4 Reasons Why This Isn't Our Year

Thats what i dont understand.. ray was getting almost 6 yards a carry. At the very least by running the ball we keep rivers off the field and he doesnt score. Game plan was fail and no adjustments.
That's what Cam has to understand, no matter what, got to keep the run as a factor when we fall behind. Sure, we have came from behind on the Cards abandoning the run completely but that's only been one team. Sorry, Flacco is best as a game manager with the potential to put the game on his shoulders sometimes but we can't count on him to do that most of the time, the 4 man rush is his kyptonite ( Cam deserves a lot of the heat on that too )

Here's 3 main reasons the Ravens won't win it this season:

The Super Bowl is on the road.
The Ravens suck on Prime Time
Road games to get to the Super Bowl

Lol I like that first one.

Ill just say one thing- ray rice 10 carries

I was pissed when we didnt give him the ball on the first drive down on their 30
I agree on the first drive Rice was running well then they became pass happy. Although I felt of Lee Evans had comeback and attack. The ball rather than waiting for it to come Weddle wouldn't have had the bat down.
These 2 scoring drives 17-7 before half and 24-7 begin 3rd qtr dramatically affect momentum of game and play calling followed because it was quite clear defense had no answers and the offense needed to respond... Unfortunately they didn't respond.
To begin the game it seemed like both teams would drive at will. Cundiiff blew our first score but we bounced right back to tie the game not sure why we didn't have same success rest of half.

Here are some interesting numbers that I found...
2005 San Diego Chargers 16 16 323 500 64.6 3,576 7.2 24 15 27 223 89.2 21 49 2.3 1 8 5
2004 San Diego Chargers 15 15 262 400 65.5 3,159 7.9 27 7 18 131 104.8 53 85 1.6 2 7 2
2003 San Diego Chargers 11 11 205 356 57.6 2,108 5.9 11 15 21 178 67.5 21 84 4.0 0 5 3
2002 San Diego Chargers 16 16 320 526 60.8 3,284 6.2 17 16 24 180 76.9 38 130 3.4 1 2 0
Can you guess what they are?
If you guessed perennial pro bowler and Superbowl champion QB Drew Brees' numbers before he went to NO, then you're right! Guess who was the OC?

Joe Flacco will always get the blame regardless. With the praise comes the blame. Its the fact of being QB. WRs dropping passes, still falls on Flaccos shoulders. Defense wets the bed and gives up a big lead. Still falls on Flaccos shoulders, offense didnt score enough. Joe throws a bone headed pass which gets tipped at the line for an INT. Fans blame Flacco. If Torrey drops that 2nd pass in the endzone at Pittsburgh, we are busting Joes nuts even more for being one game behind the Steelers after the niners win.

For the igornant fans who think Tyrod needs to start. I dont know about you, but I like seeing the Ravens go the playoffs consistantly every year. And with Tyrod, there is a big uncertainity.

I believe if Ozzie thought Tyrod was better then Flacco, they would do Joe a favor and trade him now. While he still has value. We know Ozzie loves draft picks and there will be at least 5-7 teams in the league that would KILL for a young QB that has a proven track record to get his team to the playoffs
(See Kolb, Cassel, Cutler and Palmer trades for details)

If management believes in Joe, then I believe in Joe for they see him every practice and the team hasnt waivered on their stance.
I will take Joe to head my team any day of the week, because all he does is put W's in the win column and gives the team a ticket to the dance.

So...I had this big long thing for this thread but...I'll just offer this little tidbit to chew on (which I also left in another thread)

I have 5 big reasons why this very well might be our year.

If the season ended to day.....

the Ravens have a 5-0 record vs playoff teams.

