Ray Lewis Gets "Picked On" In Coverage?

154 posts in this topic

THose stats are crazy, really not surprised that Urlacher and Ray are the top two in pass coverage. Timmons must cover a lot of WR's because his stats are surprisingly bad.

I love Ray but he has definitely been a liability in pass coverage. The chargers motioned their rb out couple weeks they had success and then the browns tried that last week and got a first down. They talk about this on nfl.com playbook.

One pass was caught on Ray for a first down when they motion out the RB and now Ray is a liability in coverage. What LB in the league isn't a liability when either a RB or a TE is motioned wide?

Could you post the numebrs for Michael Boley? He seems to be a good coverage LB and is always praised by the analysts for it. I'm curious if the numbers speak for him.

No matter how convincing those stats are (and believe me I agree Ray is absolutely not a liability, the fear he instills across the middle of the field is palpable) the bickering will continue

I only read part of the first page and some of the last so if I missed something, forgive me. Anyways, How does Lewis have 37 more coverage snaps than McClain when he missed 4 games? I find that hard to believe.

I'm not exactly sure, but we sub in Ellerbe and Ayanbedejo a lot for those coverage downs.

Remember Boley is an OLB but here are the numbers:

36/54, 66.7%, 328 Yards, 149 YAC, 2 TDs, 0 INT, 3 PDs, 95.3 QB Rating

It is funny that Boley is "praised" when he has a week when he was 9/13, 107 Yards, 1 TD, 119.7 QB Rating.

Ray has given up 19 Receptions all season and 0 TDs yet gets deemed a liability. It seems to be more about his age than the actual numbers.

Last week the Ravens gave up 256 Yards and 7 pts on defense yet Ray was a liability? If Cribbs doesn't return a kick for a TD and make the game interesting we wouldn't be hearing anything like that.

Dude facts are facts he is slow, and i hate to say this Ed reed has lost his pop as well. We must stay young, especially in our division to remain a factor. We have to think about life after them. We have to pay way to many people this off season for this not to be a good business decision. I love these guys and hate to say this. Im a fan a the team, players come and go. It really makes it hard to think about with the stats the op posted, but we must.

Ball so Hard! The refs wanna fine me!

You would think with 2 liabilities like Ray and Ed that Dalton would have done more than going 22/44...hmmm

The Facts are before the final drive (where the Ravens were playing a Cover 2 zone) Ray was 2/5 for 9 yards and a PD in coverage.

On the last drive a dump off to Lenord was complete in which Ray came up and made the tackle and also Dalton made a deep 31 yard pass between the deep safety and Ray in the Cover 2 which was a good play by Dalton.

So Ray ended up 4/8, 56 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 1 PD, 72.9 QB Rating

Slow or not, I will take that Rating.

Ray was great tonight. He really was. He moved sideline to sideline really well, honestly. And (as was provided with stats above) his coverage was above average to good!

Now Ed...I cannot say the same. This was one of his worst games Ive ever seen. And I am not talking about giving up yards or TDs, but more on his lack of burst, speed, aggression and overall football awareness! I was even rockin the 20 jersey tonight and I was shocked. We all were :(

Ray Ray got beat like a drum for what shouldve been a TD if not for an errant throw by Dalton
[/quote]
Yeah, he did get beat....as did D'qwell Jackson by Rice last week. It happens. He's not as bad in coverage as some think.

Did I say that? Are we even talking about trades here? Just pointing out that LB's get beat by RBs and WRs in coverage all the time.

A lot of teams are starting to find mismatches withRay in coverage. San Diego exposed that. Ive also realized ppl are using 5WR sets in motion to clear Ray from midfield because Ray and Pollard arent coverage players but excellent at stopping the run. Teams are avoiding the heck outta Ed Reed

Shockingly, that was the only instance all season where an ILB was beat by a RB.

There are 45 starting MLB/ILB in the NFL and Ray is the ONLY on3 that has been beat by a RB all season.

That being said our corners are doing a great job. Everybody wants Lee Evans gone I dont think so because him, Torrey, and Reed are our speedsters we longed for. Its not just Evans, Flacco has to get a connect as well. When that happens our WR corps will be great w/ our young TEs and Boldin back at health for the playoffs it would've been a confidence booster for Evans and Flacco if he wouldve caught the deep ball in Cincy but I have faith

What did San Diego do? Gates had just 2 catches that game. The big pass plays were all downfield to Floyd or Jackson in that game.

Didnt Ray Rice burn Cleveland linebacker in Cleveland for a TD let alone the entire D because Ray Rice has been doing it all season so the MLB/ILB thing cant be true

I was being sarcastic man lol.

People go way overboard with a play or two every game by any particular player.
