Boldin Out Two Weeks With Knee Surgery

103 posts in this topic

Knee injuries slow players down. A slow wr can't get separation. We have a real problem if the others can't take up the slack.

I would be very surprised if this is in fact a two week thing.

I am not buying it...
It's a very slight tear in the miniscus. Something he should bounce back from.

Well this is for sure interesting. I just had this operation done on october 3rd and ill tell you...im still not 50%. i play basketball a lot and forget about attempting a crossover let alone pushing off with the said knee. So dont be suprised if we dont see him again this year again, although everyone recovers differently.

This if not any other reason should force cam to be more run heavy. I said in the "10 carries" thread; if rice doeant see the ball at least 20times a game ill be furious, well now...if he doesnt, im going to have to boycott and occupy M&T.

Dont be suprised if we do look at moss or maybe even TO. I know some of you will freak out about that but regaurdless of the screw job we got from TO, i think people would be niave to say he cant help a wr corps that relys on lee evans as our veteran leader on the field. If either of the above can help our team im all for it and dont forget regaurdless of how much skills they have left they will demand attention considering what they have done.

That's what we ultimately wanted on the flanks right now. Torrey and Lee with Boldin in the slot. So instead of Boldin we'll probably just see Pitta/Dickson in the slot. Both guys with good hands. I actually won't mind seeing this combination. But Evans does need to become effective again.

For everboydy clamoring for Doss. I wouldn't get your hopes up. It isn't Automatic Doss will see playing time. There is a chance.
Meh Pitta is def better. I've seen Dickson drop too many passes his way. That's not even including Flacco's bad throws to Ed. Time for the TEs to def step up.

I feel that Boldin was our Browns Buster. He would always find ways to make a play against the Browns.

I think for that game we'll just do what we did last time. Have Ray Rice run all day. They couldn't stop him then, and I don't see them stopping him now. Plus, if the weather's good Flacco and the receivers should have a better time connecting on passes, and Flacco has played very well against the Browns in his career.

This might be a little off topic but I need to get this off my chest...Let me preference my comment first by saying that I know we don't like to publicly speak about injuries... So for Harbs to come out Thursday and state "Boldin’s knee “flapped up” after the team’s walk-through on Tuesday" is pretty significant, but for Cam to say this on Wednesday in the presser when responding to reporters questions:
Anquan Boldin, he hasn't gotten as many catches, statistically, the last couple of weeks. How do you keep a guy like him involved if Joe [Flacco] is looking at other options in the passing game? (Ed Lee) "He is always involved. He is always in our top three progressions. Obviously, he has made some big plays. You are always wanting to get a guy like that the ball more. I think you have to look at the big picture. It would be nice – he has an opportunity to get over 1,000 yards – and there aren't many guys doing that in the league, to compare him throughout the league. The bottom line is he is doing a lot of things to help us win. We'll continually try to get that done."
Can you elaborate on what are those other things he is doing besides just running routes? (Ed Lee) "Helping guys, young receivers, technique. I think I was telling somebody yesterday [that] there are a lot of things involved in Torrey [Smith's] growth. Obviously, [wide receivers coach] Jim [Hostler] does a tremendous job with all those guys. But having Anquan [Boldin] in the room with all the young receivers, he is the only [player], other than David Reed, who was out basically all of last year … Every guy in that room is new. So, his leadership is huge. He blocks as well as anybody. A lot of our big runs are all blocks that he gets. [He also provides] just critical catches in critical situations. But, you're right. Here down the stretch, Anquan Boldin will be tremendously involved."

Is is just me or does this seem a little strange to anyone else that Cam would be making these kind of remarks the day AFTER Boldin was injured in a walk through? I mean you can't tell me that you wouldn't notice a player with a tear to the meniscus no matter how slight the tear might be. Isn't that the job of the offensive coordinator to be fully aware of the status of his players??? He had to have known, and to come out in the media the day after and say "Here down the stretch, Anquan Boldin WILL be tremendously involved" , and Harbs coming out the following day and contradicts it with the news of surgery for Boldin? Is Cam really that clueless??? I know the answer to that question for myself, but I just have to say that this boggles my mind!!! No wonder fans are confused. Can we say "communication" here???

