Jason La Canfora Sees Norv Headed To Baltimore

295 posts in this topic

I was watching NFL Network and they had Jason La Canfora in studio discussing where coaches who are on the hot seat could be headed next year if they were fired by their current teams. Canfora is adamant that Norv Turner could travel to the east coast and take up the duties as our offensive coordinator.

I realize this has been discussed in the past, but I believe this is the first time that a notable analyst has shed some light on our offensive woes and suggested that Norv could be in our future.

My honest opinion is that I would absolutely LOVE for Norv to head to Baltimore. As the gameplan he devised against us showed, he knows how to tailor a gameplan for an opponent. He knows how to play to the strengths of his players. He flat out destroyed our defense. A sight I haven't seen as long as I've been watching this team. It was a humbling experience to say the least.

We have so much talent on the offensive side of the ball, and it has been so frustrating for me as a fan to watch such a talented group of players play FAR BELOW their collective potential. Norv is practically a much more accomplished version of Cam Cameron. He runs the same Air Coryell system, just a more successful variant.

I think Cam's time is up and we need to part ways (a sentiment many Ravens fans share). I am a firm believer Joe has the potential to become that elite passer we all want him to be, and I feel that for that to happen Cam needs to go. Norv would be perfect for this organization and I for one hope he finds his way to the Castle.

CAN CAM HIRE NORV

If this happens I will be the happiest I've been since we got to the AFCCG in 08. Unlike Cam, Norv knows how to call plays and build a championship offense.

And these are the quarterbacks he's either been the qb coach for or the OC for:

John Elway (when Elway was still at Stanford), Troy Aikman, Gus Frerotte (who had his best years under Norv), Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Alex Smith (who had one of his best seasons). HC material or not, the guy knows offenses and he knows quarterbacks, unlike Cam Cameron (seriously somebody somewhere show me where Cam, by himself, has ever made a quarterback into anything).

This would be great, but I'll believe it when I see it. It seems the bolts always do enough at the end of the season for Norv to keep his job.

AND, as bad as Cam is, do we fire him after we reach Festivus Maximus? Yes we do!
Hopefully we get there even with the ball and chain we call Cam.

Have no problem with that. Norv is a great play caller and makes the game plan fit the players he has. He would prefer to run the ball (which he can here) and he would want to take shot deeps. He has a lot of expierence in getting the TE position more involved.

Lots of things to like.

On the contrary, I will worry about Cam until there are no games left.

Getting Norv in over Cam would be a dream, it really would.

Turner is one of the few OCs I'd rather have over Cam.

My problem with this board is that they want anyone over Cam, where cam is actually average quality for an OC. But average is frustrating.

I doubt it happens. Norv will be expensive and if he's fired I am sure he could land a head coach job.

Expensive? Norv's experience and offensive pedigree is worth every single penny.

You're forgetting that there's only a couple teams that run the Air Coryell. Just us, SD and Minesolta run his type of system. So it's not a big market.

Only if they got a new QB. The kind of system Cam and Norv run require tall QBs, really Flacco and Rivers are ideal.

Which typically happens when teams look to over haul offensive production right?

I'm not saying its impossible but I doubt turner would be looking for a rebuild mode. He'd probably be looking to compete. We'd be the most likely candidates.

Do coaches' salaries hit the salary cap?

Teams don't want the big name head coach that hasn't won a Super Bowl, they want the big name head coach that HAS won a Super Bowl. Just ask Marty Schottenheimer, who got fired after a 14-2 season and didn't get a single look from any teams in the NFL.

That being said, I'd rather have a trained monkey as our offensive coordinator than Cam Cameron.

Norv would definitely be a step up. I am sure Ozzie knows this. I am also sure Norv would like to join a team with SB potential, like the Ravens.

You really think Ozzie and Biscotti will sign off on a 3 mill Offensive Coordinator? I don't.

Didn't think so and it was a rhetorical question. So why would anyone worry about what it would cost to bring Norv here?

Do you think he would command a HC salary? I'm not sure he would be marketable as a HC.

With number of teams looking for a head coach, yes, I do think he could get it. I think there are potentially 8 teams looking for head coaches.

Hey, I would like Norv as much as the next guy but just don't see it

Is there even really a chance that Norv gets fired by the Chargers? I don't see them firing him... I don't think the 6-game losing streak the team suffered was that much his fault at all. Norv is a good coach, his players just don't always execute.
