Does The Steelers Loss Make Our Loss Any Less Painful?

46 posts in this topic

Let's face it....we got outcoached. Our OL got manhandled and the D looked like little kids playing on a big man's field.

But yes, the Steelers losing does take the sting off it! We handed the division to them and they handed it right back to us. I take back all those depressing, despondent things I said yesterday.

:D

maybe it was a wakeup call for everybody. we are far away from a prefect team.

the loss came at the right time. better that week then in the playoffs.

we got another chance. we better use it this time.

everybody has to play to his full potential. no talking right now!!! just go out and play..

some guys of this team seem to think that they can put the foot off the gas after a good game!!!

No .. doesn't make it any less painful .. in fact, it kind of annoys me a little bit more because we could have gotten separation from pretty much everyone with a win there. What did make it a little better is how weird this weekend was in terms of who won and who lost and how. But not by much.

We got whupped. As a loss it is hard to take. However in the bigger scheme of things it's impossible not to think of the Steelers' loss and not feel much happier about things. That opportunity was golden for them.

Yes and no. It's less painful because we're now pretty much right back where we were before the loss (only with less of a chance at the 1 seed). It still sucks though, because, if we had won, we would've clinched the division with a win over the Browns at home. Now, the Cincy game, on the road, will probably decide the division, and that game scares me.

If Pitt had been in our shoes and played SD Sunday night (and played like they did against SF), they would have been beaten just as badly as we were.

I hope our coaches learn from that embarrassing loss and make the necessary adjustments. Especially in the secondary, Pagano needs to use his 2ndary expertise and right this ship.

It does for me ! Plus they just got embarressed like us. They had golden oppurtunity like us and couldnt do nothing. We're very fortunate

Oh yes. The worst thing about the loss was that we gave up the division title and a 1st round bye. Now we have it back (if we can win out the rest of the season) Misery loves company.

I do not get all the fans saying that this could be our wake up call. This late in the season, aren't we a bit past a wake up call? Shouldn't we be wide awake by now? If we are not awake by week 15 then I guess we may in a coma.

It absoultely does in my mind. The Chargers game itself was inexcusable, but the consequences are no longer as severe.

The Ravens handed the Steelers a gift, but Pittsburgh was kind enough to return the favor. Let us hope that the Ravens take advantage this time.

A little less sting this morning, though I'm with the others in saying we got outcoached and outplayed on Sunday. I'm more than a bit worried about our final game in Cinci because we don't know if the good Ravens or the Pop-Warner Ravens will show up that weekend. Anyway, I guess we know what Jim is giving his brother for Christmas this year. Well done 49'ers.

This brings up a related question: is the excuse-machine going in full production this morning in Pittsburgh? Who caused their loss last night: Refs? power-outages? Ben's boo-boo? Tim Tebow? Polamalu's shampoo got stolen?

Looking ahead to the playoffs, if all the teams stay the same, which I think they will. The Patriots and Ravens have the first two seeds and get first round byes. The Jets would play the Texans at Houston, I think the Texans take care of business. The Steelers play the Broncos, I think Pittsburgh can handle it. The next part is where it gets interesting. Pittsburgh goes to New England and we get the Texans. The Steelers already beat them this year, so they know what to do. And I think it works out good for us as we get to play the rookie quarterback at out house...and we've already beat them this year anyway even with Schaub. Then that leaves you guessed it Ravens-Steelers at our house for the AFC Championship :)

I know I'm looking maybe too far ahead here...but I see losing and getting the number 2 seed, not quite a bad thing here.

To a certain extent because now we still have a chance at a home playoff game if we win our next 2. We have things to fix though and playing at home will help us. We haven't lost at home this year.

I almost snorted tea all over my lap. :)

I'm hoping that Webby and Carr will be healthy and play against Cincy. Having the two of them there would make me feel a bit less apprehensive about that game. The Bengals always play us tough. *smile* It all comes down to the last game of the season and for once, that game isn't against the Steelers. Kinda weird to get used to.

Actually, yeah. We now have the 2nd seed in the AFC. OF COURSE IT MAKES IT LESS PAINFUL!

Less painful, I think so, but no less disappointing. The worst thing about Sunday was that we lost control of the division, and last night we got it back, so there's that. But the performance raised alot of questions about the team, which have not been answered by a Steelers loss.

We got beaten, and badly -- nothing takes the sting away from that, not fully. But it helps that Pittsburgh got embarrassed, too; not to mention giving us an early Christmas present. Having Webb and Carr back will be the biggest storyline of the next two weeks, now that the depth of our secondary has been exposed.

