Lets Say Something Good About A Player For A Change

47 posts in this topic

In the spirit of the holiday season, and the potential out there for us to lock up the number 2 seed in the AFC against Cinci, lets all say something positive about at least one player on the team. You can talk about rookies, vets, whoever you want. For instance, lost in all of this bashing of our players, and a certain player in general, is the fact that Ray Rice, despite Cam's ineptness in certain games and refusing to even give him the ball, is 27 yards shy of reaching 1200 yards rushing in each of the last 3 seasons, in fact less than 50 yards away from surpassing his rushing total last year. He is also only 5 yards short of the most receiving yards he's had in his career. All of this while he right now sits 40 attempts short of his numbers LAST YEAR - and this after an offseason in which we were promised "more emphasis" would be placed on the run game. And all of this while facing some of the best run defenses in all of football. Congratulations Ray Rice, and here's hoping you're still running here in Baltimore for the next 10 seasons.

All I ask is that everyone who posts says only positive things about any player they talk about. No going off on tangents to attack people please, we have enough of those threads already.

Gotta give it up for Torrey Smith with 12 catches for >25yards so far this season. Top guys in the NFL are Brandon Marshall with 16, Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Smith with 15 each ... he's right up there with the big boys.

Danny Gorrer is the man. I honestly admit that I'd never heard of him until we signed him to the active roster, and even with his anonymity, he's been nothing but great in his limited playing time at the CB position. He's a guy I'm hoping becomes something good.

Joe Flacco is my boy. We have the same laid back attitude and people even tell me I look like him. Joe will always have his haters but i think he is a damn good quarterback that will only get better and I will defend him to the death.

Leach has been a beast. Great signing!
Ditto. I was so excited about him and Pollard. Both have lived up to their 'thumper' adjectives.

Torrey Smith is a budding star. Joe is starting to unearth the deep ball.

Cody has been eating up blockers.

Lots of good things!!!

My favorite Raven , Morgan Cox , has been perfect this season , but that's par for the course for him.
I became a Morgan Cox fan last year when he blew out his knee and still kept on taking snaps.
Freaking UNREAL.

Cory Redding-One of his best career years
Terrance Cody- Eating up a lot of blockers
Haloti Ngata-Despite his injury he is still a force to reckon with

Terrell Suggs-His best season ever
Ray Lewis-Still is above average (not elite though)
Jameel McClain-Took the starting job and held on tight
Jarrett Johnson- Good tackler, run support

Ed Reed-His best is waiting for playoffs
Bernard Pollard-Should of been starting much earlier
Lardarius Webb-Ravens MVP
Cary Williams-Speedy recovery, we need you

Bryant McKinnie-Don't know what our season would of been without you
Ben Grubbs-Expect a nice contract in the off season
Matt Birk-Holding up pretty well for his last year as a Raven
Marshall Yanda-Tough as nails and earned every penny of his deal
Michael Oher-Too fast for his own good! slow down and you will be great

Ray Rice-Pro bowl season
Vonta Leach-Awesome signing, want to see ball in his hands more on 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2
Joe Flacco-Isn't Injury prone

Anquan Boldin-Solid Hands
Torrey Smith- has 18 less catches than AJ Green and just as many touchdowns and if you put those catches in with average he would have more yardage
Ed Dickson-Made some great plays, focus on the ball though, you can be something special

Billy Cundiff-Can kick the hell out of the ball even when injured
Sam Koch-one of the best
Morgan Cox-You dont hear his name cuz hes doing it right

NO QUESTION !!!!!!!!

Leads the team in picks. ( Just having more than Ed is saying something )
and I think he has the most TD's for a non offense player.

I hope he is a Raven for life.

It's not even about the picks though (but it does solidfy his MVPness). Sure Suggs has a lot of sacks but Webb shows up every game he starts and it showed how important he was when we got picked apart by Rivers. He is one of our best tacklers and one of our most versatile players. Dude is a beast.

Webb has been the shock of the year. Not that his rookie campaign didn't go unnoticed, its just that some were doubting he'd return (myself included) to the level he's playing this eyar, especially with a lackluster sophomore year since the injury and all.

Fabulous year for him in 2011!!!

Joe Flacco: All he does is win. He's the QB that the Ravens need. He's not going to flat out win games that often (he did against Pittsburgh and Arizona this year,) but he's generally not going to lose games either. Against the Titans and Chargers, the defense couldn't stop the other team, against Jacksonville he was put against the wall with no called running game, and against Seattle, fumbled kickoffs doomed him.

Lee Evans: Hasn't had an impact stat wise this year, but the first game against the Steelers he was the most underrated player on the field. He was going deep and opening up all the underneath routes, allowing Flacco to just tear them apart.

Torrey Smith: The only thing bad you can really say about this guy are his drops and that's a problem that's going to get addressed in the offseason. He's going to come back next year and be an absolute beast. And it's not like he's having a bad year this year, he's having a GREAT rookie season.

Jimmy Smith: He's got the flashes of greatness this year, but he's made the rookie mistakes which have let him get beat. Like Torrey, once he gets a full offseason of training camp under his belt, he's going to be an absolute beast next year. Just watch, Webb/Smith are going to be the best 1-2 CB punch in the NFL next year. (Sorry Cary.)

Billy Cundiff: He's been having a hard season a lot due to the fact that he's attempted 6 times as many 50+ yard field goals as he did last year. Take out those attempts and he's got a similar field goal hit rate as he did last year. And he's been solid on touchbacks this year.

David Reed: ... .... I'm sorry, I got nothing.

What tickles me about Webb's play is that , 15 games into the season , his stats tell the opposing QB that any throws made to the receiver he's covering have a better chance of resulting in a Ravens TD than a TD for the QB's team.

That's just sick , and it has to play with a QB's mind. I'd love to see Webb get another pick-6 in the Cincy game , while continuing his streak of no TDs scored against him , just to solidify his standing as one of the Ravens that playoff teams will have to actively gameplan around.

Webb...

no TDs scored against him ,.

Is that a fact? No receiver has scored a TD covered by him?

That is pretty awesome.

Nope. And QBs only have a passer rating of around 53-54 throwing his way.

Against the Browns on Sat. he defended every pass ( 4 or 5 , I think ) against him , as well as getting the pick.

Edit : I just checked Filmstudy's breakdown of the Browns game. Webb had two passes completed out of six thrown his way , but allowed no additional YAC. He had 4 PDs , including the pick.

Joe Flacco- easily the most hated Ravens ever by Ravens fans. His ability to inspire hate from fans after every game is amazing.
not even in the ball park of close.

Boller is far more hated than Flacco.
FAR.

No. Boller is not hated as much as Flacco. Boller is just looked at as a joke while Flacco get critcized and hated after every win or loss. All you got to do is look at all the thread we have about Flacco in which people want him gone, traded, benched, etc.

I read those threads. I saw lots and lots of support, but we are straying from the point of this thread.

offensively..

Pitta has been a proven asset on this roster. this cat seemingly catches everything that hits his hands....ala..."stick'em" from back in the Raiders days.

defensively..

Webb is just flat out ballin' and beastin'

Pitta had his first TD for the Ravens this year, and the Harbaugh Bowl this Thanksgiving was awesome! But my favorite positive/memory
of this season was sweeping the Steelers in regular season bar none!

Go Ravens!!!
