Will Lee Evans Step Up To The Plate?

72 posts in this topic

Honestly, I'm more interested in seeing if Torrey Smith steps up. He's been starting this season, but he's never been the #1 WR that matches up consistently with the other team's best CB. He was catching up to Boldin stat wise. But that was with Boldin usually grabbing the best CB allowing Torrey to go deep.

Tandon Doss is active today. So we will see how our Wr work without boldin. Lee Evans should step up including Dennis Pitta who i think is Flaccos favorite TE. Game time in a half an hour!

Um. ...A lot depends on Cam. I think he has no choice but to use him. Remember how he used Stallworth once he was healthy?

ughhhhh that actually hurt my stomach thinking about it

Evans and Doss had no catches today. To use baseball metaphors, not only didn't Evans step up to the plate, he was barely in the batters box today. Doss didn't even make it to the on deck circle. Pitta was only used to block, too. What the heck is wrong with our offense? Cameron should have been thrown out of the game faster than Earl Weaver.

Playing like that won't cut it against the Bengals next week. The Bengals never sell out so it won't be like a typical road game, it will be more like a scrimmage due to the lack of fans.

It will be an amazing feat if we can get deep into the post season with cameron. His play calling gives me ulcers.

Uh no.... Bengals are fighting for a playoff spot too. This is going to be a very hostile crowd. The bengals WILL sell out

They were playing for a playoff spot today, didn't sell out. Why should next week be any different, you would think they would, but they just havn't this year. They are rebelling against Mike Brown apparently and don't like there team enough to get over him.

If the only time Torrey touched the ball was on an endaround , and every endaround involved Torrey , we'd all be hating them this year too. That's the way it was , pretty much , with Stallworth , so it left a bit of a bad taste.
sure, except it was a different situation. We had a reliable receiving corps between Q, Mase, and Heap. Not a lot of depth, but they could get it done. Stallworth just being on the field was a threat to take it deep, so why not mess with that when the safeties back up by running an end around? I would have liked it if stallworth was more active in last years gameplans, but did we reaaallly need him?

Let's be serious, No one thought Steve Smith would bounce back the way he did. Looking back trading for him probably would have been nice, but at the time he looked like a pricy malcontent.

I think Lee will step up when called on. He is more than just a speed guy too. Lee is a great route runner with excellent hands and with him and Torrey thats a lot of speed on the field as well. To be honest though, I think our offense will probably run through the TEs.
I along with multiple ppl on this board said Smith had no one throwing him the ball tho... freakin Jimmy Clausen was throwing him the ball.. He was still a beast when a decent ball came his way.. Steve Smith did have a past (fought a team mate) ... It seem like he just want to win now..

I agree that i think your offense will run thru the TE's

Lee Evans = 2010 Donte Stallworth -minus the end arounds........

Sad sad truth..... Injuries took both away good portion of season. But after seeing Evans in preseason I had actual hopes and expectations for him.... Now I'm just hoping he can turn it around be a playoff X-Factor that teams overlook.

About all we can hope for really.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it seems like they force the ball to him sometimes just in hopes that he'll get involved?

I know he really hasn't been stepping up too well, but I'm not giving up on him. I truly believe he'll step up big for us at some point, just have to get the right match up. No one will expect it to happen.

Not only that, I don't feel like he gives maximal effort on tough catches. At least that's what I'm seeing.

That's what concerns me the most about Evans . Has anyone really seen him fight for the ball on a bad throw ??

Yeah, he just seems to be going through the motions and not fighting for the ball. You'd think he would try to make the most of the opportunities he gets. Looks like he's just out there for self preservation and to collect a paycheck. On the pick yesterday, he made no attempt at the ball, no fight, no fire, no nuthin'.

Extremely frustrating. We've payed him through a long rehab and are getting nothing in return. Not sure what to say.

That's my problem with him. I felt like he shoulda went up for TD against chargers( that weddle batted down ). He could have fought for ball yesterday and caused an incompletion rather than an int.

This. I like Evans. I've seen him play and I KNOW that he gives it his all. It makes me think he is either afraid of re-injuring himself or he isn't 100% right now. I would have liked to see Pitta more involved in the Browns' game. I think he would have made those catches that Dickson dropped.

L. Evans showed the nation yesterday that he wasnt into that game. He ran poor routes and had no effort on jump balls! On one play he ran a deep in route(well thats what it was suppose to be) but curled in instead of doing 90 degree in, allowing the corner to break on the ball, for an almost int. On Flacco int, Evans knew the ball was going to be thrown to him, before the play was even snapped yet he had no fight in him to jump for the ball!?

For this week, you Lee Evans get the "C'MON MAN" award!

Now if only Flacco can play this way EVERY WEEK!

Based on Lee's injury and performance this season does anyone out there think he's back next year?

Ozzie took a gamble, knew he was hurt , but in hindsight should have gone after someone else.

Yeah...really. Talk about odd timing to question if he fights or not. He was wrestling the CB in the EZ for what seemed like 5 minutes after another horrendous Flacco underthrow!

On Joes horrid underthrow in the EZ. Also on the tipped pass in the middle!

Lee is another casualty of the most predictable offense in the nfl. If i'm calling plays from a sports bar with half the crowd then you know their is a problem

Ya I'm not sure where you guys are getting this from? I haven't been able to watch any of the past 4 games since he's come back because I've been extremely busy with work around Christmas time, but I remember watching him closely in the pre-season and he sure seemed to go all out during those games. I also saw him play physical and make some tough catches on short passes for first downs in the preseason as well. Maybe it would help if Flacco (or Cam) could throw him a screen pass or 2 early on to get him into the game.

The steelers do that a lot with Wallace because he's fast and the corner usually backs off him on the Line of Scrimmage, and I think that could work well Evans as well because it seems like the only times that we target him are on deep routes.

Oh, I saw those plays, but didn't see any fight from Lee. Looked to me like he was just observing.
