Thanks. I remember his first game as a rookie, the 50 yard TD run vs the Bengals, that was awesome.

I don't know if there are passing plays offensively that give the quarterback a run or pass option. I don't like a quarterback to run too often because if he gets injured in doing it the risk outweighs the reward. After all, what if Flacco runs and gets hurt and we are without him for a substantial amount of time? I am telling you it is just not worth it. As an extreme, look at Michael Vick and the injuries he has sustained over the last few years since he runs more often than most quarterbacks.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Joe become a running back , or the next Vick. The idea is for him to take opportunities to pick up yardage when a pass play breaks down. He doesn't have to try to run over people , he can slide to the ground before getting hit.

If he stays in the pocket he's going to get tackled too. Getting sacked is not risk-free , but it's definitely reward-free. And fumbles ? Have we not seen plenty of those this year from Joe while he's in the pocket ? Could he have possibly fumbled any more if he'd run downfield on those plays , rather than take the sack/fumble ?

definatly will catch teams off guard. it will allow our offense to stay on the field longer and will also help our recievers getting open

Ravens run a pretty strict Air Coryell where the QB stays in the pocket most of the time. You don't see many boots or rollouts in the offense (though IIRC I think I saw one and Ed Dickson dropped a pass) so Joe running is usually if the pocket breaks down or no one is open.

flacco rookie year looks like everything was a playaction or roll out. our offense was good flaccos rookie yr...he just didn't have enough experince to make better throws in the steelers game. a more experince QB would have beat the steelers during the 3 headed monster yr. WHY CAN'T WE DO THAT OFFENSE AGAIN?!?!

big ben used to run all the time.
tebow and cam newton do it a lot and they are big guys like flacco.

I think when Flacco gets a new contract and OC you will see him run. He is a QB with pretty good speed and is or can be pretty good throwing on the run to his right. we have good YAC receivers who would benefit from running in space and having that one less defender.

"Vick is small"? I could say Flacco is more lanky. Big Ben? Look at how often he gets nicked up or injured. Tebow, is the 32nd ranked passer out of 32 teams in the NFL, and what is the nature or role of a quarterback, he is a passer? Besides, the more you insist Flacco run, the less chance he has of completing passes and improving his consistency. I say, run only out of necessity.

Flacco is more of a target given his stature.

Vick is a really small guy. I've seen him in person, the Eagles have training camp near me and they're everywhere for a while. Saw him buying a box of Dutch Masters once.

Remember his goaline draw though? I still shudder. Gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

Lol, that was pretty ridiculous.

I remember his long run in his first season (I believe) and it was great. I wondered why he doesn't use his legs to get himself out of trouble more? He stands like a statute sometimes when he's capable of moving around. I don't mean scrambling per se just staying out of trouble.
