If the team re-signed Mason, there's no way he wouldn't be active.

Oh yeah no doubt, i guess i worded that wrong. I just meant if we activate Doss and Williams finally, and Mason helps them out as well.

Okay, let's sign Mason for a few games. Give him a chance to make up for the dropped TD in the Steelers playoff game last year. I'm sure he has a few more catches in him before he retires.
[/quote]

Um....that wasn't Mason.

That was Boldin

Mason's TD drop against Pittsburgh was during the regular season, then there was the no-TD catch by Mason against the Steelers during Flaccos first visit to Pittsburgh that was ruled no catch but the MNF replays looked like a catch and it should have been challenged by the staff.

He's more than likely talking about the game in 2009 where Flacco delivered a perfect ball to Mason in the EZ that was dropped. We lost that game by something like 3 or 4, where 7 there would have certainly helped.

Yeah when Mason dropped that pass and was smiling, laughing it off. There was a whole thread bashing him for it and everything.

What a horrible game that was. Two touchdowns taken off the board by penalties, the Mason drop, Cousins imploding and a key interception getting called back because of Frank Walker.

i don't have a problem with the Ravens resigning Mason. i believe that he has been significantly humbled by his journeyman experiences with the Jets and Texans and that he would be grateful to be back in a Ravens jersey. besides, he knows the system well and had great chemistry with Joe Flacco. and Joe had the utmost confidence in Mase and we all know that he was good for a quick sideline comeback route when we needed first downs. lol! you can never have enough WR insurance! just spell it out for him that we are looking to Torrey and Lee Evans first and then you IF you are open. and work in our 2 TEs. our passing game should be fine.

Both Dan Kolko and Aaron Wilson just tweeted that they'd be very surprised if bringing him back actually happened. and Aaron Wilson basically said it won't happen.

Good point I had considered writing that in my first post in this thread as well. I'll add make no mistake every NFL player wants to reach the pinnacle in this game before they retire. I see Mason as viewing this as his last opportunity to win a Super Bowl if asked to come aboard.

I think Pitta and Dickson can also step up and Evans and Smith can play the outsides. I say stick with the roster.

I'd say yes. As the #3 WR
Heres why:
Veteran presence.
He knows our system better then any other WR, and him and Joe had good chemistry.
What happens if (knock on wood) Evans or Smith gets hurt. Our next recievers woud be LaQuan,Doss, and Reed. They havent had much opportunitys but theyre young and there are reasons why. I'd want Mason to be there because we would be stuck with a bunch of rookies and Evans who probably isnt 100% yet.
And let him know when Boldin comes back that his role will be reduced. Plus let him retire with us! And maybe even win superbowl with us. I understand why people wouldnt want him but I feel the Pros out weigh the Cons.
And this is all came too a suprise to me. I had no idea his knee was that bad that he requires surgery. Mason would be wonderful to have if Q wasnt to be fully healthy round 1 in playoffs.

Mason is old and washed up. Stick with two TE sets and Evens was a #1 for Buffalo so he can fill in quite well for Boldin.
Mason was cut by 3 teams this year, there is a reason for that....

Yea. People seem to picture Mason as the same guy from last year. But if you watched him play the last game in Houston before he got cut. He looked slow and old. Face the fact. Mason has hit the career wall. It happens to everyone.

Even if you sign Mason. You might as well cut Doss or LaQuan or Reed. Your pretty much telling those guys they aren't good enough to contribute for two games.
Plus on top of that, how would that affect chemistry going into the post season.

Many reasons why Mason won't be signed.

I think it would be great.
Sign him for a song, dance and snickers bar.
Let him warm the bench mostly. Catch a pass or two in the big game.
Call it a career.

Either way the guy is a team player, he played hurt so many times and took some huge hits. The guy is a warrior no doubt. I would be proud to have him back for the playoffs.

Should the Ravens re-sign D-Mase as insurance for playoff run? Him and Joe had great chemistry, and Boldin has disapeared the past few games, seemingly only Torrey and Tight ends can get open/balls...

So you really think Q is back to 100% by the playoffs?

I wasn't really talking about the Browns' game. Bengals game could be worrisome.

We're talking 2 2nd yr TEs, 2 rookie WRs, and Evans who just doesn't seem like he's back to 100% yet. Not sure that will get the job done vs the Bengals let alone in the playoffs.

Let me clear as well, not talking about Mason waltzing in and taking over the #1 or #2 spot either. I just think having that veteran presence, that knows our offense, that has chemistry with Joe and can move the chains would not hurt us.

No.... He is like 37 years old, do you not understand the Nfl is a young mans league. Who the hell in the NFL is a starting WRer at 37.He is a good dude but NO....to old, love him but to old.

That veteran presence is the same outspoken veteran presence that he got cut from the Jets for. Torrey Smith, Lee Evans and Doss have never been on a team with Mason. You'd be introducing a whole new dynamic to the WR core. Why do this 2 wks before the post season. I can guarantee you the team won't be.

And once again. That chemistry he had with Flacco won't be the same this year. I've watched Mason take quite a few snaps this year and IMO he has hit a career wall.

Also. Boldin had 1 catch against the Bengals last time. And it was a blown coverage. Sure he demands attention. But doubling up on our TE can replicate that attention. I'm not saying Boldin is replaceable. But the guys can hold down fort.

Why do you people on here keep talking about putting a veteran WRer around Flacco who is in his 4 year???? Get it though your heads, he's not a rookie or a baby anymore. He has to step up and become a LEADER, you cant make him into something he's not no matter WHO YOU GO GET.

It's definitely easier to be an effective ILB at that age than it is at WR. Look at London Fletcher. Like Ray, he's lost athleticism over the years, but is still capable of making plays on anticipation and experience alone.

As good a route runner as Mason is, we saw him get shut down numerous times last season, most notably in the play-offs. And if he was consistently beating CBs this season, two teams wouldn't have let him go.

I admit that other than when he played vs us with the Jets I have not seen Mason play this season. I think the Jets made him a scapegoat for other issues but you know, I guess I got used to his outspoken ways when he was here.

I don't know. It just makes me very nervous to go on the road to the Bengals with no real veteran presence in our receiving corps, not to mention the playoffs. I just don't see how Q comes back 100% by then.
