The Essence Of Coaching

4 posts in this topic

The Essence of Coaching boils down to four key ingredients as follows:

1 - MOTIVATION (Providing an environment conducive to self motivation)
2 - TEACHING
3 - LEADERSHIP by example
4 - DISCIPLINE

With all due respect, I am not sure the Ravens Coaching Staff, led by John Harbaugh, is doing a great job of coaching. I have observed Ray Lewis doing more coaching on the field than Head Coach John Harbaugh. Is it the same during practices and in the locker room at halftime. "Perfect practice makes perfect after you learn how to play the game." "No growth is stagnation and always loses leadership." Regrettably, I have not seen enough growth on this talented team of under-acievers this year. Granted it takes some luck to win a Super Bowl but "luck is where preparation meets opportunity." "Let's go, Ravens!"
"The cream always rises to the top." The best trait that John Constantine Unitas possessed was his ability to forget about the last play and move on --- the same sports amnesia that all great golfers have. Its the innate ability to forget about one's past mistakes and focus on the task at hand. We can still get to the SB despite our lackluster coaching. The old adage is true --- Offense sells tickets; defense wins games; coaches win championships. Thanks, Brian Billick!!

Whoever is making the same mistakes over and over should be fired whether it is a player or coach. "Fool me once; shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!" That philosophy seems to have helped motivate Jared Gaither to play better.
