RR27! Pay Homage!

47 posts in this topic

Maybe Flacco will be a team guy and take some pay cut that a franchise QB usually gets in order to keep him, Grubbs and Rice in the same place. If Flacco were smart he'd do it. I despise the Steelers but I respect the fact their guys take pay cuts to keep valuable players.

ray should definitely get consideration for mvp. at least top 5. i know he wont win it because of rodgers but maybe it becomes closer because of what flynn did yesterday. although i doubt that. but just imagine our offense without him. we would be at the bottom of the league. i could definitely see him getting afc offensive player of the year with brees and rodgers ahead of him for the whole league

Honestly, with the way Flacco has outplayed his rookie contract, he's already taken one for the team. Just like Ray Rice, he deserves to get paid, and it deserves to be this offseason (even though Flacco has one year left).

Also, depending on a few factors (Ray Lewis and Ed Reed might retire) we could have a lot more cap room than expected, which would allows us to re-sign Ray Rice, Grubbs, and give Flacco an extension.

We're not nearly in as dire straits as the Steelers were this season as far as cap room and the Steelers are going to be much worse off next season than they were this year. For all the paycuts that players took this year to help them, they won't be able to ask again next year.

Big Ben definitely didn't take a pay cut when he got a new contract. If Joe's smart he won't take anything less than a franchise QB type of contract. Everyone wants players to "take one for the team," but just look at a guy like Matt Forte who played his heart out on a contract that wasn't worthy of him. Now he's injured and the Bears will use that against him in negotiations.

I would of like to see how DMC, Jamaal Charles and Fred Jackson would of done if they had played a full season. But I guess that what makes Rice special, he is in shape and takes care of his body, and avoids injury....and yes i knocked on wood before finishing this sentence.

I pay my respect and homage to our runningback Ray Rice. Every team has that tail-back that is good enough to make the pro bowl but never to achieve the ring of honor or the HOF.. We have a running-back the likes of Jamal Lewis and he has a chance to play himself into the Hall of fame!!!

Also worthy of note.

Ray Rice led the league in yards from scrimmage.

He was 2nd in rushing yards (to MJD)

He was 2nd in rushing touchdowns (to LeSean McCoy)

He's now only the second running back in NFL history to have at least 1200 yards rushing and 700 yards receiving in multiple season (Marshall Faulk)

Big Ben restructured his contract, so did James Harrison. I don't mean straight up taking 30 mil less than he could get, but if Im Flacco I know my success depends GREATLY on Ray Rice AND Ben Grubbs. I'd get together with those two as a a team leader and try to work something out so they could all stay.

Also, I think Harrison and Ben just deferred money to later in their contracts to help out this year as opposed to actually taking pay cuts.

If I remember correctly there was alot of members who suggested we dont keep Rice, saying he can easily be replaced.
[/quote]

No , if i remember correctly it was a choice, who would you rather keep, Rice or Flacco. I'll man up and say i picked Flacco and still i have to say id pick Flacco still, Barely but still. But who cares we have the best of both worlds.

Th scary thing is that if Rice weren't such a damn good receiver, he'd probably lead the league in rushing.

Honestly, with how much of a class act Ray Rice has been all season, I think there's a decent chance that the Ravens manage to get a new contract done before they have to use the Franchise tag on him. If they managed to do that, then they could drop the tag on Grubbs to hang onto him.

I think that Cam and his system has to be given some credit for Ray's success. Obviously, Ray is a great back but LaDainian put up some remarkable numbers with Cam in San Diego. Ray is now doing the same thing. I know many of you will respond, "Yeah, but LT and Ray are great." I agree but I wanted to see what Cam's running back did the year he was in Miami. After seven games, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury, Ronnie Brown of all people was leading the NFL in total yards from scrimmage. I know Cam is the scapegoat for everything that ever happens bad to the Ravens but Ray should consider him a blessing 90 percent of the time.

Uhhh Ronnie was an elite back in his prime and their passing attack was anchored by the legendary Cleo Lemon...lots of factors in play here.

Ray Rice is a class act. No holding out and pouting due to contract issues. Just went out and balled so hard. And still has my fav. moment of year when he did the Ray Lewis dance at the dec. 13th game lol.

Ronnie Brown had more receptions and more yards in seven games with Cam in 2007 (39 carries for 389 yards) than he did in an entire year at any other point in his career (other highs were 33 receptions and 276 yards. He also averaged 5.1 yards a carry. He was on pace for more than 1,300 rushing yards. Only once has he ever reached the 1,000-yard plateau (1,008 yards in 2006). I'm not sure how you consider a running back who one time in his career rushed for 1,000 yards an "elite back."