You're all wrong! Please don't insult my intelligence. Joe Flacco didn't miss a chip shot field goal that took the wind out of our sails. Joe Flacco is much better than the 14 year journeyman QB who guided us to our 1st SB victory. Joe Flacco threaded the needle through double coverage on his 1st TD pass last night. Joe Flacco wasn't playing Corner Back, was he? Jimmy Smith will be a fine CB in time but it will not happen overnight and he was burned repeatedly last night. The Ravens should have brought in a bona fide CB as soon as Dominque proved he wasn't healthy. The Chargers had something we lacked --- a solid game plan. Their goal was to stop two players and they did it effectively --- they stopped Ray Rice and Terrell Suggs. That was the ball game, folks!!!! When that happens, others on the team need to step up and make plays. Our offense and defense are too dependent on two players. Sad but true. I was totally unimpressed with Lee Evans and Anquan Boldin. Ask yourself this ---- Why was Joe Flacco able to complete passes last year to two "Go To" receivers named Heap and Mason? Could it be that they ran better routes and found seams in the defense/ Who is Joe Flacco's "Go To" receiver this year? Is it a rookie wide receiver, named Smith? As I used to tell my youth football team players, "never assume your teammate will make the tackle; he might not." If it is to be, it is up to me. Those are ten of the shortest but most important words in the English language. Cundiff has no business playing with a left calf injury. Its up to the coaches to know that. Joe's performance last night was lackluster but it wasn't entirely his fault. The Chargers were a desperate team last night and there is nothing more dangerous than a desperate team. Maybe the Ravens organization will wake up and take note of some of their fans' comments. Notwithstanding the above, I still believe we are going Indianapolis. This loss may have been a god send and was definitely a wake up call. Go Ravens!!!
This guy knows what he is talking about. You have no idea what we really have with Flacco. Theres another thread on this bored comparing the numbers of Flacco and Brees over their first 4 seasons with Cam and guess what Flacco's numbers are better. Brees improved dramatically after losing Cam. Rivers improved after dropping Cam. You guys want to see Flacco get to the elite level, drop cam and i promise we will see it. I am not making excuses for when Flacco makes bad decisions because he does, but the problem is Cam does not correct them. Flacco is not confident in this offensive system. This is a breeding ground for mistakes like youre seeing.

I've been silent recently on these forums, but I think now is a good time to talk.

I'm a firm believer that losses are important in building a championship team. This loss to the Chargers was deeply frustrating, but at the same time, very important. Here are some reasons.

1. Checkbacks to Rice won't cut it anymore. Teams are preparing for this, and playoff teams will definitely not leave Ray out in the open field to scramble in the future.
2. Learning experience for Jimmy Smith. There's no better way to develop than to have a quarterback exploit you all day long, so you can study the tape and fix all your mistakes
3. Ray Lewis game time conditioning. We all assumed he would go back to his normal self after a month of inactivity. Ray was flat footed at times, but he won't be in the future.
4. Balancing aggression on defense with poise. Pagano's aggression is great, but Norv Turner outplayed him with all the screen passes. That along with defending huge WRs is one of the biggest weaknesses in the defense. Now we'll adjust and make it better

The list continues. The key isn't the loss, which sucks, but how we will rebound from it. Philip Rivers and the SD offense is the closest we will get to power house offenses like the Pats and the Packers. This is how we improve.

I mean I will say that Flacco didn't have his best game, but realistically those two interceptions were when we were already down by a lot. If anyone is going to get an pass on this game. I think it is the offense. The defense got destroyed. And that worries me. I thought that we could better handle elite qb's but I guess I was very wrong. The secondary was the worst I've seen it and that further proves we need Webb to get healthy and fast.

But I think one major thing needs to be considered. We played a desperate and hot team. The Chargers always play extremely well towards the end of the season and this is one that determined their life. Might be a little early to say that we won't win the Super Bowl.

All I have to say is thank you San Fran. I know you didn't win for us, but I appreciate you beating the Steelers.

You people talk as if we are the only team that isn't perfect. That we are the one team with weaknesses and problems. I realize that is easy to do, because I am guilty of the same, but for just a second, lets be honest with ourselves. Every team, EVERY team going into the playoffs, has as many if not more weaknesses than we do. And strengths. Just because they are the best of the league does not mean we are the weak little brother. We are not some scrub sneaking into the playoffs while everyone's head is turned. We are one of the tough, old, grizzled teams that has battled our way into a position.

The Steelers just lost to the 9ers. Got spanked actually. The unstoppable monster, Green Bay lost to KC. The Pats have a lousy defense. All the teams are missing something, are weak somewhere. All we have to do is exploit their weakness, and try to work around our own.

Guys, I get all the doom and gloom but I have been watching football for 25 years. I am not trying to toot my own horn but just bring some perspective to the game. One thing is that there is no perfection in football and these types of games happen to everyone at some point. It wasn't our day. Throughout the history of the NFL there have been numerous upsets and teams dig deep all the time. Hell, we watched the Ravens do it in 2000. The Giants toppled the Patsies recently. Everyone wanted Eli run out of town then what does he do? He beats Tom frickin Brady. One game does not make a season.

Most of what people said about our suck in San Diego is true but the Ravens are still in the playoffs and will likely win out and get a home game. Think about this, if the Pats lose their home playoff game then Baltimore hosts the Championship! It couldn't play out any better for us. All we gotta do is win out and we can certainly beat the Browns and Bengals.

I am disappointed like everyone else but lets watch our team make a solid run at this thing!

It depends, if we get home field advantage were going to the Super Bowl, but if were 5th seed, its a real stretch to get there, as much as I dont want to say it

4 reasons why we will win

1) Steelers want to give us the division. 2 wins against them and a gift wrap last night
2) We have beaten the Patriots in the playoffs in Foxboro before.
3) Team likes to be underdog.
4) We have beaten a ton of teams with winning records.

