Props To Lardarius Webb

61 posts in this topic

The man got through the whole season without giving up 1 TD while playing in every game (although he didn't play much during SD) while getting 5 picks, 20 PDs, a TD, and a sack. He was also one of our better sound tacklers on defense and the one person on defense I trusted would show up and play at his best every game.
I think he deserves at least one thread recognizing this great accomplishment.
We need to pay him in the off season.

Here's to you Webb, hopefully you'll continue your great season in the playoffs.

Webb is great. He is a Pro Bowl snub this year. But like Sizzle said, we don't care about Pro Bowls.

Webb has potential to become a true shutdown corner for us, he already was this year. Hopefully Smith comes along and we can keep getting good play out of Cary Williams for a few years. For a spot thats supposed to be our weak spot, we are pretty solid at DB.

Cincy fans complaining about the last hail mary conveniently don't notice Green's hands all up in Webb's face mask.

Webb, you are the man. One of my favorite defenders.

I remember watching him in his rookie year and knowing that he'd be great. He's a special player. He sorta reminds me of Charles Woodson.

While he isn't exactly a shutdown corner.. He is turning into an excellent cornerback..
Dream scenario? Cary and jimmy develop as does gorrer and Webb takes over for reed???

Can a man dream?

the chargers game proved Webb is this defenses MVP. Suggs sizzled out in some games (mostly because of double teams)

I sort of wondered why he was sort of being ignored by fans during the offseason. When Cary Williams came out of nowhere it was always about him and Jimmy starting from day 1. Webb was lumped in with Carr and Foxworth. No one could have expected the kind of season he is having, but I always thought we were underrating him.

We were all worried about the injury and how he would rebound from his subpar second season. Webby quietly laughed at our silly fears.

Long shot but I could see it.. If jimmy turns out to be a stud, throw him on an island.
U have pollard as ur SS still and Webb as ur FS..
Would have to see more of gorrer before I'd say whether I'd put him on the outside or Cary..
I don't think gorrer has been in the slot at all yet..

This is all a complete long shot obviously just a few thoughts

Webb is becoming an all around good defensive back. It really helped that he was FS in college because while he doesn't have a huge frame he's not afraid to go hit someone bigger than him. His range of motion has really expanded and his instincts have improved. I credit a lot of his improvement to film study because he's been able to jump routes and read the QBs eyes very well. It's only his 3rd season but his knowledge of the game is that of a long time veteran.

I concur. Other than Suggs, Webb was the team's DPOY.

cosign this strong fact. I don't think we can resign him yet because of the other priorities but I wouldn't let him go period.

I would dispute this I've always been high on Webb even after the 3rd down debacle last season which I credit to the BS play call though Webb is responsible as well. I have always liked him though and though he and Jimmy was the better tandem.

Yeah, I remember when the press asked him about Jimmy Smith being drafted and he said something along the lines of "Why does he have to come in and replace me? Why can't we be the best corner tandem in the league?" Well Webb, maybe you aren't the best, but the list above you is short.

Actualy I think he had two TD's this year. There was the PR he had and also he had the pick six against the Jets I believe.

And, I mean, the great thing is that Jimmy Smith was the weak link. Lardarius Webb, a tiny little third-round corner, was OUR BEST COVER GUY. Now, I fully expect Jimmy to take over that position in the years to come, but he was supposed to be our number one guy the minute we drafted him. That's big.

If we put Jimmy and Webb on the outside, who are you gonna throw to? Especially if Gorrer and Williams continue to come along like they have, and with Reed ballhawking in the secondary and Pollard preparing to lauy all of the smack down on anyone who MIGHT catch the ball - honestly, who do you throw to?

God I'm excited about the future for this team.

(IF) Suggs gets the DPOY then Webb should get the team defensive MVP since he's the only one not going to the pro bowl out of the big names on defense. He's earned it.

I remember when we drafted him. Everyone was saying that he is too short for CB, but he could run well. I think that he has come along fine and he will be a factor in the playoffs.
