Wrong Message Or Smart Business Decision (Ravens Playoff Tickets)?

19 posts in this topic

I read my email today from the Ravens that stated they decided to postpone shipping playoff tickets from the scheduled 12/27 date to 1/3. Sounds like they want to make sure the Ravens will host a playoff game before they spend the PSL owner’s dollars for shipping. That way, they can pocket those shipping dollars if the Ravens don’t host a playoff game. Is this sending the wrong message? I realize that it is probably a smart business ($) decision. However, it seems like if the front office really believe in the ability of this team to win this big game, they would ship the tickets to prove their belief. All and all, I know it don’t matter, but it just seems like a little lack of confidence to me. Just curious, does anyone feel the same? Maybe I’m being a little too critical of a smart business decision.

Despite this business move, I hope the Ravens pull off this big win. In my opinion this is a playoff game. The possible prize for winning this game is huge.
GO RAVENS!!

Maybe they're just superstitious.

Sending them out now could be bad juju.

Really ?

Gee , thanks !!

Yea, not a great response, but I thought you had an interesting angle. I actually did not consider that as a reason for the delay. BTW, nice user name!!

I was only half-serious about the superstition angle , but who knows , maybe that's it.

Thanks on the user name compliment. BTW , it's pronounced DUFF-US ( duff as in puff ). Everyone gets that wrong and it really ticks me off.

Actually BenDufusberger probably hit on it fairly well. If they sent out the home playoff tickets yesterday and then they don't get a home playoff game, They're going to get a ton of crap in the media for doing that. So I'd bet that a lot of it has to do with just basic PR.

It makes sense to wait. And we all know teams are in fact superstitious lol. So I'd wait and call it a smart business move. Winning and dollars are the two goals of every franchise!

If they sent them out now and they lay an egg against the Bengals, it would be like the "Dewey Defeats Truman" headline all over again.

Maybe they wanted to wait so they could have the info on the opponent to make the tickets look pretty and "collectable".

If we were guaranteed a home play-off game then tickets would be sent out no questions asked. This is big enough business that spending a little money on mass shipping isn't a big deal. Rather they don't want to let down fans further by teasing them with a play-off tickets they possibly will never use. It isn't just an economics decision, but a smart business decision geared towards customer satisfaction. If they were to send out tickets, and we not have a game then what do you do? It's the right call to post-pone til we win, which we will if we play the way we are capable of playing. But you never really know which is why you play the game.

Lastly, I don't think we should be talking about handles at all in this topic. We get out of topic a lot but this is even worse as it's not even Ravens related.

I'm not overly fond of the decision but I just got back in town and am glad I did not have to worry about the tickets in my mailbox

The reason the Ravens aren't sending out the playoff tickets is because they don't know if they'll have a home game. If it's like last year, the Ravens haven't even printed the tickets and won't print them unless we win the division. Just like last year they were supposed to send the tickets out the week after Christmas and changed their mind because we lost to Pittsburgh and couldn't win the division. When I called they said they didn't want to go through the cost of printing the tickets since we probably wouldn't get a home game. Sure they credited the amount to this years PSL but they get to keep the money and draw interest without printing the tickets. If that's not a scam I don't know what is.

Don't care about the handles; I got an email today that said my playoff tickets were shipped. It's a great day in b-more. A home playoff game!! I'm going to do my part to make sure the 12th man make it hard for any team that come here for the playoffs to get past my boys.
GO RAVENS...I'm so pumped!!!

Did anyone receive their playoff tickets? When I look up the tracking number for my tickets on the FedEx web site, it claims there was a “delivery exception”. I’m trying to figure out what that means.

I got mine yesterday.

Usually if you get a "delivery exception" it means they couldn't find your house, no one was home to sign if a signature was required, or the driver was too lazy to get out of the truck to throw the envelope at the door.

I also got mine yesterday. You might want to call FedEx to find out what is going on.
