No Discipline.

31 posts in this topic

Losing away games like we have, does our team
really have the discipline to win crucial away games like
the Bengals game next Sunday?

I really have my doubts and won't be suprised
if we lose by a large margin .

It seems to be a mental discipline issue not physical ,
which makes this even more worrisome .

Is our discipline problem fatal to our playoff chances?

We seem to get up for games that "matter". i mean, we expected to steamroll the Jags and the Seahawks, and they played tough and caught us off guard. San Diego was just a mess everywhere, proof that a competent offensive game planner with an elite quarterback can beat even the best defenses. Hopefully San Diego was a huge wake up call, because those are the kinds of offenses we will probably have to go through to get to the Superbowl. I wouldn't say it's a discipline problem, for most of the season a lot of the players have played brilliantly, and parts that weren't working early on seem to be coming together. Like RavensAllTheWay said, consistency is what we lack. I really feel like the only game where absolutely everything was woking perfectly was our opener against Pittsburgh - I haven't seen that Ravens team take the field since.

Yeh, all the training, talent and tradition in the world is no substitute for discipline, dedication and desire when it comes to team sports. "Perfect practice makes perfect, after you learn how to play the game." That's where coaching comes in. I'm convinced that that's why the Steelers have always had the edge on us in previous years. Their coaches --- Tomlin, Ariens and LeBeau were outcoaching Harbaugh, Cameron and Ryan. Silly penalties are a classic example of a lack of discipline and are easily fixed by coaches who expect discipline.

We will see what our Quarterback is made of next week. We need a win. Its either he delivers and plays weell or he doesn't. That simple.

Sorry, but it ain't that simple. Wake up and smell the coffee. Our QB could play lights out, but if the D doesn't play better than they have the past 2 weeks we are sunk.

We need Flacco to not turn the ball over.....period....... and anything is possible. Hand the ball off to the real player in this offense, play D, and don't turn the ball over. Simple as that.

Right, play D. Something we haven't done for a few weeks. They need to wake up and do it quickly.

It doesn't start and end with Flacco. He's not the problem. It's been our butter fingers TE and receivers and our underachieving D.

I'm not on the anti-Flacco bandwagon but the offense's problems haven't just been on the TEs, WRs and leaky defense we've seen at times. Joe inconsistency throwing the ball has been an issue too often this season.

Correction ... the fans expected to steamroll the Jags and the Seahawks. There's a difference there.

I'm gonna look up the turnover stats and throw them in your face. QBs turn the ball over in the NFL, it's something you're going to have to live with. Unless you want to whine and complain instead (and something tells me you do).

Posted this in another thread .. worth repeating here and asking the same question:

Yesterday the defense held Cleveland to 256 total yards, 5-13 on 3rd down, 0-1 on 4th down, one TD and no field goals while getting one INT and two sacks. And that's not good enough? What more do you expect a defense to do? Now are we asking them to score too?

What more do you want from them?

If we stop giving up special teams TDs we won't have to listen to people complain about Flacco only putting up 20 points and 2 TDs, as if it's unheard of.

It wasn't the defense really, it was that special teams TD. And Cleveland drove the ball on us, we intercepted it early and then they blew it (as only the Browns can do) by letting the clock run out at the end of the first half.

From the defense, I want to see the same look of disgust and disdain I saw on Tony Siragusa's face when the opposition scored even a field goal. He was not content to win games; he wanted shutouts. If I'm not mistaken, our best defensive team ever surrendered only 165 points in 16 games. Had it not been for a KO return by the Giants, our D would be the 1st and only team to pitch a shutout in the SB

From the offense, I want to see more consistent play on everyone's part. Right now, its like a one-man show. When teams shut down Ray Rice as San Diego did, we're in trouble. I want to see more TDs than FGs from the red zone offense. One reason Joe's TD totals are as low as they are is our conservative playcalling in the red zone. SF used a pass play to score against Pittsburgh when the Steelers expected the Niners to pound it in. I also want to see Joe do a better job of taking care of the ball. The forced fumbles have hurt us on more than one occasion. On a more positive note, the O-line seemed to do a pretty decent job on Saturday.

From Special Teams, I want to see no more KO and/or punt returns run back for TDs and I want to see our KO returners and punt returners do a better job of protecting the ball.

We beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh, so the discipline is there. Consistency is the issue at hand.

This^^^^ However, you could argue that consistency is a discipline problem

We all keep saying that losing the Cincy game is the end of our hopes of winning the SB. What if the Browns get lucky and win? They occasionally get lucky or they would be in line to draft Andrew Luck. Go Browns. We need all the luck we can get. Stranger things have happened in the NFL.

Well their current. QB is a upgrade over McCoy so I think the odds of an upset have gone up.

And if Batch starts, I like the chances. It's their last chance to get a win, they hate Pittsburgh, Wallace, Cribbs, Hillis, and that Defense will want revenge from the last game.

Sorry when I hear discipline I think being unruly or acting out like some other teams players do - well why not come out and say it, like the Jets and their players act. You mean like executing gameplans and being mentally prepared at the beginning of every game? Because then yes, I agree with you 100 percent, and sorry to say, that falls right on the coaches, and Harbaugh, as the HC, in particular.

Hey, the Chiefs beat the Packers last week. Like KG said after the Celtics won in 07-08, "Anything's possible."

Harbs is one of the most disciplined coaches out there when it comes to mental things, the problem is inconsistency in the Offense mainly Cam

Since its basketball season the Ravens offense is like a streak shooter. If that first shot goes through then it means they could get on roll in this case with Ravens touchdown on first drive. This offense isn't pure it's streaky and we will find out Sunday against bengals whether we will be on or not.The Ravens have to get off to a hot start or they can stall real quick. So it really isn't discipline in my eyes just a case of a streaky offense.

This is more of a possibility than most people think. It's a huge rivalry, they are playing in Cleveland and the squealers aren't exactly playing their best football right now. Also, I think we gave the brownies O the gift of confidence by allowing them to walk down the field on us last week. Go brownies!

That said, I don't see why we can't beat the bengals. Even with our injuries, we are the much better squad. We just need to wake up and play to our potential. I know, I know, but we can hope!