This downplaying injury stuff with Harbs for previous team injuries this season like Evans' ankle debacle, J. Smith's hamstring and ankle, Lewis' toe, Webb's toe, Grubbs toe, Birk's back, neck and shoulder issues, Cundiff's calf,...Redding's ankle and Ngata's back, the last two we didn't even know anything about until right before the last game, is just insane. I understand not wanting to give the opposing team any advantages in game planning strategy with the pyschological "injury report" dancing that teams do, but ... if they are any good, opposing teams will plan accordingly to the injury report regardless. Other teams scour the internet for information and probably our fans are the only ones that don't actually know the truth about the injuries! I think it gives fans false expectations that we have a team "with just a few bumps and bruises" on the field when in actuality things might be more serious with long range implications, as we have seen play out here this season. I understand it is a balancing act...but one we surely haven't done too well. Soooo, if we aren't going to talk about injuries then just don't, and if you are just shoot straight!!!

Oh god, I just though of something. Now Cam has no reason not to put Lee and Torrey on the field at the same time, and by extension no reason not to dial up 30+ yard passing plays all day. And the Mad Cam experiment will continue. I can just picture what's going through his mind. Lets try not only to break the record for most deep passing attempts in a season, let's completely obliterate it so that when people look back on NFL history they will say I, Cam, called the most daring gameplan, ever.

Did the surgeon repair your meniscus or trim it? Depending on age, the severity of the tear, location of the tear, how you use your knees in every day life, etc. they either repair a meniscus tear or they trim away the damaged area. I'm guessing they are being upfront about a "minor" tear and they will just trim it away and Q will have quick recovery, if there are no complications. 3 weeks isn't out of the question. Sure, he still may have some pain, but no mechanical issues that would affect his knee.

We may activate Doss, but I don't see him becoming a factor. He would be there for insurance.
As many have said look for a lot of Pitta and Dickson together AND for Evans to make his full time debut. Hopefully Lee is up to the task. YOU GO LEE!!!

TO? Not in a million years are we gonna sign TO. He's locker room poison.

Moss? I'd give this maybe a 5% chance. I've got to admit that thought is kind of interesting.

Mason would not surprise me since he knows the playbook. But this only happens if the FO has absolutely no confidence in Williams and Doss.

NEXT MAN UP!!!!!!

The meniscus is cartilage and not connective tissue like ligaments. Meniscus tears are pretty common in professional sports.

If it's a minor tear it's probably a 30 to 40 minute arthroscopic surgery and he's home a few hours later. Crutches for a few days and then physical therapy. If it is minor as described, he could be back in 3 weeks.

Should not be a big deal Flacco doesn't hit his receivers anyway. The check down king doesn't throw to receivers.

Man, will you ever make up your mind? He plays lights out last year, and you rag on him. Then he beats the Steelers twice, and you're on board. Then he his first poor game in a month and you're back to where you were.

Doss not even being active for games is another reason cam and john need to get fired. They blow a 4th rounder and dont even use him. I still think he is a better reciver then Torey. If doss had not only been active but the targets torrey has had, he would at the very least have more catches.

Browns Buster is an amusing term, however, everyone should have that title. There are the Browns after all.

Cant, he has not progressed, I think at times the game is to big for him. He does possess the tools to be great, but you can't buy heart. Flacco leads the league in fumbles and has 11 of those, to go with 11 picks versus only 17 tds he is hurting the team.

The guy is average at this point, and may stay that way his whole career. RR leading this team in receptions every year(or second on the team) is ridiculous. That's what we have receivers for.

This has to have something to do with the lack of seperation and the rough passing game lately. Get well soon Boldin. We'll need you in the playoffs.

Just read this on Twitter, thought this would be something everyone would want to know. Anquan Boldin, a week after surgery is out on the field in practice moving around and playing catch. That is such good news, now if only he would be able to play on Sunday.

Boldin is listed as doubtful. Not out, but doubtful. We all know he wont play, but the fact he's out there already practicing just again shows the man heals like no other (well, maybe TO).

I think we're gonna keep him out this week to get him more time to heal and rest. I'd love to have him for the Bengals but we'll need him more in the playoffs. I wonder if Evans is gonna show up this week.....

Boldin has been upgraded from Out to Doubtful.

Obviously he's still not going to play this week (even though the team says there's a chance,) but that's a really good sign that should something bad happen (knock on wood,) he'd be available for Wild Card weekend.

I've heard quite a few people write about the Ravens being an up and down team, but the Bengals haven't been very convincing either. I think that we will win the game due to a few defensive plays and key turnovers. We have struggled with turnovers on the road, but we will win the turnover battle and come out on top.

No he hasn't by any stretch of the means. Wishful thinking at best, he seemed to be a matchup problem for the Bengals awhile back.