Our secondary got exposed for the first time this season. Norv Turner and Rivers tore our D apart (another reason why I want him as our OC). Pagano's staff now has serious room for improvement and I'm confident they'll correct the issues. I feel like we needed to get beat like that against a top passing attack so we aren't shocked come playoff time.

Jimmy was baptized by fire for sure. I hope Webb heals up alright. Our guys have the talent and ability to play against a team like SD, and now they know what they need to improve to better their chances next time around.

We're lucky the Steeler defense came out almost as uninspired as ours did two nights ago. There will be no further luck or 2nd chances at this, if we don't win the last two games and claim that #2 seed ourselves, we definitely don't deserve it in the first place, and I doubt we even deserve it right now, but we're back in the driver's seat for it, so the team had better take care of business these last two weeks.

Its does make the loss less painful, but its still there festering in my mind. I knew the Chargers were gonna be a tough out and I wouldn't have been surprised had we lost the game to them in "regular" fashion, but the WAY that our defense lost that game was insane. None of us have ever seen anything like that with our defense, not even in the latter half of '07. We can only watch Rivers flank out his back and watch our linebackers vacate the middle of the field for him to attack due to their "man coverage" so many times, I hope Chuck and our guys have all learned their lessons and will be ready to make the proper adjustments next time. On to Cleveland!

It makes me feel much better but I am still disappointed in how we were manhandled in San Diego. That was not a very good sign. The Chargers are exactly the type of team we need to beat and this is a concern.

Still though, we should win out, get a bye, get a home game then in all likelyhood head to New England if they somehow manage to survive their 1st game, which is questionable for them. So, the Ravens just might play the Championship in Baltimore. Pretty sweet!

Gotta win out though!

No it doesn't feel any better.

We got beat down in that game and we have a lot of problems going into the playoffs. We have a kicker missing field goals. A quarterback that turns the ball over every week. Our best corner is hurt. A coach that mismanages the clock in his fourth season. Offense looks horrible against mediocre defenses. Defensive key players ED And Ray showing signs of old age. I would throw Jarrett Johnson in there too.

I agree, Yes it takes the edge off a little, but our last loss was too embarrassing to make me feel that much better. We were exposed and now everyone will be salivating to try and light up our secondary. Remember, the Bengals will probably have AJ Green when we play them on the road and Webb is injured. We did not destroy the Bengals when we beat them in our house without AJ Green and we had a healthy Webb, so my confidence in that win was really shaken with the way we played on Sunday night.

Somewhat, because I know we can still win out and win the division, and we have opponents we know very well. Both teams, especially the Bengals, still scare me, but I believe we can get the job done. The game that will stay with me for the rest of the season, though, is Jacksonville. Tennessee and Kenny Britt just killed us. Seattle was a west coast trip that was just bizarre and we almost pulled it out. This game was against one of the best quarterbacks and best offenses in all of football. But Jacksonville, we got rung up by MJD and a rookie quarterback who's looked terrible in every other game he's played this year. And then NOT to run Rice at all in that game, only to watch San Diego manhandle Jacksonville by running the d*** ball, well, like I said, no matter what happens it will stay with me for the rest of the season and offseason.

Obviously as we still lead the division.

But losing the #1 seed to NE of all teams still really hurts. That team is just like us in terms of how much better they play at home, and are nearly unbeatable there.

No it makes it even more painful. We would have a 1 game lead in the AFC North (we still gotta play Bengals in Cinci w/ AJ Green) and we would be number 1 seed right now.

The Ravens keep saying they have a "playoff mentality" right now where every game matters and I'm not upset that they lost (well I am) But what Irks me is that they seemed lost, unmotivated out there. The look Joe gets when he looks like a Deer in headlights. Empty stares on the sideline by Ed Reed.

Soooo many times have we talked about controlling our own destiny and all but it's other teams snafus that keep us in the top 2.

By virtue of the playoff system, with a #5 seed (Pittsburgh) being better than either the #3 or #4 seed, you are right. That would save us from having to play the Steelers in the Divisional round. However, if New England WINS the divisional round (reguardless of who they play) that all comes back to haunt us because then we have to play the Pats IN Foxboro.

Oh hell yea. I felt a hundred times better after the Steelers blew a chance as well for the #1 seed.

Now we are back in the driver seat towards a first round bye and at least one home game. That loss by the Steelers made it possible. We have been given a second chance. Now we can't screw up.
