays off. Read: Obvious run downs. He may have turned it around since then but everyone knows that Suggs of leaving it all on the field night in and night out.

I hope this fact weighs on the decision.

JPP, Allen, Suggs, Ware, Revis, and Ngata will probably be the ones getting the votes. Someone might give Polamalu a vote off of name recognition, but those 6 will probably be the major vote getters.

Haloti is still an elite player, but I'd be surprised if he got one vote. Justin Smith is more deserving of DPOY recognition.

I have a feeling this year the voters will have a tough time deciding, so we will see a lot of votes for a lot of different players. But in the end I think the two best seasons on the defensive side of the ball were had by Allen and Suggs.

Suggs had an all around MVP season, while Jared had an incredible season, it didn't lead to direct success of the team. So my vote would go to Suggs.

I won't be surprised if someone other than the two gets the award.

Forgot about Smith, he could get some votes too.

i think it comes down to more than just stats, allen is on a horrible team and his defense is on the field a lot. sizzle has made so many big plays for us. for me suggs wrapped it up when he forced that turnover yesterday and stopped the bengals momentum

Na babin has no shot.. No player has a shot on a completely underachieving team.. Especially the most hyped team in a long time

Babin is terrible at anything but pass rushing, he cant play the run for anything.

No way is Babin more deserving of DPOY than JPP. Even with his sacks, he isn't more deserving of the award than Suggs.