Also who honestly thought the Packers were getting into the playoffs and winning the superbowl last year? They seemed mediocre but look what they did. Why cant we?

All these answers would have been different, if you asked this question on Sat. before the Chargers game. It's 1 game gentlemen.
It's not Cam or Joe. Ravens can win the SB this year. I can think of about 9 more that can too. Look at the 10-6 Packers last year.

we said that with the seahawks...

and now...saying it with the chargers? to me..that is unacceptable! all of these "it's just one game" statements have added up to 4 games. can this team bounce back? we'll see the next 2 games won't we?

Good grief, people STILL don't see the common factor in the losses? JOE FLACCO is still making rookie mistakes.

The four real reasons this might not be the Ravens year?

1. He's BLIND. There's just no evidence that this guy can really see what is going on down the field, or even what the defense is planning on doing. I don't care if the play-calling gives him no rhythm at all, some of the throws he misses are ridiculous.

2. He routinely breaks the pocket by stepping into the pass-rush instead of remaining calm and letting the offensive line protect an area like they are supposed to... and not a moving target that has no reason to be moving when the protection is fine.

3. He throws into double/triple coverage... (here comes the people saying that receivers are getting open...) well, let's assume they aren't getting open... that still means that if someone is double or triple covered, that pretty much ANY OTHER RECEIVER is a better option to throw to. And his picks? They aren't Eli Manning type picks where they bounce off receivers hands and up into the air. They look like the is throwing directly at the defender.

4. When he finally does see a receiver, the throw is usually late. Or it's on time, but it's a lob that the receiver has to stop and wait for. OR... it's just severely overthrown or underthrown. NOT TO FLACCO... Ray Rice is NOT 7 feet tall. In fact, I'm pretty sure no running back in the NFL is 7 feet tall.

Again, all this could have been masked this weekend, and everyone would ignore his bad/mediocre play if he did one simple thing is not turning the ball over. But, he couldn't even do that. If you all still can't see it, I'm worried for you.

You really can't tell me that the Steelers have better play calling, can you? And they don't even really have the threat of a run game. Roethlisberger just makes the plays. Sadly, that big oaf is actually smarter than Flacco and actually understands the game. And you can't tell me he has better pass protection either!
Wow im going to have to agree with all of this. I jumped on the Flacco bandwagon because watching the tape he was tough, and threw a nice deep ball. After last night i see a different guy, he overreacts to would be pressure and constantly turns the ball over. In fact i think he has turned the ball over in just about every game this season. Flacco is having a horrible year, and he is officially a game manager this season.

Well LOL @ both of you. Now, some might over praise Flacco I'll give you that. However, if he was all this bad as you two would like to have everyone believe, we would not have made the playoffs every single solitary year since he became our QB. I don't know if you noticed, but our D has not been the immovable object it once used to be over the last 3 years, so don't even use that excuse. Has it been good? Yes. Stifling? Nope. It has improved this season (well, except for a few performances here and there) but it has not been a D that can be lived on.

I guess some people just have either short memories or will just hate on any QB that isn't the type of QB they personally would like to see. We are lucky to have Joe Flacco @ the helm. He isn't a Tom Brady or an Aaron Rodgers. He might never be but you never know. Tom Brady would not survive the AFCN. Period. It is a different breed of QB we need here. Flacco is good for this team. And you don't need stats to prove that or a game here and there.

Playoffs every single solitary year since 2008. What's the common factor there? Flacco took over @ QB.

He's extremely inconsistent this year, but I'm blaming the shortened offseason and the worst OC in the league (in my opinion). I don't know why he's turning the ball over so much and making stupid throws like he did in San Diego. This whole season has just been weird.

Not really. I predicted this regression in Joe when they announced Cam having all that power. No matter what happens this season, Cam has to go or people might as well stop griping because this offense will be just as inconsistent as it has been this season until he's gone.

Ha, you need to make up your mind. You were singing his praises all over this board for two weeks and now he is a game manager again. I am not saying hes great, stinks, can lead us to the SB, is a game manager or needs to be cut here. I just think people need to stick to what they say and not be so "flippy floppy". Its not a good look!!

Okay for all you fake fans with little to no faith. Superbowl winning teams don't have to be perfect. In the NFL anything can happen. Look at the 2010 Green Bay Packers. They had little to NO running game, the MOST injuries in the NFL, their offensive line wasn't stellar by any means, they lost to the Redskins (6-10), the Dolphins (7-9), and the Lions (6-10). Have some faith and support your team and stop BEGGING for people to get fired. Instead of going against the grain, go with it. And stop saying that the loss HURTS you, its not like they lost on purpose. The players hurt too.
