Will Lee Evans Step Up To The Plate?

72 posts in this topic

One thing that has stood out this season is that Smith is a far better receiver than Evans. He is much faster and has a nose for the ball. Evans looks like he is just going through the motions. I think that it would have been wiser to use him on short sideline passes like in preseason. He can fake the deep route and cut back much like the play that Mason perfected here for years. Just throwing bombs to him is not utilizing his strengths. Cameron looks lost out there. The play calling is so vanilla that the other teams jump our routes at will. We couldn't do anything against the Chargers and fell asleep in the second half yesterday. A bigger concern is that our pass rush is almost nonexistent. The injury bug has bitten but we can't use it to cover up for Cameron's lack of killer instinct to put the Browns away.

I along with multiple ppl on this board said Smith had no one throwing him the ball tho... freakin Jimmy Clausen was throwing him the ball.. He was still a beast when a decent ball came his way.. Steve Smith did have a past (fought a team mate) ... It seem like he just want to win now..

I agree that i think your offense will run thru the TE's

Smith also has Cam throwing to him. We traded for Boldin, one of the best recievers in the league with YAC, and what has he dont here. I dont want to blow draft picks for recivevers who arent going to be utilized properly. I would rather get a new QB/OC

It wasn't a "lack of killer instinct" on the OC's part that led to three drives stalling because of bad drops. Cam's play-calling is spotty no doubt, but let's not pretend it was just the offense taking its foot off the pedal in the Browns game that made the game closer than it needed to be.

Not to mention the bad interception.

Exactly. The drops were drive killers and things probably would have been much different had those passes been caught. Can't throw cam under the bus for "taking his foot off of the pedal".

Geez!!! They weren't even tough catches!

Lee Evans missed his window. In two weeks we'll certainly see Boldin back, and with the way Pitta lit it up today, 3 WR sets are less likely, in my opinion. I don't remember how long we have him signed for but it's just bizarre how much chemistry he and Joe had pre-season compared with the lack of communication and chemistry they have shown the past few weeks. I hope his injury just set him back a little and perhaps next year he can have a bigger role. This isn't to say he won't play in the playoffs at all, but I don't expect to see him much.

He dropped a prety clutch pass today. I believe it was 3rd down. I don't agree with the playcall or the deep throw, but when it hits you in the hands you'd better catch it.

Lee seems to playing with no confidence and is hardly an aggressive receiver .

He has not stepped up to the plate, sadly.

That drop made me so mad, everyone blames Joe but his receivers need to make some plays.

Case and point, Mike Flynn starts today for Green Bay, and throws for 490 yrds and 6 TDs. What the hell is that? GOod receivers that get separtion and make plays.

as pissed as i was with that drop by Lee...just the mere fact that Cam didn't go back to him to allow him to get more involved to start making plays and gaining confidence was sickening! Cam is literally stunting the explosiveness of our WRs and TEs with his b.s. play calling.

I strongly agree with this. Yes, giving the ball to Rice is something we need to do, as has been said over and over, but when we go into this conservative playcalling it leaves us vulnerable to losing our lead, and we need to continue to establish chemistry with all of the receivers. But, Ray Rice and Dennis Pitta really delivered today, so I have little to complain about.

In a sense, it was though. They were 3rd down must have plays. Run, run, pass, drop, punt. Yes, the drives would not have been stalled if those drops are catches, however, when you are only passing on 3rd down, everyone knows you are passing, and it doesn't put your players in the best position to execute successfully.

That doesn't excuse not executing at all. There are passing attacks that don't miss a bit even when the opposition knows it's coming. Whether it be play-calling or your opponent being well-prepared, you're not always going to be in the best position to make a play, but you still have to come through. Dickson's drop last week were inexcusable.
