Breaking News: Ravens Sign K Shayne Graham, Place Lb Chavis Williams On Ir

32 posts in this topic

The Ravens officially signed 11-year veteran kicker Shayne Graham today.

Kicker Billy Cundiff has not practiced since Dec. 7th due to a left calf injury.

Graham reportedly had a tryout with the Ravens two weeks ago. He was also in training camp with the team in 2010 and competed with Cundiff for the starting job. He is the 5-most accurate kicker in NFL history.

To make room for Graham on the roster, the Ravens placed LB Chavis Williams on Injured Reserve.

Cundiff shouldn't be on the field if he isn't 100%. This was a good signing.

Looks like we'll be going with two kickers on the roster for the foreseeable future. We very rarely do this. It'll be interesting to see what happens down the stretch with our kicking situation.

Graham did pretty well with the Patriots at the end of last year. But unless he goes 10/10 or something in these last 2 games, Billy should still be the guy.

He is one of many UDFA LBs that Oz has picked up. Went to the PS in TC. He got moved to the active roster not to long ago.

Long Overdue. This should have been done a couple weeks ago. If things stay the same in terms of the playoff seeding, if they sit Cundiff for the next two weeks, plus the Bye before the Divisional Round would allow Cundiff 3 weeks of rest.

Graham also did well for us during last year's TC. But Billy was stealing the show with his leg last year. But that leg isn't the same this year.

In all honesty. If Graham preforms well enough next week or two. The Ravens might think about placing Billy on IR.

Yep. If Billy isn't 100%, he cannot and should not play in the playoffs.

People are celebrating like Graham is better than Cundiff. He is not. Sure Cundiff has missed wide on a number of long FG's this season but before the injury he was still money at shorter distance. Graham has a weak leg so anything beyond 40 yards will still be a bit of a question mark. Only with him it will be kicks coming up short instead of wide. Plus we'll probably see much fewer touchbacks.

Good. Cundiff needs to heal that leg. Simple as that. Should of happened a week or two ago.
Agreed... this move is a bit late, but better late than never... get well soon, Billy.

Shane Grahm, or Golden Grahm as they called him in Cincinnati is good from anything inside 40, but anyone big, clutch kick or kick over 40 yrds he's no better than Cundiff. Whatever, I just hope it doesn't come down to our kicker in the playoffs, what a horrible way to end your season.

Does anyone else feel like everyone kick against us this year has been made, I mean our kicker misses everything and then our oppositin nails 50 yarders on us.

Good move but it should have been made earlier! A healthy Shane Graham has to be better than an unhealthy Billy Cundiff. Someone should have made a call to Mike Vanderjagt in Marco Island, FL to see if he would come out of retirement. He's 41 but can still kick 55 yarders.

Its kinda eerie you know where a retired kicker lives and how far he can still kick. Mike is that you? I was thinking you might be in a drinking coma or something.

Hopefully Cundiff is fully healthy for the playoffs.
With you on this as I can't trust Graham considering his bad outing for the Bengals in the playoffs. I seem to remember him being reliable until pressure is on. I'll be glad to see Cundiff back when he is fully recovered.

On another note -responding to the last post; It does seem like an extreme amount of long kicks have been made against the Ravens this season. I remember thinking about Scobee, no way he'll knock a third through and he nails it.

The best solution would be for the offense to, you know, score TDs instead of always having to settle for FGs!!! :P
