Should the Ravens re-sign D-Mase as insurance for playoff run? Him and Joe had great chemistry, and Boldin has disapeared the past few games, seemingly only Torrey and Tight ends can get open/balls...

Mason certainly knows the system and is a reliable possession receiver for us. We'd have to cut a younger player (L. Williams maybe?) who needs to get some playoff experience to help us long term. It's a tough call.

Absolutely not. What exactly would Derrick do in the play-offs that he hasn't done in previous seasons? Mase was great here for a number of years but he caught one ball in two play-off games last season despite getting a decent amount of targets. What makes us believe he'd be productive this time around if he was re-signed? Two teams that aren't exactly loaded at the WR position were okay with unloading him. That's pretty telling.

There'd just be no sense in bringing him back.

It's easier said than done, but Cam simply needs to find better ways of incorporating the weapons he has and Flacco has to be better throwing the football.

I love Mase and he had been great for us for the last 6 years, but it's the past; we are moving on with young guys for the better of the franchise.

About Boldin, thanks to Cam even Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald on the team, he'll make them less effective as they are now.

Our young guys need a good OC who can utilizes their best strength in specific scheme for them to excel.

PS: thanks but no thanks for Mason...

Yes. To a one-day contract so that he can retire as a Raven. But not to play.

I'm with this....retire as Ravens but permanently inactive....

What's up with Q's knee? Heard he missed practice yesterday. Call me crazy, but signing Mase isn't a horrible idea IMHO.

Just reported that he has a small tear in his meniscus, but will be ready by the playoffs.

After this report, i think it would be a good idea to bring back Mase. I know he was cut by both the Jets and Texans, and his time here many think should be "over". But Lee hasnt done much since he's come back from injury. So Torrey is our only real threat in our WR's core. Mase could at least bring some sort of ability to try to help this team with our last two games.

And it my be just me, but a tear in the meniscus, and they expect him back in 2-3 weeks? I don't know, that just seems like a stretch to me.

Look, whatever you want to say about Mason, the dude is a warrior and is certainly battle tested. Not saying I want him to come here and take over from Smith or Evans or any of our TEs. With Boldin's injury though, Mason knows the system and he and Flacco have that chemistry. Even if it proves out he isn't needed on the field at all, he certainly wouldn't hurt on the sidelines doing some coaching up of our young receiving corps.

Smith and Evans can handle the work load just fine without Mason.
And should one of them sustains an injury? Even one that only keeps them out one game? Not only that, I swear Evans still isn't 100%. We need some depth with experience at WR as we head into the playoffs. I agree that the 2-3 week timeline for Boldin to be back and be effective (keyword: effective) is pretty out there with that type of injury.

Whether or not Anquan Boldin can't play, I'd say yes. Our WR corps is not as good as last year's. Last year we had Mason. Boldin, Houshmansadeh and Stallworth - four bona fide All Pros. This year we have Boldin and Smith. Evans, Doss and Laquan Williams have been non-existent. Joe has less "Go To" weapons than he had last year, not more, AND with the exception of Torrey Smith, there seems to be a huge drop-off in chemistry between him and his WRs and TEs. It is no wonder his completion percentage is down. If we do not sign a veteran WR to bolster the passing attack, I would take a page from the book of Raymond Berry, who wouldn't leave the practice field until he'd practiced 70 Out patterns and 50 Post patterns with Johnny U. There is just something not right about our under-utilization of Anquan Boldin. He has great hands and is very strong. Joe Flacco has a great arm and is very strong. Yet, the Ravens OC does not seem to call many timing patterns --- the outs and fades. He also doesn't call many screen passes. Perhaps this is due to our makeshift O-line. At least four former Ravens offensive linemen start for other teams, right? I can think of Jared Gaither, Ray Chester, Tony Pashos and Jason Brown.

None of them looked All-Pros last season. In fact, Housh and Stallworth have never been All-Pros.

Donte Stallworth an all pro? That made me chuckle.

I voted yes because - he knows the offense, Joe is comfortable throwing to him and his skill set compliments the other two speed guys perfectly. I feel he can come in and contribute.

Who offers more value to this team... Derrick Mason or David Reed?

This is a no-brainer. People were mentioning this possibility BEFORE Boldin was announced to have surgery and be out for 2 weeks. Now that the news broke about that, I don't see how the Ravens don't give Mason a call.

Mason was released from the Jets as a scapegoat for a team that was horrible all around, not because he couldn't still play.

As for the Texans... they lost their starting QB. They lost Andre. They're a run-first team, and Mason simply isn't the best receivers for blocking. He'll certainly try, but he's just a small guy, and he's older. Jacoby Jones does almost nothing in the passing game, but he is younger and bigger so he can get out there faster and block guys on the 2nd level for Foster and Tate.

Besides, after all that Mason went through with this team and the horrible offenses... it kind of just seems fitting that he get a chance to help finish that quest for a Ravens Super Bowl.

Hey! We agree on something there lol

I was actually getting ready to post that if I had the inclination to check out the thread where Mason was cut, I'd bet about 80% of these people saying "no" now were screaming when we let him go.

I think this is the first time we ever agreed on anything! haha

As ravensdfan said, the guy is a warrior. He knows the system. Even if he doesnt see the field, and we end up activating both L.Williams and Doss, he could help those 2 out immensely.

Okay, let's sign Mason for a few games. Give him a chance to make up for the dropped TD in the Steelers playoff game last year. I'm sure he has a few more catches in him before he retires.
